Miller and Rivers still offer some value to the MFC. Make Miller the 3rd or 4th forward and he'd be pretty dangerous. As our key forward he's never going to make it. He gives his all and with some support he'll make a handy forward, if we keep him. As for Rivers. Surely we'll give him a year(2009) to find his feet, then a full preseason to get back up to speed. If he can remain injury free I'd say a few of you will be eating pie from your face, but hey what's new! I think the club has thus far managed the media and fans expectations for that matter very well, with most reports and opinions being positive. I'm going to back them to make the right call with Bailey.

The club can back Bailey and still wait until the end of next year to resign him. The Cats backed Thompson but didn't resign him until his contract expired. Let the media speculate, they will anyway. This club needs to set it's own course. In saying all of this I'd be more than happy if we resigned Bailey at the end of this year, I just don't think we have to.

2 or 3 more good games for Casey and he'd have to get a game. As we move to the "list management" phase of the season, Jurrah, Strauss, Watts, Newton, Cheney, McNamara, Bail, Jetta, Dunn all need to be getting games. Whelan and Robertson need to be sent to the scrap yard. Bruce, Johnson and JMac need to get ready for life after football and a few injured players need to be sent to surgery. I hope Mclean is one of them otherwise what exactly is wrong? I'm more pumped about seeing Jurrah play than I was about Watts and that's saying something.

Although I'm not far off agreeing with you I think Buckley deserves one more year to prove himself. I count 7 delistings before Buckley so I'd assume he's safe. Yes, he has some weaknesses but he also has some strengths, give the kid a chance.

There's no doubt that this club suffers from a poor culture. Losing is virtually accepted by the club. Many look at Daniher's era as successful and that's fine if just playing finals is enough. Unfortunately the next step hasn't been taken by this club for nigh on 50 years. This and the associated infighting that comes with failure has led to a crumbling of the very fabric that makes up successful clubs. We are on one of our last rolls of the dice, we have to succeed soon or further disintegration will occur. Imagine if in 10 years we haven't finished better than 3rd and only won a handful of finals games, our "stars" are retiring and our list is again in need of rebuild. Jimmy has left, Connolly long gone, Schwab retired, Bailey sacked mid season. Can we really imagine that if this occurs we will have managed to turn this club around off the field, Who will fear us? Who will even care? Don't get me wrong I'm confident we're on the right track but at some point the coach is going to need to stand up and drag this club back from the abyss. Is Bailey the man for the job, Geez, I hope so.

Either way what difference does it make? Let him coach out the year and then as the year draws to a close begin talking to him regarding extending his contract. From all the noises out of the club it seems Bailey will be the coach for awhile yet. No need to rush things. let's say we are 5 and 6, then finish the year 5 and 16. We'll save a few bob on his extension if that happens!! Or we may decide to change coach. I hope not but absolutely no need to rush things at the moment.

It's a fair point Mo but I think the coachind staff are attempting to show players different aspects of the game so they develop as "rounded" players, able to fulfill several rolls. As each gains more experience i think they'll settle down in a regular position. I think Dunn in particular has struggled by being played "out of position" but am hopeful he will learn what it is the coaching staff are teaching him. Only time will tell.

Other than players we need to keep the only tradeable player we have is Mclean and I doubt the club would have the stomach for that.

Well the thread is labelled "Liam Jurrah" All recruiters when doing the research on indigenous players would be factoring in , or wary, about the go- home factor, just as Victorian clubs who draft players from West Australian clubs take it into consideration. Indighenous players have the added cultural differences which make recruiters more careful when selecting them. The high percentage of indigenous players on AFL lists as against society as a whole is competely to do with their sublime talents and has nothing to do with your assertion that a players culture is not factored in to recruiting. The fact that you suggest that a player with Liam's talent would be a 3rd round pick backs up my argument.

So North, in your own words, were wary of recruiting an Indigenous player. Filp, Flop, Flip, Flop. You're too easy.
