I think this game was the most exciting, and ultimately the most depressing, game I have ever watched. I watched it with my now deceased Uncle, and we were both in tears after it. Sad aside - when I said goodbye to him in hospital many years later, his last ever words to me were ... ‘Go the Dees’.

Just an ordinary home and away game, but I remember him taking a massive pack mark in the goal square against North in 2002 to boot the winner on the siren. Loved him ever since.

As an aside, I used to work with Yze’s niece. Lovely person. She was a huge Demons fan and said that her entire family loves the club - I believe this extended to her uncle Adem. Get this done.

He’s our Steve Smith. Absolute legend.
-
I’m taking his press conferences and interviews at face value - it seems to me that he has genuine affection for the club, and that he’s really enjoyed this phase of his career, though especially his first two years at the MFC. Lewis has class. I really enjoyed what he brought to this club - and it seems his older boy seems to love the Dees too. I expect that a career in the media (which is clearly open to him) will ultimately be far more lucrative for him, and that he’s more stimulated by it. But that’s not to say he doesn’t like the MFC, and the MFC and the players don’t respect him or his massive contribution to the club.

This would be an epic result. The mids and the forwards would learn a lot from the Ooze - he was a great ball user, had super skills, and always seemed to have heaps of time. Would love to see him back at the Dees.

The problem is that he seems to negotiate, not like a modern lawyer, but like a suburban litigation solicitor from the 1970s who seems to think it’s really clever to not concede a thing and play a game of tedious WW1 style brinkmanship, with the result that no one gets a good deal including, critically, Freo. Fingers crossed, common sense, commercial acumen, and just general decency prevails here. Surely our first second rounder is eminently fair - get it done early, which allows each club to focus on other potential deals.

I loved seeing Jeffy in the red and the blue. One of my favourite players during the Roos years. Good luck to him - will always have very fond memories of his contributions to the club.

I’m not sure Christian Salem will require an appointment. He’ll get the clippers out during the first weights session - just as Langdon does his first rep of the bench press.
-
Carlton has become more of a destination than us - what an amazing fall given the expectations, respectively, at the start of this year.

Stop stating facts please PSD. It’s much more interesting when people are simply making stuff up.
-
Let’s get him. 2 year deal on big bucks.

Nope - quite the opposite. This is essentially a discussion forum in relation to one of my life passions, the Melbourne Demons. In this context, I enjoy and respect contrary opinions - I just find it annoying when certain posters quite uncritically just throw rocks at the club and certain individuals within the organisation. Marry it up with some cogent analysis, and I’ll respect that - even if I ultimately disagree with the underlying opinion/perspective.

Yep, we’re going under. Batten down the hatches. That Burgess and Richardson have chosen us over several other AFL clubs is a fact. They’re both experienced AFL men. You seriously think they selected us because they want to end their careers? Perhaps you’re not seeing things as objectively as I suspect you think you are. And yep - I know we’ve been hopeless this season. Everyone knows this including, I expect, everyone associated with the club.
-
I just reckon we’ll turn it around, and quite quickly. I’m hoping we will have learnt a lot from this year. It may have been the recession we had to have. We’ll get a good first rounder and should get a good draw. Hopefully we’ll not have 75% of the list either out injured or out of form. A significant refresh in the coaching department, some minor tweaking with the list, and the end to complacency should produce good pre-season and a much more determined, hard-nosed approach next year. The playing list lost its innocence this year. Next year, I’m hoping we’ll play with a ruthlessness that comes through having been knocked around a bit and having endured a few bruises in life. This year could very well be the making of us.
-
Seriously - some of the posters here should just support another club. Sure - it’s been a schizen season. There are reasons for this - some unfortunate, some probably due to our own incompetence. But to bag out this signing is red hot. Like Burgess, Richardson absolutely had options with several other AFL clubs, and he chose us. Plainly this is a good sign. There’s NO way he would’ve committed to us if he thought we were a basket case - I mean, why would he?! Despite some of the criticism here of him as a failed senior coach, the reality is - he’s a super experienced AFL man and he knows the lay of the land. That he chose us is on any construction a great sign for the future, and IMO an endorsement for the way we are run and our potential for success next year and beyond.

Brayshaw is a gun. Would be a big mistake to trade him. We just need to get him back to playing the football we know he can (i.e. manage him better).
-
He’s already putting his own interests above the interests of the club.

I really like Jordan Lewis. Even though I expect his heart will always be with Hawthorn, I hope he continues to have some involvement and affection for the red and the blue. He’s contributed a lot to this club - I was absolute stoked when the trade was announced, and he’s been one of my favourite players on the list ever since. I’m a bit disappointed he’s not going around for one more year.
-
Yep, he was hopeless in the season proper, especially in finals. Good article. Injuries and players out of form have exposed deficiencies in our game plan - but this is absolutely fixable, and IMO is not as dire as many here characterise it to be.
-
I suspect there'd be many here with very reactive, albeit acutely arthritic, knees ...
-
I’d love to be able to say ‘yeah, I played a game of AFL’. ’For the Dees’. ’Oh, and yeah, I also played NBL’. Not one bloke at a pub would patronise that. On any construction, he should be super proud of himself and his achievements. Good luck to the guy. Hope his heart continues to beat true after he leaves the club.

The clouds seem to have aligned on the Jenkins rumour. Unlike several of the fantasy rumours we hear at this point in the season, this one actually makes sense.

Surely Richo’s the number one target for replacing McCartney.
