  1. That's huge. What a thought eh? Although it's worth considering he had his debut 3 years after he was recruited... I wonder what the record is for least games, or yougest player to take MOTY?
  2. That's a no for me.... too expensive.
  3. My oly concern with that sylv, and I've said this before, is that Judd has already played just under half a career. We could get a potential 300 gamer in our early pick (let's say 250 gamer to be on the safe side), not to mention the hundreds of games left in guys like Davey, Sylvia and co that have been mentioned again and again... Judd, should he come to Melbourne, would have an indelible effect, but will he still be playing good footy when the club finally returns to a threatening place on the ladder? In other words, it's no good recruiting a bona-fide star into your squad if the rest of it isn't up to scratch, as he will have limited time to win a flag... It could take years to recruit a premiership team around him, and years for Bailey to prove himself. Will Judd still be winning games off his own boot? For my part, I look through history and see a lot of high profile trades where a single GREAT player is traded for a number of GOOD players... who in terms of history all amount to next to nothing. Sometimes you look at these stats and wonder what the club who traded the star were thinking. It's clear we need to shake things up, and I reckon Judd is certainly the answer, but while he's an out and out gun, there's still a LARGE element of risk here. What if his shoulders are bung? What if his OP flares up? What if it's revealed he was a great player at WC because of the midfield he played with? Or the coach he played under? Needless to say, it has me worried, but in the end what do we lose? We can't get any worse... actually we can, all we'd have to do is stay the same.
  4. Been following MFC long? How quickly they forget...
  5. The Frawley thing is new to me. I don't like it.
  6. Would only allow BB to make demonland uglier than hes already made it with the garbage he posts. Where did you go to school? He's proven nothing you've said correct. You're just expressing your opinion over and over, no point has been proven one way or the other. The only way either arguement can be proven or disproven is if he IS given the captaincy. If it doesn't got to him, we'll never know. But hey, what would be the point of saying this? I must have written half my posts in opposition to yours, along with everyone else on this site, and yet you STILL cling to your rubbish theories. You, more than any poster, make demonland redundant.
  7. Not really. The ones we should question are the people dumb enough to make a bet that early, not the people who took five minutes to put up a price... I bet they're laughing all the way to the bank!
  8. I've been overseas... didn't they win the pre-season cup as well?
  9. I would have thought at the end of 2 years, when he's 31, or 30 he would be on a year by year thing... unless he kicks 120+ in '08/'09...
  10. Congratulations Juice.... The right call. The first of many.
  11. Right... Do your homework YM... Jaded and I were fighting for this guy with EVERYONE we could get our hands on. There were a dedicated few that could see his quality LONG before he came good this year... you're not the only one who got it right with him.
  12. Simple really.... 3 - Before2Long used to have Homer in the devil outfit that he coloured in red & blue... The best I've seen by a LONG LONG way. 2 - I can't remember who it is, but the motion picture of Hird geting wrecked by wrecker is one of the best too... 1 - Biffinator for changing it to whatever he has, after having that god-awful Elvis impersonator up for so long...
  13. Was just about to say that...
  14. 3 votes: Y_M.... Say what you like, the guy knows what forums are all about. 2 votes: Deanox.... Like the cut of his jib. Well written and easy to read posts. Always take a second longer to think about what he contributes. 1 vote: Rogue. Every so often comes up with a ripper. Also seems to be the only one awake at the same time as me.
  15. Sorry to clutter up the board. I left to go overseas just before he got his first run with the club, and I'm stunned to have heard mutterings in other threads that he's been ok, and that he's a monty to be promoted... I, like many others, had him written off, now it seems he's the rookie with the most... Can someone fill me in on his progress in the last month or so? As a follow up question, where does it leave the likes of our other 3 rookies? Hayes could be retained as it's only his first year, Neaves has been solid for 2 years now in the Sandy seniors, and Hughes has shown glimpses. Thoughts?
  16. The Shermanator goes alright. We need pace and outside ability... not to mention youth.
  17. Look... MFC has only got itself to blame... Hiring a guy at his age with questionable work ethic into a club who's culture is widely considered weak... what did we expect? I for one was thrilled with his 2006, and looking at the glass half full, at least he played a great first year and not the other way around. Had he waited until this year to play well we would have hung onto him longer and been stuck with a has been for another year. Pickett, Brown and Bizzell... these are good/great players who have had their best days in the AFL... This is good news for MFC, (We get room on our list) for us (we now won't have to tear into our footy department for hanging onto them too long) and for these three players who can now retire and rest. Cause for celebration all round the way I see it.
