  1. Just arrived home, tired, cranky and fairly emotional. 6. Sylvia 5. Moloney (thought he was the only player in the midfield to show any resistance at all, put his body on the line, and make reasonably sound decisions under immense pressure.) 4. Frawley (for his job on Cloke after he tore Rivers a new one.) After those three, i'm having real difficulty... Ummm... 3. Howe 2. Gawn 1. Scully The last 3 are "encouragement votes". Scully in particular, his disposal was atrocious and he was uncharacteristically fumbly with his ball-handling. Morton did a job on Shaw, but there was a couple of instances, one Leigh Brown mark in particular, where he had to go and just didn't. Not good enough. Hate to take potshots at Jonesy, but god he was ordinary with his decision-making today. Even the kid next to me (wouldn't have been much older than 12) commented on it, he was shuddering everytime Jones went near it.
  2. General Admission Seating Southern Stand M1 rows Q-LL M2 - M5 Q1 - Q15 Ponsford Stand Q31 - Q36 rows U-MM Olympic Stand Q49 - Q56 Q57 rows A-O Full details here: Match Day Info
  3. 6. Jordie McKenzie 5. Jared Rivers 4. Jordie Gysberts 3. Stef Martin 2. Jack Watts 1. Brent Moloney
  4. Add Jordie Gysberts to that group too i reckon
  5. I take it Robbie Campbell didn't play ressies again this week, despite not officially being listed as injured? Played a half of footy about 3 weeks ago and has not be heard of since.
  6. Link to the article at all? Be interested to have a read of that.
  7. Jim was a good (very very good) player, but not neccesarily a very good ruckman if that makes sense (even though that's where he played). Like others have already mentioned, he was a big on-baller who incidentally took the ruck contests. His true value was in his ability to link up and find mountains of the footy. IIRC, he averaged around 26-27 disposals per game in his Brownlow year; huge numbers for a ruckman. Jimmy was my favorite player so i guess my opinion of him as a player is skewed by my bias, but i thought he was a gun. Maybe not the best ruckman of the last 20 years, but a damn good all-round player.
  8. Cheers old dee. Was wondering the same thing about Robbie, would have thought for someone coming off such a limited preparation that playing against Cranbourne in the scratch match would've been an ideal opportunity to get some run in the legs. Perhaps he didn't pull up too well from his first game back?
  9. Pretty sure Junior McDonald played his first year in #53 back in 96 or 97. Just off the top of my head though i can't recall anyone in else in recent times playing in a jumper in the 50's. Highest number i can recall was Jordie McKenzie's #49 in 2009.
  10. Anyone know if Campbell is playing at Casey this weekend?
  11. I've been interested to find out how Robbie Campbell played in the Casey reserves smashing of Cranbourne in the practise match at the weekend, and to my surprise there was no mention of him in Brad Gotch's player review? Did he injure himself last week (played a half in the 2's last week), or was he rested? I'd have thought, for a player like Campbell coming off such a long playoff with no preseason at all, a practise match against a local team would've been a great opportunity to play 3-4 quarters of a fairly low intensity match and get a bit of game time and run in the legs (albeit against soft opposition). Especially with our current ruck situation. Can anyone shed some light on Robbie's apparent non-inclusion at the weekend?
  12. Any word on how Robbie Campbell ran out the game? I know it was against nobody, but i'm hoping his game time % was significantly higher than last week.
  13. Good post, i was thinking of posting the exact same thing but got lazy. If we can get through the next couple with Gawn/Martin, Campbell should be ready by the Bombers game and will give us a huge boost.
  14. Max is listed at 107kg? Dammmnn, bring him in! He certainly doesn't look 107kg, but he's all we have and at 107kg, probably isn't too slight and underdeveloped either.
  15. Agree 100%. We must go in with a genuine ruckman, Gawn is all we have left (no Juice is not a ruckman).
  16. If Martin is not available, i think we have to play Gawn, if only for this week (hoping Martin's ribs are right for the Saints). I know he only played Casey 2's at the weekend, but from Gotch's report sounds like Gawn ran out the four-quarters strongly, and (unfortunately) he is the only other ruck option we have on our list who is match fit. For this weekend, I wouldn't want to be going into this game against the Goldstein/Petrie combo without a genuine ruckman. A Newton/Dunn combo would just be disastrous for us and start us a long way behind the 8-ball. Gawn will at least break even more often, rather than just getting owned in there, if anything, due to his immense height. And it will be good for his development to give him this taste now that an opportunity has opened up, even if it is a bit of a 'Steve Bradbury' case. Robbie played his first game back this week at Casey also in the 2's, kicked a goal and got through a half unscathed. Perhaps a chance for his MFC debut in 3 weeks time, but we wouldn't want to rush him in without a solid preparation. Played a half this week, will likely play closer to 3 quarters next week for Casey one's, full match the week after. If all goes well, Campbell will be playing for us in 3 weeks as the #1 ruck, with Jamar returning a couple of weeks after that. Please football God's, give him (and us) some injury-luck.
  17. Robbie Campbell's next couple of weeks at Casey are going to be pretty important for us in the scheme of things. The Russian's PCL is at this stage a 4-6 week layoff, so he's probably 8 weeks away from getting back to pre-injury 'full flight'; Robbie played his first game back this week at Casey in the 2's, kicked a goal and got through a half unscathed. Brad Gotch's player review: Could Robbie potentially be playing AFL seniors in say, 3 weeks, if he gets through the next 3 VFL games alright? Played a half at Casey ressies this week, will likely play closer to 3 quarters this week in the one's (due to Spencer's ACL and the doubt over Martin). If he can get some continuity in the next few, he'll get the first upgrade you'd think. Liking the look of Nicholson and think he could be a good replacement for Grimes with his speed, toughness and defensive ability.
  18. Any word on how the MFC boys in the ressies went? Namely Robbie Campbell, Max Gawn and Jordie McKenzie. How much game time did they play? Was Campbell moving ok? How did he look, condition-wise.. a bit fat or not too bad? Will he be playing Casey 1sts next week? I noticed Campbell and Jordie in the goals, would be much appreciated if someone who saw the curtain-raiser could share their thoughts on Gawn/Campbell, especially given the dire state of our ruck stocks, and McKenzie's progress with Trenners now out. I find this a bit strange. After Spencer and Fitzy went down, why didnt Stefan Martin ruck out the remainder of the match instead of Tim Mohr?! It was a great opportunity to get a full match in the ruck under his belt against an AFL opponent in Hampson. Obviously the club could not have envisioned Jamar going down, but Stef is (most likely) going to be our #1 ruck for the next 4 weeks, we need him playing there. And regardless of the injuries to Spencer/Jamar, he's been our #2 ruck for all this year, he should at least be playing a good chunk of his matches at Casey in the ruck. I didnt see the game so i could be wrong, but the impression i get from the review was that he didn't do much rucking?

Hate to agree, because i found his performance encouraging for the most part, but yes, his impact was minimal and there were still a few times he had me shaking my head. But, coming from as far back as he is coming from, i'm very happy with his output today. Gives us something to build on and shows that he can compete at AFL level, which i've always doubted. Not in my best 6 on the day, but played his best game for the club, no doubt.
