  1. Interlock-Kongwak play in the same league as Kilcunda-Bass. They are the reason I support Melbourne. When I was a kid, they had their own jumpers, darkish green with a red V. When I was about 8, they changed to Melbourne jumpers. As we lived on a dairy farm, we only ever went to local footy matches and followed IK. When I came to Caulfield Grammar as a boarder, I was asked which VFL team I supported. The answer was none but I selected Melbourne because of the colours.
  2. I'm pretty sure that he played for Sandy. It doesn't really matter. Omac just looks like, and plays like, Tmac. He was placed in a key defensive post all game, and impressed. I neglected to mention Harmes. This is the first time I have seen him live and he was very impressive. He takes a nice mark for someone of shorter stature and really has a go. As a local rookie, we have to delist him or upgrade him at the end of the season. I would think we will stick with him.
  3. I travelled to Casey yesterday for my first match of the Scorpion's season. As always, there was a cold breeze blowing pretty much straight down the ground. What was unusual was that the wind was a basic Northerly, as opposed to the normal Sou'Sou'Wester. Tyson was a bit quiet early but really worked into the game. His knee was quite heavily strapped, so whether he comes back in next week will depend on how he pulled up. Terlich was Terlich. Got plenty of the ball but repeatedly butchered it. I didn't realise that Bail was playing until he bobbed up with two goals in the last. Both were snaps, as that is the only time you can ever depend on his goal shooting. ANB was in everything and is coming along nicely. Billy Stretch played on a wing all day and was quite impressive. OMAC is TMAC 2.0. Anyone who saw the young TMAC playing for Sandy would agree. OMAC is a better kick. Jamar was the best big man on the ground, Spencer was not. Michie was serviceable.
  4. 6. vandenBerg 5. Fitzpatrick 4. Pederson 3. N Jones 2. Brayshaw 1. Hogan
  5. Frost fractured his big toe. This type of injury has a major risk of recurrence if not treated correctly. Should there be a recurrence, the risk of the injury becoming chronic is extreme. The club is doing the correct thing in treating this injury very cautiously.
  6. Pederson has crack, and that is what I want every player in my football club to do. By AFL standards he is average, at best, in talent but he had a go.
  7. 6. McDonald 5. Pederson 4. Garlett 3. Grimes 2. N Jones 1. Garland
  8. Cause and effect!! There is no evidence whatsoever that suggests the low carb diet is the problem for our woes. Despite all of the moaning on this forum, we are actually playing better than last season. Whilst I do not therefore claim that this a direct result of the diet, it is certainly not evidence of a problem in the diet.

  10. I don't think they have substitutes in the VFL.

  14. I could hear Dom very well. Robbo was audible, just a bit faint.
  15. It wasn't so much as fitness, more the lack of match practice that showed.
  16. It was not windless, there was a moderate SSW wind blowing all day; those ensconced in the comfort of the grandstand would not be aware of this. I spent the entire day on the outer wing near Goodwin and McCartney, Saty came by on his scooter every now and then. Brayshaw will be a beauty. I wouldn't rush him but it is up to the match committee. Saty has described the bit where McCartney coached him over the fence - Brayshaw had just done very well against the odds and got the ball out of play, directly in front of the two coaches. He was just having what most would consider a well deserved breather when McCartney yelled at him to get to go again and get to his assigned spot for the throw in that was about to take place. Casey held sway for most of the first three quarters, mainly due to poor kicking for goal by Willy. Having said that, Casey's kicking for goal was nothing special, either. In the last quarter, Willy got right on top. This coincided with the majority of the Melbourne players showing that they were seriously short of a gallop. The move of Fitzy into the ruck to the detriment of the defence did not help. Of the Melbourne contingent, most showed that they lacked match practice. Kent was particularly rusty, he was responsible for a couple of missed goals that he would normally slot. vandenBerg looked ok, JKH also. Michie does a lot but does not seem to overly influence the game. This was the first time I had seen Max King in the flesh. He is an interesting player.
  17. The AFL is squeaky clean when compared to bastions of corruption like FIFA and the IOC.
  18. Roos does not give a damn about practice matches. In fact, I think this is the only one that any side he coached has ever won. In his time in Sydney, he went out of his way to lose these sort of matches. That is why we should only really look at the first half, and make pretensions of dismay at the second half. The first half is the way he wants us to play. In the second half, he took off our best midfielder and shuffled the other players around. That is what you do in a practice match, practise!