  18. Just wanted to say a belated congratulations, and from the bottom of my heart, a thankyou to these two stoic demons... Some players only get 100-200 cracks at AFL footy and fall short of being named "champions" yet because of their deeds they forge memorable reputations nonetheless... The Biz gave some of the best service we've had in defence this century, particularly early in his career. It's not easy to rank highly in a B&F playing in defence, and Biz did it week in week out, year in year out. His last three years were a disappointment, moreso for him... but his strong service in some pretty dark times should give him a great name in MFC culture. The way he played the game, fearless in the air and at the contest... what more can a player ask for than to be remembered this way? I'm proud to claim him as a demon, moreso than a cat... and I'm glad he clocked up more games with us than with them... Doggy has been the heart and soul of the team for years now. He didn't have much, but he got SO much further than so many, who had so much more talent... and in years when his club was playing finals, he came a hair's breadth from winning a B&F of his own. In my mind he has just about done enough to be put above the players we call "good honest battlers" as he was quite damaging and effective in his heyday. In my mind, it was YEARS ago that these guys earned more respect than they got from fans on here and in other places. It always upsets me to see a former strong player make an all-too-human decline with age, and see his own fans turn on him despite year after year of heroics... And for the record I LOVE that these guys both played some really strong senior footy in their swansong years, just to remind all the nay-sayers that while they were long in the tooth, they still had it in them... Biz, Brownie... Thankyou both... for everything.
  19. I'd definitely take Wells as he is a known entity and would slot in nicely with his pace... But I simply do not think it would be worth trading him for what we'd have to give up. In reality we'd probably have to lose a good player like Bruce, Robbo or someone who could hurt us in the future like Dunn or Bell... and on top of that player I reckon we'd have to lose our pick 1-4... The redeeming factor here is that this is a shallow draft. If we were to take risks trading picks, this year would be the year to do it...
  20. ...Um.... Ok. PLEASE turn your caps lock off? No need to shout
  21. I see... That explains it.
  22. And where the hell have you been? Interesting that you're so happy to have been proven wrong, though I think years into the future we'll remember these first 3 years as a dicey time for a talented player, and there were MANY reasons why things could have gone wrong for him... your call wasn't uneducated, and in all honesty in the long run if you had 20 guys that came through in a similar fashion to Juice, maybe 5 would make it if you're lucky. Gievn his infancy at MFC, we're fortunate to have seen him carve out a spot as he has at all... For my part, I went to the entire pre-season and early season matches for Sandy and was convinced of his talent from VERY early on, having missed his woeful intra-club match early this year. I saw him ONLY at his best... That said, while I think it's proven that we have a player on our hands, I have a feeling peoples' expectations are going to be overblown. I think in the grand scheme of things he could be a handy Nathan Thompson type player in years to come, or maybe a Corey Jones... I'm not sure yet whether he'll become the next Neitz. That's not to say he CAN'T become a champion, just that there's SO much work yet to be done. I hope we don't go from sainting the guy in 2007, to laying into him for every little mis-kick (a la Cam Bruce) in 2010.
  23. As do I. But not enough for me to be on here CONSTANTLY slagging him off like you do. Oh Jesus. The ONE post you fail to mention Kenny and you act holier than thou about mentioning him? What kind of education did you have? Garbage. Even you said he'd played 2... refer Jaded's post... Agreed. However, hard work gets better results more of the time. Talent, experience, ability, physicality... none of these things mean squat without hard work. It's the only variable a player can TRULY control. But hey BB, we'll just say it doesn't always mean you get the best results... therefore... arguement won, right? Rubbish. MANY so-called leaders party harder than they should. The fact he's known for having his head screwed on straight is one of the factors that determines a leadership role. Would Shane Warne have been captain if he wasn't such a peanut? Likewise Fevola? Likewise Schwartz? Brock is ALREADY leading. The proof has been there to see for nearly 12 months now. The only thing lacking is a title, and his off-field demeanour and profile as a role model play a part, however big or small, in that decision. Incorrect. Mclean had the biggest say on the result. Watch some football for a change will you? No. He's one of mine too. Went to school with him. He's a wonderful, wonderful bloke and deserves more respect than he gets on here.... But at least I can see he's had a not-so-great year, considering his class. In fact, with injury considerations, as well as youth, I'd say Bruce's year is on a par with McLean's, maybe slightly ahead. Wrong. When he got dumped by Guerra after getting the 3 votes in the first 3 rounds, he came back some months later and showed little for the remainder of the year. In fact, your golden boy probably did about as much as Brock has this year give or take. Oh, like you haven't? Who on here has said anything but that Brock's output has been diminished somewhat this year? The exception we take is when you come on and gasbag on about him not being a leader. He's had a bad year, just like