Couldn't agree more. Smashing Collingwood in a Grand FInal would be as good as it gets for me but losing to them in one would smash me into a million pieces like waterford crystal. The anxiety this would bring on would be extreme, going through that whole week and the nerves in another stratosphere. Honestly I'd prefer all our grand finals from here on against anyone else or GWS or something.

See your point Viper, it's a bit of chicken and egg where if his personality was nurtured well then he could have thrived. He very well could have been brilliant but I do have reservations and personally feel it's a bit simplistic to point to the culture as the sole reason, especially after 9 years at the club. But I absolutely think he would have been a much better player if drafted around now, no question about it.

I'm in two minds about this. Undoubtedly Jack would have been far better off in the current environment as a youngster but I also don't think his lack of success was all down to being in a basket case of a system either. He's a lovely guy, almost to a fault and never quite had that killer instinct of a Nick Riewoldt or JVR that was probably required to make it big in this league. He had absolutely appalling treatment from media, fans and opposition fans. He didn't deserve it and it certainly didn't help his progress but when I look at the other guys who also started in that same cruddy environment eg. Jones, Viney, Tom Mcdonald it's apples and oranges.
