  1. I know CC is pretty good, but he's not on the playing list, is he?
  2. RF, while you make some very salient points and your argument re the LG/Primus sponsorships processes are valid, you undo all your good work by this remarkable and unsubstantiated contention above. The main reason we lack a sponsor at present is a thing called the global financial crisis, which, of course, is not the current administration's fault. Secondly, once again we were screwed with the draw and subsequent free to air exposure. I, for one, remain confident this administration will ultimately deliver a marquee sponsor and the announcement will be all about timing. Imagine the announcement of a new captain, with a new sponsor logo appearing on his MFC polo at the press conference????!!!!!! Think about it, the lack of a current sponsor cannot be blamed on Jimmy or Schwaby and the current Board. That contention simply has no merit or basis in fact. Cheers
  3. Agreed. If the HS article, which to me was just a re-hash of one that appeared a couple of weeks before Christmas, when the team was in Mansfield, is on the money and the worst kept secret at the MFC, why would the club hold off on announcing it? I can only think of 3 possible reasons. 1. Junior is not going to be made captain. 2. Co-captains will be announced 3. An additional and bigger announcement will be made at the same time the appointment of a captain is announced. I may be wrong of course, but I hope point 3 is the one.
  4. I agree entirely with what RR has said here. However, the article in yesterday's paper seemed to me to be a regurgitation of similar article that appeared weeks before, while the team was on their training camp in Mansfield. Robbo was quoted as saying everyone admired Junior and he had the respect of all the team, so that if he got the job, it would be a popular decision. The announcement still has not been made (officially), so, while I could understand the short term pragmatism of appointing Junior, I would prefer to wait for the official announcement. It may still be that someone else will get the nod.
  5. Fingers crossed we will get announcements on a possible sponsor and the captaincy at the AGM on the 5th of February.
  6. Of course you are both kidding?................Right????????????? So, this is the first time footballers have sent themselves up? It was a good bit of fun and shows the boys are bonding......in the right and team sense. Geez Louise!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Totally agree. The annual pistols at 10 paces occurs between the MCC and AFL always around this time of the year. The old saying that good news does not sell papers, applies in this case. Guys, we will get wacked again over the coming months, by those who want to tell us we're a basket case, but this will get resolved. As Schwaby said in the same article, in the long term, we will need to seek our own equity and not be so reliant on such relationships. By the way, has anyone seen the poll on who should be MFC captain in the Hun? Asks the question and then gives the only options for answers as yes/no. Very strange http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/poll/1,,661-5037425,00.html
  8. What's the difference between the Richmond Football Club and a Tasmanian? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Nothin. They both will get screwed by cousins.......with apologies to my Tassie mates.
  9. Didn't Van Morrison sing that? Just renewed as a 17 game member and got 2 MCC mates to take out membership.
  10. A Great story our first pick Stuffed Collingwood ! He was to be drafted in the National Draft by the filfth, where he has played a few games but his application to enter the draft was late arriving ! Had to wait till the pre season and Melbourne knew ! Apparently an absolute gun
  11. I am really enjoying reading the various threads on the PSD. Some of you guys clearly have done your reasearch and I believe there is even more to look forward to for the MFC in 2009. But, while reading these threads, I am also listening to SEN. You would reckon that Ben Cousins was the biggest story of the year. Fact is, despite his pedigree, playing record, and ability, he is over 30, has not played for 12 months or more and the Tiges might just have missed out on a young gun. If he stuffs up again - and I hope he doesn't - the cost of that downsize will be huge for the Toigs. I just wish SEN would talk about the others in the draft. There was a draft today, wasn't there? Or was it Ben Cousin's news day only. Give me a break.
  12. A couple of months ago, I received my membership renewal package. The front of the brochure had a mock game day banner at the 'G. Across the banner was "Congratulations, (my full name) on 39 years of membership." I was very impressed and renewed immediately. I too am very impressed with the direction the club seems to be taking, both on and off the field. Hopefully, a potential major sponsor will recognise this and jump on board. Cheers
  13. Because I'm a luddite. I tried to delete the inadvertant second thread but couldn't. Can somone please advise.
  14. Great we got Watts. I just watched some of his highlights on the MFC website. Sure he is lean, but he is the total package. Even to hear him speak on on SEN after being drafted, he is clearly an impressive young man. Some so-called experts predicted Blease would go higher, so it would appear to pick him up at pick 17 is a bit of a coup for the MFC. But I just saw this photo on the MFC website. Who does he remind you of? http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/D...px?newsid=70128
  15. I haven't heard of this guy. What's his background?
  16. Time to move on. The club has made it clear that youth will be their priority. The reports in this mornings' papers clearly quote the club as saying they will stick to the youth policy for the PSD. There apparently is not much to choose from in the PSD, if you believe the papers, so the MFC may even go for a young "project" player. CJ will not be on Melbourne's list in 2009. Cheers
  17. Well.....I am old. I can remember being in the Grey Smith stand in '64
  18. Are you ever wrong RR? I thought I was once, but I found out I made a mistake.
  19. Well.....it's that time of the year, which tends to delay these things. Like the draft, the Christmas break, Chanukah, and.............what is it again? Oh yes, the global financial crisis. Sorry for the use of a metaphor.
  20. RR, I really enjoy your insights and opinion. Clearly you are intelligent and have relevant knowledge........but gee, you don't like a dissenting opinion, do you? Also, while I know you are only trying to bring reality back to various debates on this forum, you really depress me sometimes with your negative views.
  21. I understand an announcement is imminent. We just need the ink to dry on the agreement. I suspect, we will not hear anything until the New Year though.
  22. Haydo, That's good to hear. I could not make last night's function, due to a prior appointment. Was anything else of interest spoken about? Any whispers on a possible major sponsor?
  23. I think the fact that Martin chose to put his name to the email response is a good start. I don't expect a personal dialogue with the man, but an acknowledgement at least lets me know my "idea" was received and if I have any issues in the future, I now know where to go and who to talk to. Credit where credit is due. Cheers
  24. It was also good to get an acknowledgement this morning via eamil from Martin Cox, regarding suggestions sent to the "Ideas" email address. I was a little cheesed off in the past, regarding a lack of acknowledgement from the MFC to correspondence. Well done MC. Cheers
  25. Mate. Volvos are a nice piece of Swedish engineering, but they tend not to inspire. In my case, my wife has told me to leave my wallet at home
