  1. What an awful thread. Mods should delete it.

Lucas was a great player for Essendon, and one of the best in the AFL in his prime. He has a premiership medalion, which is more than anyone on our list has. He was AA as a CHB, and probably should have been AA as a CHF in 2006 or 2007. He continually performed in big games and was a key part of the Dons success. I would have loved for him to have played for Melbourne. If he had we would have probably won a flag in our 2004-2006 finals stint.

Why would you start a thread disrespecting someone who has had a great career? Poor form!

Well Said Travis, Some people certainly lack style.

  2. Id rather robbo than lucas.

Neita and Gaza way ahead of them two.

What a Ridiculous Statement. Scotty Lucas performed very well in front of big crowds (Huge) during the season & in September.

Remember that game in Perth maybe 2 years ago-kicked 8 in a last Quarter as i remember.

Scott Lucas was a class act alright.

  3. Oh please. You're upset about us losing to a team that had previously lost one match in the entire season? They were one of the best teams of the modern era. We were clearly the second best team that year.

Course i am upset. We Lost the Grand Final, that's what it's all about.

We didn't even make the Finals the next year which in some ways was even sadder.

I was Pi$$ed off at that, & i hope all demon supporters were.

  4. Full interview on KB's show:

    http://www.sportsentral.com/pro/main/Podcasts.aspx

    - Trying Martin in the foward line. Also may give Garland a go.

    - Morton is now 192cm. Has put on 2 Kilos. Needs to put on another 2-3 kilos next year

    - Has seen Scully play and footage of half a dozen others including Rohan, and Griffiths.

    - Trying Bate on a wing and midfield because he has such a penetrating kick into the forward 50.

    - 4 or 5 new players to be drafted

-Having less rotations in the midfield to allow players to stay on the field and in different positions up forward or on a back flank.

Idiots Like Mike Sheahan, Mark Fine Andy Maher Mark Robinson etc etc call these Tactics Cheating (Tanking) I call them common sense information for 2010 & onwards.

The Football Dept will know our list so well by next year.

Remember Sheeds was never Scared to throw his troops around the ground

He had a little bit of success in his time.

    Go Dean Bailey-Stand your Ground.

  5. We played them in Round 10 on the GC but its surprising they had not played at the G this year. However they are not pack of GC first years and I cant see that issue causing them to fall over.

Unless Noah has to build an Ark I cant see the weather helping us.

We are talking St Kilda and not Freo.

My mistake, forgot about the Gold Coast Match, I was at a party that night & Saw or Heard nothing of it till next day.

After Round 22 We should organize a Demonland Drink Fest so we can all chill out! (Maybe Draft day at the St.Kilda Bowling Club)....

  6. Following his retirement Essendon coach Matthew Knights anointed Scott Lucas as not only a great of the Essendon Football Club. Personally I hate Essendon and found Lucas to be possibly the most overrated and annoying players ever to don a jumper.

    I hate Essendon!

    Please discuss their arrogance

I would have loved Scott lucas on our forward line. I Hate Essendon Loads, But i always felt Lucas was not given his true Respect.

He Played the game fair unlike some of his team mates.

  7. Oops. Sorry. :(

Even so I dont know why you wouldn't play them. Our best is still below St Kilda's worst by a distance.

You are probably right, but as we haven't played st.kilda this year, & they haven"t played at the G at all, which is a disgrace in itself.

For this reason it could be a loose cannon result. Maybe i am being to paranoid but we are so close to achieving the long term goals of this year, i don't want to give any chances,

The weather could play a factor as well!!

We are talking St.kilda remember-They are in unknown Territory themselves!

  8. Given each player has played 10 years or more how could you leave one player out and the other player in. You are trying to micromanage the irrelevant with no plausible impact on the outcome.

You forget Carlton will be looking to win for a top 4 spot regardless of MFC effort.

We dont tag Judd, Stevens, Murphy anf Gibbs and give Fev room to move.

Its definitely manageable so long as Carlton turns up on the day.

Ime not Talking about the carlton game at all. Round 22 at the MCG RR is where i have a little concern.

