  1. i've been watching that with interest too he basically takes one big step over the centre circle and then uses his big frame to block the oppo ruck's access to the ball and then has a 180 degree drop zone in front of him - it's part of what is helping the swans have such a dominant midfield currently it's smart, but i'm amazed no one has queried whether or not it's allowed; it's not too dissimilar to gawn's arm block approach which was outlawed for a time and then re-allowed
  2. the biggest issue this year is that there's little or no free agents on the market free agents who haven't signed on yet who may interest us somewhat: elliott himmelberg, jarryd lyons, oleg markov, will hoskin-elliott, bailey banfield, matt taberner, patrick voss, brendan parfitt, tyson stengle, alex sexton, levi casboult, sam day, harry perryman, isaac cumming, cameron zurhaar, francis evans, jack graham, josh battle, mason wood, tim membrey, andrew gaff, elliot yeo, jamaine jones, jason johannisen, tim english but, really, there's only five or six who would make our side discernibly better; at least, if the stories are true, we're interested in josh battle so really we're looking at either pre-agents (those coming out of contract next year, like ldu) or alternatively players with long contracts who may have fallen out of favour (grundy v2) if we have cap space to throw around we could look at the likes of josh rachele, darcy parish, luke davies-uniacke, logan mcdonald or - please, for the love of all that is holy, no - rory lobb if we're looking to add depth who may / may not be in our best 22 it's the likes of ryan angwin, those younger players on the edge of selection at their own club that might see a fresh opportunity with us and / or a means to return 'home' to victoria personally i would be very pleased if we could add battle as an unrestricted free agent, ldu as a pre-agent, and angwin as a youngster looking for more opportunity back 'home' in victoria this off-season, but it's going to be tough to achieve
  3. because as a tall defender he's hopeless 1:1 against any size opponent and he has one means of disposing of the ball - kicking it long and as far away from himself as possible i know there's 'tomlinson truthers' on this site but unfortunately if we want to be a good side he won't be in it he's not even as good a defender as sam frost they're both unreliable with and without the ball
  4. You would have thought so but… NO! In truth, bringing in a 4th maggot was about allowing the other 3 to ‘rest’ in game - and I’m not joking; there’s still only three ‘in charge’ at any time and the fourth is effectively removed from play It’s a complete joke
  5. until woey 2.0 can hit a target from 40m under zero pressure i'm not convinced he's going to make as an afl player the amount of times at both afl and vfl level his kicks - particularly when trying to execute the switch - miss the target by some margin is a concern
  6. great goal by bedford in his 50th game interesting that he's tagging - it's not entirely been a success, but he definitely has the pace to go with butters and rozee
  7. these prognostications are impossible to make in 2024 imo the season is just all over the shop, sydney being outstanding aside
  8. finally, a goal! this gw$ vs pear game has been ugly to watch but...a close game is an entertaining game, i guess...
  9. interesting move to try bedford as a tagger on butters didn't work in the first quarter but gw$ starting to win a lot more of the footy this term edit: bedfford rolled onto rozee when butters having a rest
  10. filth are gonna win by 5 goals at this rate
  11. wow north are fun to watch
  12. don't like the way the filth are reducing the margin reckon north will want to by 7 goals to the good at 3/4 time to feel 'safe'
  13. yep as irrelevant as whateley's pontificating
  14. their speed by foot and in terms of ball movement is going to be a really big issue
  15. wow - filth going at 170 pressure rating, kangas at 220 amazing
  16. how even is football at the moment?!?? (bloods need not apply)
  17. he cost us a second rounder think of him as a loaner for a year in 2023
  18. of those currently under contract. darcy parish would be one that i would definitely be keen to have a chat with i can't see the peptides wanting to honour their very long deal with him given that their midfield seems to operate better without him as such, if we can take on the wage and not give up much collateral, it would appear to be a potential win: win
  19. as one of the commentators said today, or a variation on it - "grundy is fantastic when he can work himself into the game throughout the course of play" which is true it's also what sets gawn apart as the best ruckman ever having them together in the same side was just a waste of two incredible talents
  20. 9 kicks; 8 goals 1 amazing amartey
  21. from mum: 8 kicks and 7 goals 1 for amartey
  22. going okay at 67% disposal efficiency; his clangers and turnovers hurt him - 2.4 and 3.1 a game from only 14.2 possessions per game you can't teach speed and skill what i like is that he is capable of punching the kick when moving at top speed - some of his field kicking this year has been elite
  23. michalanney reminds me so much of ben hart (albeit not as good) impressive young player
  24. agreed i'm really curious to see if he can add that inside / outside game to his arsenal, as it is one of the things that sets the likes of dawson and warner apart