EVERY footballer in the history of the game. The only sign he may be anything but what we dreamed in years to come is his inability to shake a hard tag. And honestly, I'd take just about any odds that in the next couple of years he'll turn into the type of player that plays EVERY game with a tag (Judd, Cousins, Hird), and that he'll learn to cope. WHAT?!!! Don't backpedal! You said he's definitely not a leader for next year and that you doubt him in the future? Why are we still on this? Why can't you OPEN YOUR EYES!!! I remember Tim from 'Ology and I had a pointed debate about this very topic. In the end we found some common ground that Brock would be a LIKELY captain in a few years, but that he was way too young just yet. I remember I clung to my logic until he said one thing... that everyone would be harping on about Jones for captain in 12 months... and while we aren't quite there yet, his point was well made. The fans on here get VERY excited about our number 5. My point here is, BB, that you come on here, and you don't use logic, you just sling faeces on his reputation without any credible points... and it's not to make yourself sound smarter, or more world/footy wise, or even to bring Brock down. You want to get revenge for all the nastiness aimed at Cam Bruce... You are VERY transparent. You would do better by spending your time gaining some credibility so that when you DO sing a player's praises, posters will read and listen... and not get irate. Worked for Jaded with Belly and Juice... My agenda? I'd like to see MFC have a player that is UNIVERSALLY loved by his fans, a la Buckley/Hird/Judd/Cousins... Except for you there are VERY few people who bring Brock down. Almost none in fact. I'd love to see MFC fans get as excited about Cam as you (though he hasn't QUITE earned it just yet)... but if you can't get excited about more than Brock's "potential" then you're justn plain missing the point of footy...
  24. Why do you keep posting here? Do you like getting up everyone's goat? Surely you don't post because you think anyone's really listening, or taking the slightest bit of heed of your comments... Brock's '04-'06... he was ahead of the pace. Not at the pace of a Judd, for example, but still ahead of the curve somewhat. His '06 got stronger and stronger... He's had one bad year in which he's missed a LOT of game time. The only reason you're slamming him is because you're sick of him being "over-rated" and Cam Bruce being "under-rated." Brock's performances speak for themselves... But no, you keep stripping him back... it's noble work you're doing... Brock has played well for nearly 3 years straight. Note I said "played well," not "played brilliantly." The way he works and carries himself, how he speaks in the media and how hard he goes in for the pill are what put him ahead of his peers... yet you never seem to mention these things? This year? I agree. He HAS had about 2 good performances. Yes... This year has hurt him in terms of reputation and captaincy material. He is STILL ahead of his peers though. Just say what you mean, mate. "Not a captain for next year, that's for sure." That's something anyone can agree on. "Barely a Leader" ???????? Fair Dinkum... Do you know what a leader is? Did David Neitz ever get injured or play a bad one in his youth? Has Neitz played a bad year in his time? Has Neitz played a bad year when a mature footballer? Does Brock go out clubbing 'til all hours? Does he inspire and expect the most from his team-mates? Does he have the physical attributes and skill sets? Stop getting on here and offering up this mindless opinion exposition and say something real... All you're doing is coming on and bitching like an old woman every time Brock has a mis-kick... It's getting old. Take a leaf out of everyone else's book and start (just occassionally) putting the love of your club, and one of it's hardest working players ahead of your own political "demonland" agenda.
  25. You're name's pretty funny under the circumstances. Look mate, no-one's picking a fight with you. Up til now you're the only one to hurl childish abuse at people. Some of the posters here have been at it on this site for over 1000 posts (some more), so it's fair to assume they have a good feel for what's tolerated, and what's frowned upon. Unfortunately, internet forums have ZERO accountability, so it's up to the community as a whole as well as the mods to inform new people of what will help build the site, and what will create open-forum-warfare. When a poster, be they new or old, comes on and brings people's dedication into dispute, what do you expect will happen? And for the record, you're not exactly helping by making wild assumptions that people here are teenagers with their willys in their hands. Your enthusiasm is nothing if not impressive, and underneath Jaded and others' disciplinary tone lies the beating hearts of true demons supporters who can relate to you more than it seems, given the lack of specifics in an internet forum. I don't know if you've read 'land for long, or 'ology for that matter, but every three months or so this exact same thing happens. A new member gets on and makes themselves feel better by swinging a wrecking ball through the threads, and since he shows little regard for the forum's identity and that of it's major posters, he gets ganged up on and ends up leaving either in a huff or with his tail between his legs. For the record, you're not in that boat, but it would be a shame to see such a passionate supporter denied the opportunity to become a member of the "family." God knows we need a few supporters with their fair share of angry pills... So yeah... long story short... welcome, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the finer points of the club, list, coach etc etc... Cheers. Oh yeah... GO DEES!!!
