  1. I am just exhausted from losing. I do think we have good youngsters but I am weary that other clubs do to. I see clubs at the foot of the ladder, West Coast, North, Freo having good wins and then there's us. Admittedly these wins accomplish nothing for them other than to establish that they have good youngsters to.

I hope you are all right but finish down the bottom before, get the draft picks and end up back on the bottom without anything to show

Hang in there Mate. This club is going through a complete....Rebuild. Front & Back, inside & out. It takes time, that includes the on field side.

Sadly not enough tough recruitment was done during the ND Days & we are paying that price now.

But I do think we are heading in the right direction, look at those kids playing at casey, lotta potential talent there.

They need to gain experience. That cannot always be rushed.

    Hang in there.

  2. rpfc is right, some posters are oblivious to where our club is and fail to see the big picture. They vent their frustrations after every game and fail to realise the significance of two very early picks and what they mean. No doubt they will be 'beside themselves' in 2010 and Rd 19 2009 forgotten.

In 2 years time Richmond & North will be right out in the cold.

We should be starting our challenge. I got real faith in Bails he is one Smart Cookie.

Scott West Coaching Scully next year, i can wait 3 more weeks.

  3. Some epic hand-wringing going on here.

    Again.

It's like every 4 weeks on here people forget that we are crap and come on here and vent their frustration.

We lost to NM. With 15 players 22 or younger. With two debutants.

It's also pleasing to see some posters on here coming out of the woodwork for the special occasion of a bad loss in a vain attempt to convince the rest of us of the regression they think they see.

    2008 was ground zero.

2009 is an easier pill to swallow with glimpses of what is coming.

    Looking forward to 2010.

Some people these days do not understand patience.

This Club is Being Totally Rebuilt in all areas.

To do it rite takes time...

  4. Freo 17.14.116

    Port 11.7.73

    Ouch.

I would take Picks 1+3 over 1+2 and wooden spoon any day of the week.

We'll probably get thrashed by Freo next week.

This is the perfect year to win the wooden spoon, makes us the big player on draft day.

The Spoon is no longer a big deal.

  5. Fine, I'll relax. I'll just accept that taking poundings is what we do. I could get used to it eventaully. All this time I was letting it get to me, when all I had to do was accept mediocrity. :)

No Don't accept Mediocraty, but this year 2009 was and is all about getting new players & putting more experience into the young kids.

It was always going to be ugly, but at least we have given ourselves a good chance in this last draft.

Unlike Richmond & North who will be right out in the cold within 2 years.

I am expecting wins next year, don't worry. only 3 more weeks of this annus horribilous left.

Just be patient a little longer....

  6. Well sometimes some clubs see things that others dont.No-one wanted Farren Ray but look how good hes gone & also Zac Dawson. They may not give much in return but if we dont want them & can get a 5th or 6th round youngster its still good.Port want a ruckman badly so maybe Johnson for 1 of there young vic kids & also Bells South Australian & his name was talked about last year at Crows & Power

You are assuming that 15 other clubs are dumb with your statement.

Farren Ray always had Talent, he was playing in a team with Similiar style players to himself at the Dogs.

The Melbourne players you put up for trade don't have Ray's Talent in any way.

We would be extremely Lucky to be able to Trade any of our players that we wish to off load, to any club.

We Have been on the Bottom for 3 years. That's because we are no. 16 in the pecking order.

  7. Well, obviously not.

But imagine the incredible kerfuffle that will come about if (when) Hawthorn make the final 8 by percentage over the Bombers or Port after having been gifted this win (due to happen later today)?

The AFL might dodge a bullet here, but I don't think its likely.

This reminds me a little bit of the EPL situation with Westham and .. i think Sheffield United (can't exactly remember?) being relegated.. about 2 years ago

Slightly different because it also invovled Tevez, but point is its a team that is directly suffering due to another team winning a game it should not have save for an unfair advantage

Shows How Strong & well coached The Saints are this year, Good Luck to them

The Label of Tanking towards St.K by the betting agencies yesterday was a disgrace

They have a Tough Finals Campaign ahead & should be allowed to field whoever they wish.

