  1. Cannot believe how many are choosing not to go. It's a HOME game. A bigger crowd helps the club. Pull ya fingers out!

This is a truly impressive grasp of history you have here. It is a tad unkind to Roos, who after all said he was only in the job for three years all along; and it's a tad unkind to G Lyon, who bled for the club many times and was one of the finest captains the club ever had, and truly gave it his all, and yet it's also in so many ways so right.

He bled for the club. He still does. However, he did deliver Neeld to us.
  4. True to a point...they built this group on the back of picks 2 and 5 in a super draft (2004) and pick 1 (2001) that won them Hodge, Ruughie and Lance F...then they made some smart buys. They did in fact bottom out to get those picks and spent a few years bumbling around in the lower reaches in the early naughties while we were playing finals some of the time and they kept those players on the park for a long time. Not arguing about the rightness of a Clarko trained coach however. See my comments re Yze.
  5. I have long wanted him back as a kicking coach but seeing him watching the game so intently last night and the last couple of weeks, pointing out things on the field and dealing directly with AC it seems he is much more than a specialist coach. Looks like he is a genuine number 2. He would be a great addition to our group having worked closely under the angry man but I was told recently by a former player that Ooze was happy at Hawthorn. Still, we can hope.
  6. That was quick. I drove by about 11.30 and there was no-one in sight. Having said that the Pies' oval was also deserted.

Interesting stats. I disagree with those who dismiss them entirely or who rely on them utterly. But this comparison is fascinating. It suggests Martin is the more complete player able to win his own ball as well as finish. Look at the balance between his contested/uncontested possessions, and also disposal efficiency suggesting a player who is where the heat is. Hill however, looks to be the better finisher: different contested:uncontested ratio, fewer disposal errors due to playing a linking role and on the outside. If these criteria were all you were relying on, given our lack of quality finishing, you'd have to go Hill.
  8. Hopefully Hore will be a late in. This is a huge opportunity for our mob to show they can play wet weather football. In the wet it becomes a commitment game. This is not coming as a second half surprise. We all know what it's going to be like. In some senses the wet is a leveller. The game is not as quick although skills still count (gulp!) as Richmond showed last week. Bring the right attitude and we could surprise. Hallelujah! I still believe!
  9. All very well for Caro. She's either in the AFL suites or the MCC Committee dining room. She's never out with the ordinaries.
  10. Pardon my stammer...(don't know what happened there).
  11. A few minutes ago G Lyon on SEN said no way, just to reaffirm Morris' report I guess. Lyon indicated he had some club insight and said it is just not happening. Added that he would be glad to see Alan Richardson with MFC asap.G Lyon on SEN said no way, just to reaffirm Morris' report I guess. 12. You've nailed it Dr G. It's worth remembering some in the pre-game were forecasting an 80-point drubbing. It's disappointing that people on this site are so slow to pick up on the change of style mid-season.
  13. It's lack of respect. They don't rate strugglers and they don't reward them. Dusty has special licence because he won a Brownlow, a rubbish award granted by incompetents. And that Nick Foot, he is a fraud.
  14. Some song and dance, unless you mean a review.
  15. It still surprises me just how ineffectual Tom Scully has proved to be.
  16. Yes but...we beat Essendon the next week post-190...
  17. strangely sensible contribution - sure you're on the right site?
  18. Preuss took multiple contested marks. Worth another go. He clunked 'em. Melksham looked ready. Stretch looked a class above the level but not pacy enough.
  19. We are missing at the moment or have missed for large parts of the year almost the entire finals forward line notably Melksham, also TMac, Weideman, then you have AVB and Hannan.
  20. Don't just say it, show us the difference. FWIW I think our lack of skills is part of the cascading effect which stems from being underdone at season's start, unexpected losses undermining confidence compounded by some players poor form and others' seasons interrupted by injury, resulting in more losses, less confidence and diminishing skills. But I could be wrong. Anyway, I am interested in you elaborating on the above comment.
  21. You can teach football to an athlete. You can't teach athleticism to a footballer. Athleticism is innate.
  22. 22K. At least they lost money on the deal.

Ya think? How much do you know of his history?
  24. Rest assured I have neither inside knowledge nor expertise. What I was getting at was that players were clearly underdone in the opening month and while that may have been unavoidable given the extraordinary number of surgeries, given how the season developed some element of our preparation in the context of those medical issues has left us poorly positioned to compete. Like you, I don't want Misson copping unjustified criticism which is why I reminded posters that his appointment was welcomed and seen at the time as part of the club's growing professionalism.

Having just watched the Adam Goodes documentary I have to ask whether anyone here remembers our response to the bloke. I was personally appalled at the time and I remember when the controversy was at its height was around the QB game. I don't remember our 2014 game against the Swans but I don't think we booed Goodes at all. The documentary clearly shows Hawthorn, Collingwood, West Coast (of course), Richmond and Footscray supporters howling the bloke down, but the only footage of us features the players wearing red, yellow and black wristbands as a mark of solidarity with Goodes. So for those who remember, did we behave well or did we make Eagles of ourselves?
