Adelaide coaching staff gave Port the game. Sent ALL their players back, except wingers with 40 secs to go. Port had the extras at HB. Adelaide won the clearance and kicked it straight into the Port wall. Ball straight down the Port end, all in 20 secs! Port then kill the ball from the centre bounce, with numbers at the ball and run down the clock. Game over.

The club's financial year finishes on 31 October. Which is only sensible to be able to report in line with the Season in which the club has operated. http://s.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/Melbourne/PDF/171123_2017MFCAnnualReport.pdf Taxation years finish on 30 June. The tax department doesn't care how you report, it only cares about what it is owed at 30 June. The 2 are not tied together, and neither is the point at which the club/AFL records membership.

Melbourne at the tribunal/MRP 2018

And it appears the punch to the stomach is now only a fine, after Steele dropped Max in the last quarter. Initially I thought he had gone down with an injury it was that forceful. Max was furious and at the next ruck contest invited him to stand a little closer....which Steele refused to do. -
Bloody awful game again. 7 clangers and the ones that aren't are kicks to contest. Always turns one way because he can't kick on his right and looks to handball first. Fails to go when needed, especially the nothing effort in the last 30 seconds of the game.

The Game, the Press and the future
george_on_the_outer replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Zones WILL work. We only introduced a centre square to stop too many players crowding the ball at centre bounces. There isn't a problem any more there is there. All we need is a line down the middle and each team has to have a minimum of 6 players on either side...Simples! We have an emergency umpire sitting on the bench all game doing stuff all, who can hopefully count and adjudicate. -
Shepherding the man on the mark
george_on_the_outer replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sheedy and Clarkson have been experts at exploiting the rules. Why?....because the umpires are incompetent more times than not, and fail to enforce the rules as in the rule book. 1.Who cares if you get "pulled up" for shepherding on the mark a couple of times, when you get away with it most of the time. And the only penalty is getting to take the kick again. 2. Who cares when you run over the mark when a player is coming in to kick ( another Hawthorn tactic), because it is rarely if ever called. 3.Who cares if players run into the centre square before the ball is bounced....because it is rarely called. And yet all of these situations were used time and time again yesterday. But as Demon 1858 said above : WHY AREN'T WE DOING IT AS WELL? -
Left behind again - ground upgrades

They got $12M from the Federal government less than 10 years ago to spend, and now they want more? -
Don't get too excited folks.....the Saints have more members than us at 40,323....and that was a week ago.

Look at who kicked our goals on the weekend.... Bugg 4, Kent, Garlett 3, Oliver 2, Hogan, Petracca, Vince, Fritsch, Lewis, Jones 12 from the small crumbers....and you can argue about the remainder. The fact is there are few contested marks taken in the forward line these days, simply because defences are set up to spoil. That is where the value lies....getting hold of the ball when it hits the ground. So kicking it long into the forward line does 2 things. It puts the ball over the top and behind the press. If you try to run it through, you will get caught ala Richmond and Dogs. It then creates the chances for the smalls to gather when the ball hits the ground, as it inevitably does. In other situation e.g. quick turnovers then a one-on-one can arise, so a directed ball is the best option. But that doesn't happen often enough.

I think we could have got caught out when Tarrant withdrew and Daw came in. We weren't worried when Brown was to go into the ruck, because North then have no-one to kick goals, so only 1 ruck required. Thing was Brad Scott was too stupid to use Daw as the back-up ruck and exploit the weakness.

Match preview and team selection - Round 3
george_on_the_outer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
North haven't got a second ruck either, since they didn't select Daw. So they will have to drag one of Waite, Brown or Tarrant into the job....who will we conscript? -
Losing a $3M annual profit from gaming means the capital needed to replace it has to be in the order of $30 - $60M.!! I’m thinking there will have to be an announcement of a new training base for the club paid for by the AFL to just allow us to break even. And then there still remains the question of on going revenue to allow us to support the side financially into the future.

make sure Razor Ray isn't the umpire
-
Rance manned up and made ineffective, Martin played the last quarter in the forward pocket or on the bench, Reiwoldt well held. ......and Adelaide without Crouch, Douglas and an injured Sloane and Talia. Toiyges lucky it was only a 6 goal loss.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 1
george_on_the_outer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
.....after all the previous posts, LT has hit the nail on the head! My guess is Bernie goes to Ablett, leaving Selwood all on his own in the middle. Tyson is no loss as his turnovers will kill against Geelong. He can get away with it against lower sides, who can't hurt on the rebound, but this mob can. Best of all, is that when the likes of Brayshaw have their wisdom teeth out during the week, that we can afford to rest him due to the new found depth on our list. -
Dees or Saints: Who breaks the drought first?
george_on_the_outer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
While no source other than "insiders" at the club are attributed, the article gives some honest insights into the Jack Watts situation. The pity is the article doesn't speak of the gulf of talent at the two clubs. The poor old Saints have no mids other than Ross and Stevens, a couple of second rate rucks, one of whom is injured, and a backline of rejects from other clubs like Carlisle and Brown. Still a good read regardless. -
The seating options aren't great at the Gabba, due to all the reserved areas. We are in section 4 and usually by 1/4 time there are plenty of seats around us...... Deb Willder and the QLD Demons might have a preferred area, so try contact them: [email protected] or their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/QldDemons Deb has already told me they are planning events at the Pineapple Hotel, which is only 250m from the ground. Always a great event, especially if we win. She should be able to give you the lastest update.

Exactly right Ding! Forget the Free agency players who are always expensive, there is far more quality to be had by trading as we did to get Lever. -

How in the hell does closing a car park stop vehicular terrorist attacks when the crowd is inside the stadium? Time to shut down Moomba, the Grand Final parade, the car park at Flemington or even Punt road most mornings since there are too many cars parked on it.
