Not best 22 though.
-
I like him.

Barry Prendegast rivals Mark Neeld for one of the MFC’s greatest ever gifts. Both human wrecking balls.

I love that bloke. My heart is beating true. As an aside, Adem’s niece used to work at the firm where I work (a few years ago now). She was a first class person - very well regarded, both professionally and personally. She was a passionate Demons’ supporter and she said that her entire family was too - they all loved Uncle Adem. It’s brilliant he’s back at the club. I’ve got a good feeling about next year.

Oscar's not in our best 22, but he has been a loyal MFC player and (in my observation, at least) is a quality person. In this context, it's not without a touch of irony that one reads some of the slander here about him, given that: - he is apparently one of the more intellectually gifted players in the AFL; and - outside of football, he has done very well academically and has excellent career prospects. He just also so happened to play 80 plus games for the Melbourne Football Club. That, to me, is a successful person every day of the week. He ought feel very proud of himself, as I'm sure his family does. Good luck to the bloke.

2020 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
It is indeed. Don't write off Collingwood either. It seems they're building a war chest to land someone like Oliver. -
Nice work. Shows he's on board with the club, for now at least.

Even though the last two years have been pretty concerning, I haven’t written TMac off yet. CHB looks to be the most obvious position for him. He simply must regain some agility though - his turning circle this year seemed to resemble that of the Bismarck on or about 26 May 1941. And that isn’t exactly what we need in a KPP.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Ron Burgundy replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Having re-watched his highlights package and having heard him interviewed about joining the Dees, I just do not understand why North let him go. I just don’t get it. He’s a gun. And he strikes me as a quality individual. Brown has the potential to become my favourite player. And quite quickly too. -
Josh Mahoney’s next gig will be as a professional poker card shark in Vegas. He is just so good at trading (upgrading) picks. I give us 9/10. It would’ve been 10/10 (perhaps even higher) had we landed Isaac Smith.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

Just watched the Ben Brown highlights on the official website. Fair dinkum, we have just landed an absolute belter here. Possibly better than Jeremy Cameron. I was a huge fan of the Steven May trade, but this could be even better. We’re top 4 next year. No excuses. I’m in a good mood right now. -

Yep, makes no sense. We seem to be a millennium in front of the other clubs when it comes to trading (upgrading) draft picks. Thanks Josh - I, for one, am very impressed with your great work. And go Benny Brown - I’m bloody pumped you’re a Dee. -
I was playing a game of AFL 9’s in Sydney a few years ago (with my mates - pretty low level stuff). The ball came into the forward line pretty neatly. Arms up. Thought to myself - I’ve got this every day of the week. I’m 188cm. Thinking about the set shot to come. Then, the ball just completely disappears. Without warning. As though a UFO just vaporised it. I look around to see Jason Ball smiling with ball in hand. He’s 201cm. It’s a very unfair advantage.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Ron Burgundy replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Every time I check into Demonland, I’m expecting to see a thread ‘Welcome to Demonland Ben Brown’, and all I see is yet more pages on this thread. We’re starting to run out of sand in the hourglass. That said, Mahoney is proven in this space. I think he knows how to pilot this ship. But I am getting anxious - we really need this bloke next year (and beyond). I don’t know what I’ll do if we don’t land him. Well, I do actually - I’ll drink loads of Scotch. At pace. Sans water and ice. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

C’mon. Let’s bring this ship into port now. -
I’m not sure this entirely fair, or accurate. Paul Roos hardly fits this category and he built a very good team around him during his time at the club. He was also instrumental in designing the process for selecting the next senior coach (his successor), and then actually selecting that coach (Goodwin). That said, I’m not yet convinced about Goodwin. I personally find it weird that I still haven’t worked out what I think of him as a coach (i.e. whether I think he’s a good coach or not). Friends who support other clubs ask me what Goodwin’s like as a coach - and my response is typically, “ ... to be honest, I dunno”. I’m not impressed with aspects I’ve observed about his coaching, such as his game day decisions, his use of players not in the most obvious positions, and his ability (well, failure) to get the list to consistently execute the game plan including fixing the forward line connectivity problems. Against this, the players seem to rate him, he receives a lot of compliments from former players (eg, Lewis, whose opinion I rate), and it seems the club’s hierarchy also rate him. There’s no doubt 2021 is a very big season for him though. I really hope he’s the real deal, but (like many here) I’m still on the fence.

Geelong apparently could’ve had a Guggenheim art gallery, but the Victorian Government wouldn’t agree to give them the requisite tax breaks. That’s vision and leadership for you. Bilbao was essentially an irrelevant and soulless industrial port in Spain prior to the Guggenheim setting up there. It’s now the third most visited city in Spain and is internationally relevant and well known. I have no confidence in any of our leaders. They’re all incredibly basic.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 43 & Future Rd 4 Pick
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have proven ourselves to be ahead of the curve on the points system, and trading draft picks. Any criticism of Mahoney in this regard is Trump-esque. -
I really hope Nev Jetta remains a one club player. I’d be very upset to see him traded, even if his best may be slightly behind him. He’s an important player for us, culturally and in terms of leadership.
-
Dan Hannebery. Their biggest recruit was Brett Ratten. He gets it. I reckon our list is better than theirs.
-
Good on him. I wish him all the best.
-
Serious question - is that what you’ve heard? I rate Mahoney - I’d be disappointed if this is the case.
-
If we can’t trade him, I agree. Then we can have Lever as the third tall where he can focus on intercept marking.
-
Scott Thompson wasn’t a trade we wanted. Neale Daniher and Chris Fagan flew to Adelaide (prior to the trade) to attempt to convince Thompson to stay with the Dees - but they didn’t ultimately convince him to remain at the club. I think we then traded pick 12 to the Cats for Brent Moloney, who played many years for us (including being VC), so it was hardly a bust. In fact, in the circumstances, it was actually the opposite. In my view, the Woewodin trade was one of the worst (it just ruined the club for a whole year and we lost something intangible from it with no commensurate benefit), as was letting Stephen Powell, Darren Jolly, Stef Martin and Jarred Rivers go for nothing (or next to nothing). And probably Brent Moloney too - thanks Mark Neeld. Acquiring that dude was solid gold for the club. Jeff Garlett was the biggest gift we’ve ever received. Thanks Mick. Bernie Vince, Jake Melksham, Michael Hibberd, Stephen May, Daniel Cross and Ed Langdon have been the most astute trades in recent years. Let’s not go into our draft mistakes though - that’s where the real mistakes have been made and the depression really kicks in.
-
Mahoney continues to impress me. He is candid, competent, pragmatic and direct in his communications. I can’t understand some of the criticism he receives here.