The Football Public driven by SEN have become "Tanking" Paranoid. I find it offensive

Andy Maher will get his Just Reward one day.

I hope the Saints go right thru undefeated now. They were superb Today.

    This Tanking Debate must cease.

  8. Exactly. It won't work because those clubs are already immensly wealthy. It wouldn't have any impact on the final results. Not unless you could put up a $100 million dollar purse to be split... (which will never happen here...)

Pissy little financial incentives will never encourage clubs to give 100% effort 100% of the time..

We need a lottery system to ensure that everyone's pulling their weight imo....

A Lottery System is and always will be a gamble-thus it too cannot be used either.

Which is the precise reason the AFL has not bought it in. If certain Clubs do not get their Tattslotto numbers in the draft, the Following season is as good as Cactus.

    Lottery will not work.

  9. Yeah take away something that could only make teams like ours worse makes sense NOT. Even if their were no priority picks I wouldn't care if we won or lost. It's all about making the finals and all year we haven't been in the hunt so it's all about player developement. 2 of our best 3 players were 20 year olds in Petterd and Grimes. The week before Morton shut down a gun player in Goodes and Jurrah has been an excitement machine since he has come into the side.

As long as youngsters are showing good signs it doesn't matter if we win or lose this year, the priority pick just makes it a bit more of an incentive to lose. When no one is showing anything like from rnds 11 to 13 and we are losing then I would get worried.

If we were in Essendon's position I would be shattered but we aren't. All I want is for our kids to show improvement and for our club to have the best possible chance of recruiting the best possible kids available in the draft and that means losing. I don't have a problem with it and I don't know why people do there is no way to stop perceived tanking unless you want an uneven draft.

Correct. Why are people upset at a system designed to help us? Don't get it.

There is no pleasing some people.....

  10. I think you can have the best of both worlds. If we decided to put up Bell, PJ, Newton, Bartram etc for trade, I think we should aim to give away our 3rd/4th draft pick, with one of these players, for a 1st/2nd round draft pick. This means we improve a draft pick, and also free up a spot on the list.

No one is going to Trade for those players. They are Duds in a bottom side. We have been bagging them all year!! Why would other clubs not feel the same??

  11. Hmm. That's an interesting perspective Dappa. Maybe the AFL likes it as it is simply because it continues to generate interest in matches that would otherwise be absolutely ignored by the AFL community (e.g. Melbourne v Richmond). Maybe they're hoping that this week, because of this tanking talk, people will watch/listen/attend the North v Melbourne match, where otherwise they wouldn't.

Yep this system keeps us all interested and involved each day.

If for example in this years Draft the Melbourne Football Club pulled out 4 dud balls in the lottery. Supporters & maybe even sponsors would walk away next year.

The System we have now aint great, but a lottery is potential disaster

    .

  12. Yeah sure WC, Collingwood and Adelaide will all be killing each other to win an extra $100K

I was talking serious Cash. $100K is nothing!

The league made $760 Mill off the last lot of Broadcast Right, Next years dealings are tipped to be close to a$Bill.

That leaves more than enough cash to Divvy up.

I don't see them doing it but it is the only way to stop Tanking.

A lottery System is still a Gamble no matter how many Balls you have, if a top side got lucky. Bottom side supporters would give up & walk away before a season starts.

  13. The draft system needs to change to stop all this talk about tanking.

Lottery system from BF (and elsewhere):

    16th 8 balls

    15th 7 balls

    14th 6 balls

    13th 5 balls

    12th 4 balls

    11th 3 balls

    10th 2 balls

    9th 1 ball

1 ball from the 36 is drawn for the number 1 pick. Continue until pick 8. If a team that has already been drawn is drawn again that ball is discarded until an undrawn team is drawn. 8th gets pick 9 thru to 1st at pick 16. From the second round onwards just revert back to 16th getting the first pick in the second round.

There is not sufficient incentive to try to finish 15th or 16th over 13th or 14th. The 9th placed team has odds of 36 to 1 of getting the number one pick so you can imagine that it wouldnt happen very often.

    Priority pick:

Retain it but have it always at the start of the second round. There's benefit there e.g. a player like Blease but not enough to tempt a team to deliberately lose.

