If Richmond have expressed an interest in him, we should go at him like a bull at a gate. While he’s probably not ultimately a Marlon Picket or a Sydney Stack, he certainly possesses some attributes which we need and which could come very cheaply. Given that we’re taking picks 3 and 8 to the draft, and we’ve already landed Langdon and Tomlinson during this trade period, using pick 97ish on a bloke like this seems a no brainer.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Ron Burgundy replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is bloody fantastic. -
Getting May and Lever to the club made perfect sense at the time. And IMO it still does. We arguably paid too much, but in good faith we seemingly paid what we had to in order to secure the trades. Hardly crazy stuff Chad - in fact, it’s possible that it’s the opposite of crazy, i.e. it was just purely pragmatic trading to attempt to improve our list.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

I have a tear in my eye. I’m not quite sure why, but I desperately want to see this bloke in the red and the blue next year. There just seems to be one of the truly great sports stories of all times potentially unfolding here - for both club and player. Make it happen Josh. PS. Have had a few Laphroaigs and have been watching Last Chance U on a Netflix. I love the underdog stuff - it makes for the best theatre in life. -

Scotch. And acid of course. It’s been a great decade. -

Pity you’ve missed the last decade. In that period, we’ve won 3 flags, made another grand final, and featured in 2 prelims. Missed the 8 only once - bad draw, and horrible run with injuries. We’ve played truly dynamic football for most of this time. It was quite an incredible 11year period. Without doubt, we’ve been the envy of the competition - other club officials and supporters have been praying for us to collapse on the basis of our remarkable success. And yet, some here don’t seem to think we a lock for the top 4 in 2020 ... -

Bennell has the potential to be our Shaun Burgoyne. I remember watching a few games when he was at the Suns thinking this guy is ridiculous. If he can get back to even half of that form on a consistent basis, we’ll have a ripper here. -

Surely he doesn’t want to play at the G for a tenant club - it’s far better to play at the G for the landlord * club. * not literally in a proprietary interest sense, moreso in a historical, moral, we invented the game, traditional ‘owners’ etc sense. Geez I hope we land this bloke. -

My heart is beating again. The prospect of landing Bennell makes me feel as though we’re back in the mix - that we’re relevant again. Make it happen Josh - there’s zero risk here. Bennell at the G in the red and the blue is a bloody exciting prospect. -

I'm relatively pleased with our trade period to date - Langdon, Tomlinson and then taking picks 3 and 8 into this year's draft. Landing Bennell would however give it the excitement that, for me, this trade period has been lacking. It literally turbo charges everything. -
Hopefully Jason Taylor is already in his ear as to Port’s player rankings for this year’s draft.

Neale Daniher Book - When all is said & done

Bleeedingly obvious statement, but this guy is an absolute legend. The MFC should induct him into our Hall of Fame. Immediately. -
Correction - brown cardboard boxes.

I think our list is okay. That said, I’m genuinely surprised we didn’t play harder to secure a decent small (and another proven tall) forward - they’re obvious deficiencies which haven’t been addressed, and there were several candidates (seemingly) on the market. Real pity we missed Elliott. I’m however super happy with Langdon. Pleased with Tomlinson. Having two picks in the top 10 is fantastic - now need to nail them obviously. B+
-
They’re both just reflecting on things. Albeit with ball in hand, during a heavily contested AFL game, in the middle of the MCG.
-
We traded our second rounder for Ed Langdon, which is a superb use of that pick. And next year’s pick 18 in a weak draft is not nearly as good as pick 8 in this year’s draft. I reckon it’s really astute.
-
Quite frankly, I’m happy for him to sell it. We simply cannot have another season like this year’s. Despite finishing 17th, we are (ironically) in the premiership window right now, and we have to go for it - full bore. Great move - Josh Mahoney is a gun at trading picks IMO. I love it.
-
Jason Taylor must be sweating bullets on this pick.
-
This would be an epic result, given that the club and all of us had factored in us having just won the flag this time last year, and we haven’t lost any of our ‘stars’ during this trade period.
-
Would’ve preferred Jamie Elliott.
-
Just watched the highlights package on the MFC website - he’s always sprinting, looks unreal. Wish we could’ve landed two of him. He could actually be the blue print for Jayden Hunt (on the other wing). Over to you Mr Burgess.

I really reckon we can AF. The playing (and possibly coaching) group now has some unwanted life experience. I suspect they were complacent at the end of last year (in addition to all of the other factors that stuffed our season which are well known), and I hope this complacency has been knocked out of them owing to the horrendous howler that was 2019. Nothing is to be taken for granted now. And I forgot to mention Fritsch in our forward line - he’s a gun. We just need to add the forward 50 delivery, which was sadly lacking this year. I hope recruiting Langdon and Tomlinson will address this.
-
$$$ - and you’re automatically in their best 22. Must be better than playing in the VFL for 80% of the season at a better club.
