Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
Yeah there's plenty of great new music out there, the landscape has just changed so much. Full LPs don't mean what they used to. Makes you wonder how a Led Zeppelin would fare today. However it is a good feeling when you discover a good new artist.

Worst Ever Draft Decision (& Best)
Toumpas was widely considered one of the very top midfielders in that draft and all experts projected him going at our pick. I don't recall one that had Wines ahead of him, some even had him out of their top 5 picks so our selection was hardly a shock to anyone. The doubting only started when we stunk up the joint and Wines got the RS nomination in literally the first game of 2013, couldn't have scripted it better. I'm all for giving Watts an out for what he came into as long as it applies to others. Let's hope JT strikes gold again.

Nice effort. All for creativity in the MFC fan ranks.

Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
Oh I wasn't taken aback Rjay I welcome the response, I just wanted to hear more about your tastes 🙂. Music is very subjective and that's the best thing about it, my playlist can go from Nine Inch Nails to Reinhardt to Glenn Miller to 13th Floor Elevators in a blink. And Joe's Garage is definitely something on a good sound system, anything Zappa really.

NFL
Didn't get to watch any action yesterday was flat out. I am reading some of the recaps though. Thank you Cowboys for ruining the tipping this week! Seriously a brilliant comeback by the sound of it and from for a defense that isn't highly rated, coming up with 6 straight stops against Philly is very very impressive. The Rams are seemingly the best team in football right now. Not saying they will go all the way but they would top most power rankings currently. Stafford is playing lights out and I will point out that defensive front again as I felt it had been under the radar but surely after Sun night everyone now takes notice. The Raiders and Pete Carroll fired Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator. Didn't even realise he was there to be honest but the numbers say they have the 30th ranked offense in the league right now. The guy never seems to translate to the NFL, to be fair there wasn't much to work with.

2025 Draft Report Card
Yep. The Dons generally have generally pulled the right levers on draft day and impress at the time, they probably had some As in those as well. It doesn't mean anything. Draft gradings are a cheap trick. You do your grades at the time, get the clicks and then everyone forgets about it and reputations are unscathed. Does anyone remember off the top of their head the grades they gave Collingwood in the 2022 draft? Unlikely.

Another reason to hate Flogmantle!

Blake Howes 2026
Yes, wing-half forward said the broken record in the corner... Personally I think missing out on Nairn wouldn't matter, this role is what I saw for Howes initially.

2025 MFC Financial Result
It just seems like a long time to be paying Clarry's contract. Are there other agreements in the league that are this long?

Is there anything better than Soundgarden music on a damn good sound system?

Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom
Thought Brisbane outfit Ball Park Music did a good job supporting Oasis on tour. Give them a go but just don't blame me when 'Please don't move to Melbourne' gets stuck in your head.

Worst Ever Draft Decision (& Best)
I was likely one of the shouter downers Picket. I thought he was bankable as a dynamic goalkicking mid in under 18s. Still shocked at how it all turned out. I will say though that people are never quicker to defend Watts with the line that he would have thrived had he come to a club that wasn't a basketcase. It's rare to hear people say this about Toumpas and the club was even more of a basketcase when he arrived.

Welcome to Demonland: Riley Onley
I think 3 or 4 years ago when strong bodied midfielders were the hot ticket you would have banked him to go in the top 30. You don't need all 22 (sorry 23) to be great kicks as long as there's enough to feed it out to!

Welcome to Demonland: Thomas Matthews
I am liking this pick more and more as the days go by after seeing and reading about him. The dynamic aspect of his game his so impressive. Speed, endurance, leap, ground ball work it's all there. The low centre of gravity could make him pretty menacing, from the limited footage his defensive tackling pressure is great and makes opponents feel like they're in quicksand. These are the picks JT generally excels in.

Training Ground?
Definitely. I think we've all just been really patient and want timelines 😛

Hassa Mann
Couldn't have put it better myself Jack. I was so happy to see Hassa present Xavier with the guernsey. He kind of gets overlooked sometimes as a 'Mr MFC' but shouldn't. He's as Melbourne as anyone and I'd love to opportunity to meet him myself.

Welcome to Demonland: Riley Onley
Great pick! Absolutely stoked. Wasn't sure we'd add to the midfield stocks this year but this is a great surprise late in the proceedings. Clean, clean hands. That's the first thing I think of with him. We talk about players not practicing goalkicking enough these days, I'd be surprised if kids practice the in-close fast hands stuff. The stuff where you get your friend to fire it at you from close range every which way, this guy has it. The size is there, man, I'm nearly as rapt about this one as I was with Taylor!

It definitely helps to have a RB in decent form to keep the run defense honest in that setup. Or really any setup that leans on play-action passing.

Yeah why not!