Nice Idea up until 9th Placed team gets the Number one Draft Pick. Then all HELL will break Loose. Imagine SEN in Melt down! AFL House would Be set on Fire!

Won't Happen (or Shouldn't Happen)! The only way to stop Tanking is to have decent Prize money Increments on each ladder position.

Even then clubs will decide whether to Tank or not

  14. I know that this was bought up a week or so ago but a friend of mine had lunch with some influential Carltank supporters who discussed the fact that Carlton want our Scully and that Fev + ? may be used as trade bait, that there would be a number of clubs in an interchange of draft picks. My friend thought this was interesting as we had discussed the rumour and its relevance after it was mentioned here and decided then that it had no relevance. My fear is that Carlton would stoop to anything to get Scully. Can anyone tell me what the status of Fev's contract is - one year to go - not that that matters I suppose. As long as MFC stays at 16 no one else can get their hands on him. Now this may be the "Crap" that Deeflog is talking about but I thought it was interesting that Carltank supporters are obviously talking about it and these people would not be reading a supporter website.

No No & NO. please do not talk of the prospect of swapping Fev for the no 1 Draft pick! Just Don't.

    Walk Away....

  15. I agree.

I usually sit in the northern stand above where the players interchange and I often watch some of these blokes running on and off. Sometimes they look like they're getting more tired doing that than they do from playing.

That said, Bailey really didn't have much choice last week with 18 or 19 fit men at the end.

I sat Right Behind The Interchange Bench for the 2004 Grand Final. That was Fascinating.

Those Guys were Truly Spent when they came off. I was waiting for someone to drop dead quite seriously, but within 5 minutes Rehydrated they looked fine & out they went again. Never forget it.

  16. Don't I know it. I just won't be able to relax until the last minutes of the Saints game. You know when Melbourne lull you into a false sense of security, only to find SOME way of screwing it up? Doesn' this just feel like that?

EXACTLY!!! Just how i am feeling....Still 4 weeks to go....I must have Booze!

  17. Also on SEN early one morning i herd andy maher say that melbourne are doing the right thing for the club and that they should do what we can to get those pics, as carlton did in 07.

I have heard that too. I have a long memory Mr Maher....

  18. Last Sunday, Melbourne made an extraordinarily low number of interchanges . This may have been partly due to injuries, or perhaps it was designed to help us to lose...... but what happened? We played an in -form side, full of confidence, who we didn't want to beat , and , surprisingly, we played much better than we expected , and bloody nearly beat them!

Perhaps it actually HELPED us to make so few changes! Perhaps our on-field eighteen actually developed some stability. Defenders actually knew who they ere on. Players who scored goals actually stayed on the ground while their confidence was raised!

Perhaps we may have learned something,in addition to the fact that Warnock and Frawley aren't useless up forward. Perhaps we,(and every other side) are making it more difficult than it need be, by making 100 interchanges in a game. Iknow it's perhaps a bit simplistic, but do any other Demonlanders have doubts about the value of multiple interchanges?

    You may have a point.

I Personally Hate seeing a goal kicker leave the Ground straight after a kick.

Would much prefer them to try & kick another one myself.

God only knows how the box keeps up with the rotations & gets them right.

    Tough job no doubt.

  19. That's fair enough WYL, but I think it's worth mentioning that you're in the minority here. The fact the draft order isn't established hasn't stopped everyone else from going nuts posting!

Totally understand Dappa, it's just that in the next 2-3 weeks things could change Drastically. So i am too nervous to talk about potential draftees! Having supported this club for 40 years I have been kicked in the guts too often!!!!

Just a little longer to wait...

  20. Nah hell get a proper send off that he deserves, round 22.

I hope he goes out knowing his played his last game in the red and blue rather than letting him now his services arent welcomed after the seasons over and his had his chance to say farewell.

Love ya robbo will miss ya heaps.

Here Here, i am not a fan of all this Robbo Bashing.

I want Robbo to still be always welcome back at our great club anytime.

When he has taken grabs & kicked Goals i have jumped out of my seat many times, that's what the Footy is all about. He enjoys Playing.

    Love you long time Robbo...........24...........
