I'm not to concerned about this Scully situation but I am becoming very angry at all these Journos and other club supporters having a crack about us tanking and we deserve to loss Scully. Since the inception of the priority pick there have been many clubs who have taken advantage of the system does that mean, Hawthorn deserves to lose Franklin or Collingwood Thomas, Or Carlton on of there many, Bulldogs Cooney, Saint Kilda the Roo. The top eight last year most had Priority picks running around, the grand finalist had priority picks plus a number of early picks running around. You would have a great team if you took all the priority picks away from the past 10 years and gave those players to GWS, to start with you would have 2 unbelievable forwards and a very strong midfield.

I'm not a full bottle on the rules but I think your allowed 6 interchange players and 2 subs per game along with 3 emergencies so we can play up 29 players over the two games
-
Looks like we have named every player that is fit enough to play. My amended team Bartram Garland Strauss MacDonald Rivers Grimes Trengove Sylvia Morton Bate Watts Dunn Green Jurrah Davey Jamar Scully Moloney Maric Bail Bennell Cook Spencer Jetta Sub Martin Howe Emer McNamarra Blease Nicholson

I have some facts, Tom Scully is extremely upset that Jack Watts holds the Demonland record for the longest ever post. He has informed the club that unless he holds this record he will leave the club. Come on do your bit keep posting and we will keep Tom.

Everytime the MFC has a press conference this question will be raised. This is a huge test for our club and how we handle this. The unfortunate thing is we had so much positive hype about our club even with such poor on field performances that this is a big negative going into 2011 even if the rumour is untrue. Until Scully either signs with the MFC or leaves the club we are going to have this dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over the club. Funny how it was mentioned this rumour was started by a North Melbourne person and has gained legs from there. This is one reason I think it is rubbish, North are that [censored] off that the MFC has this great hype based around our potential and the young kids we have. They believe the same hype should be around their club but for some reason their Administration can not create this, the media is not interested in pumping them up, there list is good but no one cares, this is evedent in current Memberships and last years attendance.

Footy is back and Friday night we kick off the Footy for 2011. It can't come quick enough and we all expect a big year for the Demons. For me I think we will line up as below and we will come away winning both games to start 2011. People are bored, Rumours are flying footy is back to give us something real to talk about not what ifs. Bartam Martin Garland Grimes River MacDonald Scully Sylvia Morton Dunn Watts Green Davey Jurrah Spencer Jamar Moloney Trengove Maric Jones Bate Bennell Jetta Strauss Bail McKenzie Gawn

I don't believe he will go but in the unfortunate situation that he does go and the club knows he is going do you keep playing him? The club is still about development, if a player has decided to leave the club we are better of developing other players.

I want to see us quick out of the blocks, we always are playing catch up footy in Adelaide its like we go to a sleepy town and fall asleep until half time. This format doesn't allow you to have a bad quarter we need to be in front of the Crows early if we fall behind they will go into their defensive mode and shut us down. Would love for Bailey to have a few wins through the preseason, his record can be compared to Paul Roos, at least Sydney made up for it in the season proper.
-
It is a great tool to have but the hardest part is when to use it. It is there to two reasons to catch out a zoning defense, put the ball to the last line of the zone and try to get it moving fast to get it behind the zone and the second reason is just to get it out of the defensive 50m arc to try a ease some pressure. The third reason to use it is it may push the defensive zone back that will create more options short. You don't use it every kick in but add it in once or twice a match and if it works use it more.

Watts was OK, he played on Jack Grimes in the first half and is was fairly even. I thought on a couple of occasions he should of been able to use his height against Grimes but Grimes is a spoiling machine, he comes from nowhere and destroys the ball. Would love to see Watts start to take some contested marks or even some good strong overhead grabs.
-
didn't notice, he moved the ball fairly well and quickly
-
Morton moved well, kicked the footy OK, didn't dish out the pannick floating handballs that we have seen over the past few years in fact handballed very well. Looks a lot better on a wing, doesn't read the footy that well as a defender and is always a couple of metres behind his man. On the wing we runs hard into space and is a good option.

I has supprised how tall Strauss was, very good size and he will be OK. On Stef Martin, when players take up AFL late you need to simplify the game for them. Stef IMO needs to play in the last line of defense, he has more upside as a fullback then Warnock and with the new Interchange rules every club will have a resting ruckman in a forward pocket his size is ideal for this.

