WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
darkhorse72 replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Given players are often taken in a different order to pre-draft speculation., if the the suns rate him #2, maybe the current spec of a rating around 6-8 is wrong compared to other draftees? The question is not his speculative ranking but is he the best player in the top 10 that suits what we need? From what I know he is so we take him whether at #3 or #26. Like many posters here I believe JV will be at the dees next year. -
on the news tonight they linekd him to the Lions as said here. Just have to wait for the paperwork. Also his managers talks how St Kilda will wait the 72 hours to give an answer, whereas they let BG go today, no fuss. Which means his manager hasn't really worked out how things are going to work with FA.

What does Mitch Morton's improvement say?
darkhorse72 replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mitch form int he 2nd was great from what i heard, kicking bags or 9 and 10 on more than one occasion. And to those that said he would not have played if player X was playing that is true. But he was chosen ahead of about 20 other blokes for that spot in the GF team. He earned it over the year and fought for a place in the side. Some people forget grand final sides are not made full of stars. You look at most, have 2/3 great players and a great supporting cast of whom many would be average no different than the other 17 sides in the comp. But they play a role and sometimes have a day out. Its about the team and individual brilliance is the icing on the cake. -
spoke too soon. how many goals have been kicked at that end?
-
Koby has looked the goods in his few appearances and WC wanted to hang onto him. Great skills and leadership, could be someone to grab.

People are been pushing us to get Ratten, for various reason many of them of experience and recent success. But in the media they have talked about how poorly he has interviewed up at the Gold Coast, Primus got the job, and I'm wondering if is too bitter at the moment to be taken on by another club, including us. In the search for a high powered midfield coach, who else could be available beyond williams for reasons who has already discussed on here? Maybe someone like Gary Ayres, who has a great job at a lower level where he would have been involved in every facet of the club and tactics etc.

Swans and the NRL - we can learn something here
darkhorse72 replied to Hatchman's topic in Melbourne Demons
unfortunately for the receiver Hopoate had the inverse of that statement... -
interesting article and also shows that we should get viney with our second rounder given GWS and Suns have more important players to grab.

Rumour is Didak will retire this week
darkhorse72 replied to Demon Forever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good player, got the Pies going last week and they missed him, niggling injuries pretty much bringing it to an end. Would have been good to have in our team and was a dreamteam star for a bit. Otherwise, I don't really care. -
its mind games, telling the hawk players they wont have to try hard to beat the crows and maybe catch them unawares. but he wold know they have overachieved this year as a team to make the prelim. behind closed doors it would be all positive.

There are deep issues at PA, it will be interesting to see who they end up with.

Get Paul Williams - Midfield Coach
darkhorse72 replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
been there done that, unlikely to bring anything new. Though on memory I dont think he was the midfield coach last time which i think we all discussed was odd. -
SImply he realised his kids don't stay kids for long and wants time with them, the way his dad supported him...good on him and hopefully once his boy is running around in red & blue he'll get back into it as he has the talent. Given I'm in WA and haven't seen an image of brett since he retired...wheres the hair!! lol.

darkhorse72 replied to iv'a worn smith's topic in Melbourne Demons

POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
darkhorse72 replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
More the case how will nicknat go when Cox retires, if he hasn't learnt to read a game of footy they then he'll be a huge liability with the way the game has evolved. edit: spelling -
POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
darkhorse72 replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
that low 18th best ruckman on stats and starting in the AA...our boys should all grow dreadlocks and get foreign citizenship in Fiji, if Fiji right? What a joke, who is on the panel, anyone know. Love Lyon's quote. lol -
Its good part of finals, separates it from the home and away. On memory waltzing matilda won the public vote on the anthem at the time of the nation choosing. So our national anthem would have been about a sheep stealer who commits suicide to stop owning up to his actions...could any nation match that. The national anthem is what it is, I generally like, prior to its adoption, it was god save the queen (King) so we can always go back to that if you like. As for girt by sea, buy a dictionary.

Spot on, NN does not have a football brain. -
A simple NOOOOOOOOOO!
-
great idea but maybe limit it to members of over 20 years of continuous membership, then every decade of membership as a celebration. You could even use retired stars for it.

And another one bites the dust - Cook
darkhorse72 replied to Demon Disciple's topic in Melbourne Demons
yes i agree, its the silly season. if he has quit we'll officially hear about it soon enough. -
Maybe he played rivers out of position as he felt Rivers was more versatile then only pigeon holed as a backman. Changes of roles often comes with a new coach. Time will tell.

Dean Bailey Interview on 5AA September 2007
darkhorse72 replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
A very interesting read, but for all your psych testing, the old gut instinct is usually the best. The process was the process, for example we don't know how much difference their was between say hardwick and bailey, it might have been 1 point in a scale of 1000. Though they most likely didn't ask him what he would be do if the CEO and footy department head were conspiring against him, but the players loved you?
