Yes, I heard a bloke being interviewed on SEN today, might be the same guy because he spoke about last years stats too....they have Ablett on 23 and Cooney on 18.
Gary Ablett (Geel) 23
Adam Cooney (WB) 18
Brett Kirk (Syd) 15
Matthew R (Rich) 14
Corey J (Geel) 14
Akermanis (WB) 13
Black S (Bris) 13
Franklin* (Haw) 13
How do you rate these two ruckmen for Melbourne? They have rucked for the Dees in the past two decades. One followed the other, hell they even rucked together back in '98! Have we been lucky? And is it time for the club to select another 10 year ruckman to take the reins through the 2008 National Draft?
Would you think Miller has had a better year than Jones or Wheatley? I know its your opinion, but I consider Jones has had greater influence than Miller.
The pic doesn't make him captain. He's a good average player who has been in a purple patch the last few weeks. But remember, we haven't won a game, so he's not a match winner.
If you want to be part of the team you must put your body on the line. Yze is out because he is not doing this after 269 games. Dunn has less than 40 games, and is still learning his trade. That is why he is selected.
The top 10 draft picks in any given year generally all turn out about as good as each other so to have pick 1 or 2 isn't really a big issue. At this stage the priority pick is pretty likely.
There is a big difference between 1 and 3. And if you want a ruckman ahead of a midfielder, there is a huge difference!
The priority pick will be pick 17. We got Bate and Dunn at 13 and 14 or something like that. The priority pick wont be the be-all.
Guys like J.Frawley won't know if they are getting selected to lose. No-one said that. That is based on what the coaches know - if they can or can't do the job. The players play to win, no doubt about that. But its the coaches and match comittee...
We need a bit of toe and nous in the centre. McDonalds not the answer, but god bless him, he's been a wonderful servant for the club. McLean, Jones, a bit of toe and a competitive tap ruckman who can play as good as Cox for West Coast is what we need.
SQUIBBED: This does not happen in Leigh Matthews teams when he is coaching. You must put your head over the ball. Look at Luke Power did anyone see his game. I wish someone would do that at melbourne. Nathan Jones is the only one I have seen do this time and time again this season. Brock Mclean on occasions.
There is a big difference between having a top 3 pick and having the NUMBER ONE pick !!
Yes we all want the team to be competitve.
Theres a time and place for everything as they say..this is not the time to be winning..its the time for planning and building ! A HUGE difference.
