One thing we have to do is get rid off the sprint coach Boden Babajkek(spelling wrong but you know who I mean), a few here including me brought to attention the injury history when he was involved with Hawthorn, seems it followed him to the MFC. Sprint coaches are no good at AFL clubs. For Scott West to become Full time we need to find another role for Mark Williams he is actually the midfield coach at the moment.

We will use pick 50, so 1,2,18,34 and 50 plus PSS draft pick 1(it wouldn't supprise me if we us this for Valenti)

Colin Sylvia- Complaints, Congratulations and Comments
drdrake replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
In the first half his running and work rate was enormous. When he gets the footy we look dangerous. The above is correct 1 season doesn't make you a gun but he finally showed why he was No3 pick, he has the ability to be in the top run of midfielders in the competition, we have seen that this year, hopefully he keeps his body right and his mind on the job, he can be an elite midfielder but it is up to him. The best thing for Col, if he gets tagged he can play deep forward or in defence and do it well. -
Guess what in 13 weeks from today we will find out which way the club goes, we all can have an opinion some want a midfielder other a tall forward but we will not know until Thursday 26th Nov. Which ever way the club goes hopefully that player will be a star.
-
It seems certain that Trengove is the second best midfielder, but do we know for certain that Butcher is the best tall, what are the other tall options that people think will go early. I believe we need to get the best tall forward with our second pick, if that is Butcher then we get him.

Wouldn't it be great if we could have next years family day at the bubbledome, with tours through our new training facilities and social club. I'm not sure when it is due to be finished but I assume considering the Storm start playing there in March next year it would be close when we have our family day.

Agree that Bate is starting to show something, but he isn't a key forward, he is a third tall at best and he will be at his best if we can put two other key talls around him. We also need to plan for injuries, say if Watts gets injured which he miss games in the future who then do we have. We need options, we seem to have the defensive options, we have a number of midfielders on our list but our tall forward options are limited. Also from what I see with Bailey, we looks to want to have our second ruck as a tall forward instead of a bench player.
-
When deciding on what player we need you have to look at what players we already have. We have 3 midfielders that we have seen either nothing of or very little in Maric, Blease and Strauss, Jetta will be a midfielder along with Grimes in due course. We pick up Scully and our midfield is starting to look good, our forward line we have Watts and Jurrah as key forwards, we need another one. You will still get a reasonable midfielder with pick 18, any good key forward will be gone. Is Butcher the best key forward in the draft I have no idea, but pick 2 should be for the best key forward in the draft.

Next year at some stage will we be the first club to field a team that has players picked 1,2,3,4,5 Pick 1 Scully, Watts Pick 2 ?2010 Draft pick Pick 3 Sylvia Pick 4 Morton Pick 5 Mclean After that I think we have Chip, Meesen and PJ
-
A left footer that looks good on his right.
-
The best think now is we hold all the draft/Trading aces, we will get pick 1,2,18 and so on plus the most valued pick in terms of trade week pick 1 in the PSD, if Boak or any other player wants to come home and play for us, you take what pick we give you or we get them for nothing in the PSD.

Keeping McDonald doesn't effest how many players we can draft only the rookies. We will have elevate Bruce to Veteran Status to replace Robbo creating 1 spot on our list. The club decided that McDonald as the captian of the club had more to offer the club next year then Robbo and Whelan.
-
3 years away, depending on our future draft picks my team would look something like Martin Frawley Bennell Grimes Garland Strauss Morton Mclean Blease Sylvia Butcher Davey Aussie Watts Jurrah Meesen Scully Jones Maric Bate Moloney Pick 18 2009
-
5 picks sounds right picks 1,2,18,34,50
-
Bartram agree but borderline Bell Agree but wouldn't be supprised if kept Buckley no way PJ can't if we do it leaves us with Martin, Spencer and Jamar, Martin is a better positional player and shouldn't be rucked Mcdonald, Robbo, Whelan only creates 2 spots on our list Newton I believe he is contracted Spencer not on the list still a rookie Wheatley IMO can still offer something Miller only strong body forward we have. For people to believe that Valenti will be on our list next year they are dreaming, this will not happen, I like the way he plays but he will not be a part of our future, I hope another club gets him but he won't be a demon next year.
-
Which ever way the club goes it will improve our team. The hardest thing now is to find 5-7 players to delist, Valenti will not be promoted but Spencer will, if Whelan, Robbo, Mcdonald retire, I think Cam Bruce will be the only player that can be promoted to veteran status, that opens 2 spots on our list and an additional rookie spot, you would expect the club to use picks 1,2,18,34,50 and more than likely PSD pick 1, six new players plus Spencer, 7 spots needed on our senior list. There will be some tough calls made.

