  1. Ever? Don't know about that. University in 1909 was notoriously fragile.
  2. Those guys must have had so many learnings to do after a display like that.
  3. What is this rubbish? A full forward leading into space and his team mates honouring the lead with precise delivery? Bah, it'll never catch on.
  4. All the dark years have had an effect on Nathan. Too often, his first reaction is to go backwards with the handball instead of forward. He can unlearn this, but it's deeply ingrained.
  5. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/03/finland-home-of-the-103000-speeding-ticket/387484/
  6. I can see the rest of the season unfolding like this: we'll rally sooner or later, go on a mild winning streak, get our hopes up, then the team will falter and just miss finals or stumble in on bad form and go out in straight sets.
  7. The thing about being a longtime MFC supporter is that you can always look at a dismal performance like last night and say to yourself, 'Meh. I've seen worse.'
  8. I found the copy I bought for 40c at a second hand bookshop. Previous owner, young David Roberts of MItcham. It was first published in 1967, and I've scanned some of the classic Rigby illustrations. Different times ...
  9. I had a copy of the original edition of 'The Wild Men of Football' by Jack Dyer, early 1970s. No idea who the ghost writer was, but I read it until it fell apart. Great chapters on the likes of Mopsy Fraser, John Peck, Teddy Whitten but the best chapter of them all was on John Coleman. Extraordinary.
  10. I laughed and laughed over that book. I still have a copy somewhere. Classic bush footy tale.
  11. Great article. Thoughtful, articulate, well reasoned.
  12. Kenny Frencham went on to coach West Brunswick, VAFA D grade, 1979.
  13. Geez I hate seeing a full-time score 44 to 47. It's like it's 1870.
  14. The only PP who comes to mind is Paul Payne.
  15. It'd help if our midfielders kicked more goals themselves. Throws a cat among the pigeons if they storm to fifty and bang it through a few times.
  16. Glenn Swan, 1973. Kicked eight goals in his fifth game but only played thirteen in total. Another coodabeen.
  17. There's some doubt about its continuous status from foundation until today.
  18. Let's just go multi-ball - two footies on the field at the same time.
  19. I'm puzzled by the strange game plan - players lowering their eyes and kicking to a leading forward who goals. Weird.
  20. Two Brownlows don't get Ivor Warne-Smith a mention? It's the cult of recency.
  21. Having a year where we end up with a stunningly positive free kick differential like the Western Bulldogs did on their premiership year.
  22. One way for us to have a better year is for other teams to have a stinker. Any idea on which club could plummet?