And where did isay i would play one but not the others?? I wouldn't play all three & give them a lap of Honour is what i would do,

  9. Im not savvy that much regarding Richmond...but is Gale going home ( to them ) a bit like Jimma taking control of the Dees ? Is he able to impart sufficient confidence in any incumbant to allay those nagging doubts of a wannabe ( but cagey ) coach ?

Many people have gone home to Richmond in the last 27 Years only to be spat out not long after, so with Benny Gale returning i can only say Time will tell.

Benny is a Top Bloke, who years ago lived not far from me so i had a few coffees & Beers with him around the time he retired as a player.

Always entertaining to watch the Tigers from afar

  10. It's not like we have so many fit players that we can't fit 'the kids' in if we play Wheels, Wheatley and Robertson.

I highly doubt Wheatley will be fit though.

It seems you're changing tack - in your earlier posts in this thread it was all about letting go of sentiment.

Not at all, i would not play the 3 of them myself. But if they are played in that last game I could invisage a big effort from the team that's all.

Which would be most detrimental to our immediate future.

  11. I'm surprised they even have applicants to interview. No, I don't really mean that....haha.

Fair dinkum, I know some would argue, "And you can talk!" But how would you be growing up in a Tigers family as kids. Since '83/'84 onwards. Looking at their list now: - Richo, Pettifer, Schultz, Brown, Coghlan, Simmonds, Polak, to name just a few that they will have to clear out or replace in the next year or two. Not exactly easy with GC and WS on the horizon and compromised drafts. They're a loong way from a chance at success. Still.

Something(s) happened at Richmond after 82, somewhat similiar to ourselves in '64, the difference being i don't think we had nearly as much in fighting.

I have no doubt we bottomed out just in time, as long as these last 2 weeks go to plan.

Richmond shall be a barren place for at least another decade, which is why they could become the Tasmanian Tigers sometime down the Track.

It shall be interesting to see how many members the Tigers pull next year, many supporters i think have had a gutfull.

It will be a tough decision for Hardwick, Not many have coached again after leaving the Richmond Train wreck. Personally i wouldn't touch it.

  12. Make sure you know why we lost. ;)

Look I have seen too many upsets to take this for granted. However I do recognise there are differences in the 2007 situation.

But I would be sure we wont tag the best 4 in the Carlton midfield and we wont double team Fev.

I wont be happy until Round 22 finishes.

Your nervousness is shared...but for different reasons.

I was there in 2007 & saw Trapper Run Free, Yes the circumstances are different, But i am sure Wrecker Wheats & Robbo have a lot of respect from their team mates, so i am just very concerned that we may get one of those games where the Demons look a million Dollars in one afternoon.

Save That Form for next year, is what i am hoping.

  13. Good Grief. Talk about missing the wood for the trees.

The retirees did not win the game for us. We played a side that was hell bent on losing the game. I think the scenario is much different now

Start investigating issues like no tag on TJ who accumulates 40+ possessions.

What's the odds of an asteroid hitting the earth this year?

Its a different scenario so take a Bex and lie down.

    It isn't.....Thank God :D

Fair Enough RR, But if the Demons win that last game (a long shot i know) i will remind you in this very thread. <_<

  14. Easy there. It would hurt, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Last place still gets us Scully. That's the big one. pick 2 as well is great, but it wouldn't kill us to miss out.

I would be Gutted if Robbo Kicked 6, won the game & then went & played for another Team.

Wouldn't we look stupid, once again....memories of mark riley come flooding back.

If it were up to me i would be ringing the caterers for a testamonial dinner. But thats just me

  15. Unlike a lot of Demonlanders, I'm an Essendon fan (comes from having Essendon supporters in the family), and I was rapt to see them win yesterday. Mainly because they're the most deserving team of those vying for 8th spot. I'd cry if Hawthorn made it, Port Adelaide are a joke and should be in the bottom 4, and Sydney, while valiant, aren't good enough.

It was a gripping match from the accounts of those who were there. To hold off the best team in the comp at a ground at which they haven't lost in 18 months, with no bench and a fully fit 22 opponents, is a remarkable achievement. Full credit to them for doing what no one else can, and I really hope they make the finals (and hopefully beat Carlton).