Just got back, lots of positives but still some players making the same old mistakes. Moloney was nowhere near BOG he continues to be the one trick pony with long kicking and lots of turnovers. We still need to take the first option, when we do this our ball movement looks good when we take on another defender we often turnover the footy. The first quarter was as you expect a lot of eager players chasing the footy, skills were poor, pressure was good. As the players got over the initial 10mins the game opened up a bit and we started to see some good signs. To focus on some of the younger players Spencer was the stand out. His ruck work was very good up against Jamar and his tap work was effective. Took a couple of good marks he looks stong, kicking has improved. Strauss kick a couple of monster Torps from the kick ins he got a little bit of the footy and he has improved his defensive side. Our Rookies looked very good, Evans showed good skills, Lawrence has a good defensive side plus nice Purple boots, Nicholson will play this year. Maric got a lot of the footy but just tried to take on the world he was one that needs to take first option. His disposal was very bad today, his defensive pressure was great. After Half time it seemed to be the best 22 V's the rest, I was very impressed by Jetta he was on the rest side and was clearly the best for them. Bail also played on the Rest side and these two stood out. Very easy to get a kick if you were playing in the best 22, Watts stepped up, he wasn't bad the first half did enough. and Bate had a good first half and bad second half when he had other quality players sharing the forward 50m. Scully, Sylvia, Trengove, Morton all got enough footy and used it well. Our back six is fantastic, Martin was pushed back there in the second half he will get the first crack at Tippett next week.

This was Great viewing. I grow up in WA and played footy a WAFL level, some of the Aboriginal footballers that I played with were amazing and great blokes. I have seen the story of the two guys that missed out so many times, they had all the ability to make it but didn't want to do the work. The AFL with the programs they run is the reason we are starting to see more Aboriginal footballers play at the top level. It is about education, most of the guys I played with were that talented they didn't need to work hard, the AFL is identifying this emense talent and educating them on what is required to make it at AFL level, then it is up to the individual to do the work. The game is better when we can see the likes of Yarren, Jurrah, Davey, Goodes and co, I've been lucky I played with Aboriginal players from the first game I played, I have seen some amazing things done on the field, it is great that we are all starting to see this at the top level on a weekly basis. We still have a long way to go to make sure that every kid is given the opportunity to have a crack at achieving their dreams be it playing sport or a profession.

I've done both, moved to the Olympic stand and find it a better spot to watch the footy. The facilities are very good, if you enjoy a drink you get a better veiw of the game from the Bar that is right behind your seats. Plus the big bonus is the Trident members sit next to the President Lunch guests, and the lunch is next to the bar, you often see a lot of current and ex players and officials.

Starting to sound like the West Coast Eagles of a few years back, the issues are becoming regular. The saints bubble has burst you can't keep getting this bad publicity. We saw Judd leave the Eagles, it won't be the Roo but if I was GWS I would be hitting Nicky Del and Lenny hard at the moment.
-
If it is sold out what great news for the club. Reserve seat Memberships is where the club makes good money. I read last year that our reserve seat sales had gone through the roof. You don't lose out with either Trident or Redleg both are good packages.

I would love to see the midfield match ups young guns V mature players, first centre bounce Jamar, Sylvia, Jones, Moloney against Spencer, Scully, Trengove and McKenzie The mature players might have the upside at stopages but the young guns will work them hard around the ground.

NAB Cup would many Demon fans go to Adelaide?
drdrake replied to kallioota's topic in Melbourne Demons
besides finals there is nothing better then travelling interstate to watch your team. I love going to Subiaco when we play, it is a good atmosphere. I am looking forward to the West Coast game this year. I will have easter in Perth and stay on for the Thursday night game. -
Assuming all are fit my team would line up Bartram Frawley Garland Grimes Rivers MacDonald Scully Moloney Morton(Goodes Tag) Dunn Watts Green Campbell Jurrah Davey Jamar Sylvia Jones Mckenzie Trengove Bennell Petterd I would love to see Davey closer to goal this year we are starting to build a good midfield, I would rather see him form the second midfield and spend time as that quick small forward. Our second midfield is strong, you will run Davey, Green, Trengove, Mckenzie, Bennell and Campbell as the ruckman.

Looks like it will follow our 2010 season slow start and hopefully will come good

High tower if a book maker put those odds out I would have money on it. Not enough money that it hurts but enough that will give me a good return. A couple of hundred at 125/1 if it gets up it will put 25K in my back pocket if it doesn't I lose $200 no big deal.
-
If a bookie gave me 125/1 or 70/1 that the we will finish higher then the Dogs, North and Saints I would put a couple of hundred on not a lot but it doesn't need to be at those odds, IMO our list is a lot more advanced than some think, we have players that will be 3-4 years in the system that are very very good footballers. The dogs have just beaten us the past two years we will touch them up next year, the Saints we should of won two years ago but Scully and Trengove were on offer last year we tried to play their game plan not ours and north we play Jones on Harvey even when he goes forward that says it all.
