Mclean rips it out of the pack, quick hands to Grimes, Grimes bursts out of the centre, chips it to Strauss running by who spots Watts on the chest, he plays on, turns right then left, leaves Scarlett in his wake and drills it on the left from 55 You little beauty!! Or more simply, Mclean grabs it, shrugs a tackle hurries the kick toward CHF, WATTTSSS, Massive grab turns takes one step, GGGOOOAAALLLLL! Magnificent, the kids on fire.

I've got a feeling Volvo are about to become our major sponsor with another lined up to take Volvo's place as number 2. Just a hunch. I mean it's only another couple of hundred thousand and we could really help them promote the cars. You could park one outside the members entrance every Saturday, sorry, Sunday and let people entering the ground have a good look at them. With number one pick this Saturday you'd reckon we'd have someone lined up.

With the list of injuries our midfield already carries I can't see us picking Swift, but who knows? Looking forward to this draft being over Watts Schoenmakers Strauss Roughead Redden

I'd take 3 talls and 1 mid and a ruckmen with pick 51, then target mids next year as the talls will need an extra year to develop. Personally I think with the addition of Grimes Maric and Morton are mids can wait. We have no quality big men, not one. Miller's not bad and PJ's ok but after that there's noone. It's talls for mine. Watts Swift Cornelius/Mckernan Roughhead

We don't have to pay it back, but it might be one of the last payments we get from the AFL. As for a sponsor, we'll have one, it's just whether they pay us what a top sponsor should.

The fact is that Gerard Healy could have helped us win a premiership in the late 80's instead he flew off to Sydney and a fat cheque. We then rubbed his grubby face into the MCG turf in the 87 finals. I don't want him to defend us, he's not a Demon's [censored].

If these two can do what the club has employed them to do and they are certainly capable of it, then the salaries we pay them will not be an issue. You have to look longer term with these kind of appointments. Initially the money will have to come from the football department (which is already underfunded). Our salary cap will be around the 90% mark for the next few years. Then as they start to improve the club's operations the money can flow back to the football department. The difference being that this time it will be sustainable growth, not another "last roll of the dice" These appointments need to be applauded.

Over the last 20 years the club has put together some pretty decent sides that have brought me a fair amount of enjoyment. But over this period have we ever cut back our football department as is currebtly being done to invest in the management of the club. Not just the management but also the facilities. Usually we've topped up our footy dept and run totally threadbare operations everywhere else. Are we seeing a concerted effort to build this club from the ground up. I mean we've got our first proper training ground in 20 years, we're hoping to move back to the MCG and we're spending what little money we have getting quality people to run the club. I've run my own business for 8 years and we always invested in front of house stuff and we scraped by. Over the last 2 years we've invested in totally upgrading our back of house facilities and guess what, profit's up 60% and we're supposed to be in a recession. Now we're spending some of this refitting our business to move ahead of the competition. Now I don't run a footy club but the Demons have me very excited about how they seem to be going about the business of running a footy club. We finally seem to be building from the ground up, something I haven't seen us do over the last 20 years. Gotta love them Irish.

All immigrants at citizenship ceremonies in the City of Casey should receive a MFC footy, footy jumper, a footy lesson at the club with their entire family (immediate that is) and a Demon membership. This is one way to get new supporters.

Close your windows and take down your clocks
Roost It replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Stop the presses, President leaves spin at home and talks the truth. Well done Jimmy, you have my full support. People, here's a man who loves the club so much he invests what spare time he has in trying to rebuild it for free. He's a plain talker, not an Eddie Maguire spin merchant, but a normal dude with a big vision for this club. Get off his back and stop talking such dribble. -
Could you share more of the ideas with all pf us

Close your windows and take down your clocks
Roost It replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
The days of Tom Hafey and his ranting outbursts inspiring players is over. The game has moved on from a bunch of amateurs getting revved up by inspired coaches. It now takes many coaches, years of planning, first rate facilities and honesty and insight into where the playing group is at (which is why ND failed) Stynes has not made a mistake in telling us like it is. What this club is after is effort and I'll bet you that is what everyone associated with the club is giving at the moment. Now for the players. Are they good enough to make the finals in 09. NO. Will they be beyond that. YES. This is what he is saying. THE TRUTH. I know it hurts but not as much as mediocrity, because we all know how that feels. Finally things start to look like they're going somewhere and you guys rabbit on about the club telling it like it is. Get over it. -

I know what he said, that we won't play finals in 09. Had he said we will we would have been laughed at. That is what I'm saying. That honesty is not mediocrity. -

Since when is honesty and realism mediocrity. So if Stynes and co came out and said MFC was going to play finals in 09 and the whole football world laughed (at us, out loud) that would make you happy? Fact: Expect pain but expect the teams that beat us to feel some of our pain in every tackle, bump and chase down. They never said the club would accept poor efforts -
Another good decision by the new look MFC. Good decisions so far(for those who still think nothing's changed) 1. Debt Demolition 2. Casey and the Fine tuning of Casey arrangemnent 3. Bubbledome on the way out 4. MFC - MCC relationship 5. Staff appointments 6. Delisting older players, focus on a youth led recovery 7. Honesty - that's right - we won't play finals next year - it's honest and it doesn't mean we're aiming for mediocrity as some seem to think 8. Demon Summit 9. The Demon and it's relevance 10. Carroll delisted 11. Brock made captain (well I hope so) Who ever say's they haven't been busy is not looking

Years ago a friend of mine had Rene Kink to his party, he and some others became lifelong Colligwood fans. I of course maintained the faith. The point being is that if Melbourne play this right and spend the time in schools, community groups and the like. Organise groups to come to training and to games at the G they will get new supporters. A strong presence in a community is the one thing this club has lacked. Things are on the improve and it's not before time. Whilst not dwelling on the past we have been the worst run club for a long while now.