In related news, this match made it the 4th consecutive week in which a match has been decided with a kick after the siren (Hawthorn-Geelong, Melbourne-Richmond, Essendon-Brisbane, Essendon-St Kilda). That's gotta be a record.

After the 2000 GF ime sorry but i do not hold your enthusiasm for such a team.

Infact they are a club i hope we can inflict a lot of pain & Misery upon over the next 20 years.

They deserve it. (Dean Wallis) The Defence Rests.

  16. some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous...

lets play 3 kids... what kids? who is left? Zomer and Hughes if fit are the only 2 who would possibly be available that haven't worn the red and blue...

People talk about giving Whelan and Wheatley a "soft" game... Surely if Zomer gets a game it is a much "softer" game than one for Whelan or Wheats who have earned about 280 games between them on merit in the past...

Give these players, great servants of the club, the send off they deserve... Even if they're injured, give them a jab, and let them run around aka Adam Simpson...

And what happens if the team are "up" for these retiring servants. And the game is won?? 5 wins puts us right back on our backside for the next 5 years. This whole thing must be managed very carefully,

We were conned in 2007 doing "The right Thing" i do not want that scenario repeated, i am a little concerned that's all.

Sometimes sentiment can backfire badly with only us to blame.

If St.kilda lose they will still finish Top o the ladder.

    Tread carefully Demons

  17. Go Sainters....my No 1 team.

Melbourne has zoomed up the list and is now very firmly my 2nd team because of the Casey connection.

I was riding home the Jordan McMahon kick for a goal as much as any Demon supporter I can tell you.

And in Round 22 we seek a very common outcome.....Go Saints.

This is why we should have our own reserve side. I am not pleased that St.kilda supporters are close by.

Demons & Saints are diametrically opposed.

    Fix it Vlad.!!!!!

  18. Couldn't give a toss what you think about our chances in the finals.

And yeah, you do owe us quite a few. Enjoy it if it happens.

No worries Ash, i will enjoy those moments & they will Happen!!!

And our Home Ground will be a packed house.

You're ok, it's just that i cannot ever get enthused about Essendon!

Your Captain is an actor, You had Far too many snipers in your teams AND...

You allowed the Filth to win the 1990 Flag! So i detest your club!!!

  19. I agree.

And the three kangas supporters I've spoken to today were happy when they got the text.

I'm impressed with this decision too.

He was Part of the 3peat was he not? At least 2. You cannot buy that experience from everybody.

The Tigers have once again been skinned.

Maybe they will move to Tasmania in a few years.

  20. a very BIG part of being selected for such a job is the ability to sell yourself

It is amazing how many average players get the top coaching position

Our own coach Dean Bailey is a perfect example

Without inside knowledge i would think the Kangaroos have made a wise choice

Whats the bet MANY of their fans will not agree with the decison

    Ross Lyon

    Alistair Clarkson

    Sounds familiar

Brad Scott Knows the Game. A very Wise Choice has been made.

  21. Ok, I'll ask the invevitable question:

    Who will you play?

I havent seen enough casey games to make that call 45. I am just not a huge fan of the "Must Have" Send off Game, never have been.

I think the Lap of Honour & a Testimonial Dinner are more suited to retirements.

But if there are no more young kids waiting in the wings then play the old boys for sure.

We are about to embark on our first Serious Tilt at a Flag since '64, i want the club to do what's best for that opportunity.

The Young Players should be Hungry for more over summer. This next Pre Season is Critical to ward making the club strong in all departments.

  22. I think both Valenti and Spencer need to be promoted in order to keep other club's hands off them, since they can't be automatically re-rookied after the two years they have already had.

The first pick in the PSD is always handy. Gives us that extra time to consider it and come up with a secret gem (last two - Jurrah from the outback and Martin from the amateurs, not too shabby!)

Let's not forget also Shane Valenti is ready to go. He has done his VFL time, By Round one 2010 Bails can give him a job and say "Do it" If we delist Valenti then we pick up another kid with potential who is still 2-3 years off playing Reguliar Senior Football.

I Hope he stays. He has Enthusiasm to do the in & under work, & i think he would really value his jumper, as he has had to work so hard for his selection.