We need to address three main areas, quality midfielders, another Key forward and a ruck. With Scully an easy pick at No1, we should pick the best key forward with our next pick this may be Butcher it may not but assuming that pick will be a good player or forward line will be very hard to beat. The tall forward has to be a big body or have the frame put on muscle mass. Watts will be athletic tall forward, we need a pack cruncher to balance our forward line. Aussie Watts Jurrah Bate Pick 3 Sylvia/Davey Add Maric, Petterd, Dunn, Green, Jetta through the rotation plus the unknown of Strauss, Blease and Pick 18. Use pick 18 for a midfielder.
-
Thats 20 players on our injury list, including Rookies and Veterans isn't the list only 44, that means we have 24 fit players, which includes Zomer and Hughes that are none elevated rookies and Bail that has played 1 game of VFL reserves in 4 weeks.

The AFL is stuck, it can't change the rules because so many clubs have benefitted from a PP. Would Hawthorn won the flag last year, would 3 of the top four teams this year be where they are now with out their PP, I would so no and no. The AFL can only change the rule if one year no club is eligible for a pick, it could be this year if Melb win 2 more and Freo one. The AFL doesn't want the focus on this and they would love to get rid of it but they can't because there are clubs that may win a flag this year and the next few that wouldn't be in that position with out the PP hey have received.
-
I agree, today we played with out Sylvia, Mclean, Garland, Aussie, Green, Jamar, Morton, Jurrah which would definately be in our starting 18 and will be for the next 3-6 years(Jamar? but the rest should be). Then we have 4 players that are early draft picks that we haven't seen much of in Maric, Watts, Blease and Strauss, plus we will get at least 2 top 20 picks. One player that I thought was gone was Dunn but watching him at Casey and now with Melb over the past 5 weeks he is improving, his foot skills are good and has a very good goal sense and a bit of dog in him. He will never be a Key forward but as a HFF he may just make it.

Richmond are in trouble, we have a lot of players out 3 injuries and they beat us with a kick after the siren. I want this year over, I hate this feeling.

Everyone has blown the tanking issue out, the AFL is stuck because so many clubs have benefitted from the Priority draft pick. Look at the current top 4, Bulldogs, Collingwood, St Kilda have Priority picks, work your way down the ladder, Carlton, Hawthorn the same. If they get rid of this pick clubs like Melbourne, Fremantle, West Coast, Richmond who for the past two years have been very poor will spend a longer period down the bottom, the draft is designed to ensure this doesn't happen and each club will spend time in the bottom four as well as the top four over a certain period of time. The AFL changed the rule a few years back when Melbourne one year and Collingwood the next had very poor years caused by injury, the year before that they both played finals and in Melb case the next three years after 2003 we played finals. The system is fine clubs that get these picks are usually in dire need for them just like we are now.
-
That Injury list is getting bigger, with 6 weeks to go we have lost Out for the year Meesen, Garland, Bell, Strauss, Blease, Maric, Healey,Green(maybe) Mclean should be put in the paddock until preseason Aussie same as Mclean others Grimes 2-3 weeks Jamar 3-4weeks Watts 2 weeks Wheatley 3 weeks Sylvia 1 week Susp. Thats 15 players unavailable this week and of those 15, 7 would be in our starting 18. 10 players that are or should be out for the year that almost a 25% of our list.
-
The way our players are dropping, by the Fremantle game we will be lucky to have 22 fit players. We are not tanking, we have lost 4 players to injury plus a forward that straight after last weeks game the coach confirmed he didn't adhere to team rules(for the thrid time this year). We bring in the best available and don't forget our VFL team has been playing very well and the players named have all featured in best players over the past 3 weeks. It's a shame this game isn't at the MCG I would love to see these guys play.

Like any good team we need a mix of all types of players and that includes age and experience.
