  1. And what if our draw has us playing the top 8 teams in those first 12 rounds? We played Colingwood twice in the first 12 rounds this year. He'll be moved on because of a win/loss record that isn't indicative of where he has taken this list.

Bailey could have shown 'improvement' and attempted to beat Sydney, NM, and Richmond in meaningless wins but it would have meant 6 wins in the last 9 rounds and certainly enough of an 'improvement' to warrant a year extension.

But he did the right thing for the club, and for 2010 also by getting players ready early.

And BTW, it is only 1 year. If Bailey is not the man but gets another contract halfway through next year because we have a soft draw at the start of 2010. He will get another 3 years.

Simpletons will think that an extra year right now looks like we are rewarding failure.

I am glad the MFC don't listen to simpletons, or care what the 'greater football public' thinks.

    Give him an extra year.

I didn't say sack him after the QB round, but that is when i would make an assesment of his work.

If our Draw is extra Tough, then that is taken into account

But all our FD need to be on incentive based situations so that maximum effort is given, players & coaches.

I want Bailey-but i want him to excel.

  2. You obviously didn't see Robbo's comments in the Age re comments made on blogs that really do offend players. I think you would be surprised who reads this forum. So maybe we should contain our comments to legitimate arguments and not personal insults. We can all have opinions but keep in mind that some on this forum can be offensive in the extreme and we really don't know who reads what.

Well Said, we are dealing with people here not chattels.

    Be Diplomatic please.

  3. I would have to agree with that statement. Have a couple of Tiger mates that will be reminded of this for a very long time indeed. Just need to get past the saints first. ;)

Oh yeah, once this week is over we should send young Jordie a couple of slabs from "Demonlanders"!!

  4. BTW can people get over the fact that we have the slighest, remotest possibility of beating the Saints? Big woop, we've got Scully, and it's about 1 in a thousand for us to win anyway. THere is a reason they won an odd 19 in a row earlier in the year, you know.

Nah we have been through 3 years of Sheer Hell. Picks 1 & 2 in this last Draft is the only christmas present that will make me smile!

Pick 1 is Fantastic. 1 & 2 is just Totally Sublime!!

  5. Think of it this way BB.

    11 +/- home games.

    10k rent-a-crowd.

    20$ per r-a-c per game

    $ 2,200,000

    ~

    1,000,000,000 - 2,200,000 =

    $997,800,000.00 change

    Edit: x10 years:

    $978,000,000.00

If some of that Money is syphoned back to the Melbourne Clubs I will support it, Because i believe those Figures.

Clean Stadium deals are like a mini Bank!!!

But The Money must help the clubs down here who know longer have A HOME GROUND ADVANTAGE!! A point that i despise....

  6. Agree with 45h16, he would have to have breached team rules and done something drastic to be sacked one would of thought. Someone might just be stirring the pot. Otherwise Hutchy would be all over this like a rash for tonights Footy Classified.

Sad but true..Either Way he is going to cost us money next year, as he won't get a game. Very Expensive Scorps player....

  7. A guy mentioned to the Ox on SEN this afternoon that he had heard Michael Newton had been sacked today...Can anyone verify this rumour?

Yes i heard the same call, it was almost an off the cuff remark.

But i will keep the ears open.

  8. No it isnt ... it hasnt got the underlying infrastructure and culture.. i.e its like building a house on sand... theres no sound footing !!

No sadly that Sound Footing will be AFL Cash Props that may aswell be set on fire,

I was always taught to clean up my own back yard before moving somewhere else.

While there are struggling Clubs here the AFL should sure them up.

  9. Wouldn't they normally extend a coaches contract midway through their last year?

I would think of renewing Bailey's contract after QB next year. After 12 Games the season is either alive or dead.

With incentives for the whole FD to make September action.

Next year is the Last before the new teams, so we must start winning.

  10. People who expect ridiculous improvements in 2010 needs to realise that the natural improvement we're hoping to see because of the likes of Watts, Blease, Strauss, Scully, Trengove (?) etc... is not going to happen overnight. These kids will all be first year players (Watts' 2009 doesn't count as far as I'm concerned), and rarely do first year players dominate.

After Reading Sheeds article on his '93 List i believe we should try & aim for Position 8 next year.

AFL is a young mans game even more now, so if our list is not injured next year, i expect our young list to play hard against other young lists,

& to hopefully out run a few of the older lists.

Footy is a Tough game & it is no good keeping our list in cotton wool for too long.

Those "Baby Demons" may suprise us all next year-I sure hope so anyway.

  11. Great post.

Absolutely agree. I cant understand people's loathing of the AFL's success particularly with TV rights. Its the TV rights thats been underwriting MFC existence.

The next step for the AFL has to Qld/NSW. They have already conquered Tasmania and there is little or any growth there.

And Bub. Canberra is a small backwater (Sorry Graz and DD!) that does not really support AFL sufficiently from the Swans/Roos experiences.

I agree with some of what you say RR, what i strongly object to with this whole scenario is the fact that these 2 teams will be set up to win.

And Foundation Clubs such as the MFC will be in an even more difficult situation to achieve success.

Yes there will be some financial benefits, but if our members become disinterested by the whole thing & walk away in disgust within 10 years, those TV Rights will mean Bugger All.

These new Clubs are like a TV Dinner....Just add Water for instant success.

I don't like it & i hope our club survives long term.

  12. Wouldn't it be great now that pick one is sewn up to send the Saints into a tailspin? OK we miss a priority, but the morale boost would be sensational and it's always good to derail someone else.

And we'd be doing it virutally with a second 22.

Take hold of that idea and we all can go next Sunday and truly barrack for the Dees, knowing the FD won't let it happen anyway. They have been far too professional for that to let it slip now.

And how about that J McKenzie - a real prospect!

I would rather Pick 2 as that may last for 10+ years thanks. I am sick of answering short sided threads, its tedious.

only one more game of pain until 2010 revival starts.

  13. Give me money, coz thats what i want.

The Famous old song the AFL sing every morning.

This is not about a team, this is about making Cash from TV Broadcasts.

I wonder whether the Team will actually exist or whether they will just morph from the PS3 each weekend!.

  14. 19-2. ;)

WYL, relax champ...the Saints will want to ramp up their performance going into the finals. It could well be all over at quarter time.

I was thinking more over the last 114 years actually! I don't trust that club one bit, nor do they!!!

  15. lol you really think we could knock them off??

North Did, & i bet you didn't pick that.

Robbo is going to kick goals on sunday, i just know it.

It's a long shot i know, but i am not celebrating Draft picks till its all over. No. 1 aside, coz thats locked.

  16. As he is/was a Richmond supporter, I wonder what Tom Scully's opinion of Jordan McMahon is?

Had McMahon missed that kick after the siren, Scully would be all but on his way to Punt Road.

    Strange days indeed. :D

But he Didn't Miss so young Tommy will be just down the road from the hapless Tigers!! I am sure Tom will be thankful of that in time.

Careers tend to go Belly up at Tigerland

  17. nah, he's not...cousin...and nevilles mum reccomended that we take him last year and conolly now admits that we "stuffed up"...

i want multiple jettas and grimes' running around, and possibly mortons...

apparantly we are looking at getting another central australia bloke again this year which would be very exciting.

Nah, He made the right decision to play a year in the WAFL. But Geez he is worth looking at now.

Draft week is going to be HUGE!
