Part of showing respect to a player is to have a heart to heart with them, outlining where they are at. If the FD feels they won't play senior footy in the next season, then a retirement with a payment, has them leaving as a senior player, not a reserves player, who played on too long. Conversations need to be honest and respectful as you say, but the player needs to know the lay of the land and then be allowed to make a decision, on how they want to end their time at the club. That is the respect that you afford your long term players. I would think most players with pride want to go out near the top, not the bottom, thereby harming their playing reputation.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Redleg replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Disagree. I don't want us chasing anyone who is not best 25 on our list atm, or capable of getting there, except a backup ruckman. The days of getting anyone are gone for us, as we have a pretty good list, that just needs a little specific improvement. -
It will in time.

Well hopefully we are a chance. At least with us he would be 2nd in line, but would certainly get games. At Giants he is 3rd in line and with WC I am unsure of their rucks without Nic Nat, but know they have Williams, who is more of a fill in. If he is a WA, then I would imagine WC would have appeal.
-
Easy for you to say.
-
Well if it's based solely on a sell out GF and a great game, plus Gill finally leaving the building, then it would be a good year for the AFL. If it's about a host of other issues they have stuffed up, then absolutely not.

Love James for what he has done for us, but unfortunately his disposal and decision making is now really poor. Wish him all the best wherever he lands, be it Tigers or Bombers.
-
Sydney have a far deeper midfield than the Saints, so it is strange for a player who has not been able to get a regular game and is probably leaving for more opportunities. I could say the same for JJ. Maybe the contract is fatter.
-
Thought Dow was headed to Saints. Maybe Shiel was main target.
-
Love to have Flynn, yeah want him the most, Unfortunately though, he has chosen West Coast.
-
Or if Acres was Mil Hanna, we would have been in the PF.
-
But we love a goal, And that's his main role. We played a tall, who must have a stench, As we kept the poor guy, stuck to the bench.
-
So then you want Watson, he's very slick, Can take a nice grab and is also so quick.
-
6 of their 18 points were rushed in play. They kicked pressure goals after the siren twice and several from outside 50, with Crisp two, De Goey and Sidebottom, just as examples.

Roses are red, Violets are blue, Who is the new guy, To wear red and blue?
-
Sorry, I don't regard ruckmen as key position players, just as I don't view mids as key position players. I view FF, CHF, CHB and RB as the key position players. Anyway that is how I think of them.
-
Yes and Mihocek says hi.
-
Faris-White is not a key position player and either is Sestan for a start. We know we have injuries and maybe a retirement in there as well, so no problems.
-
We lost to them by 7 points, with Gus ko’d 2 minutes into the QF, effectively losing say 30 possies from an experienced versatile player and replaced by a totally non effective player, so down a fresh player at the end and having 32 more inside F50’s. Poor goal kicking and without Petty, Melk and BBB, all of whom if fit would have been better than their replacements. Also with Gus out Tracc wasn’t able to go forward. They had Daicos out. 32 more inside F50’s is usually a 12-15 goal win. I wouldn’t say Binman and Binman PA were totally wrong, as with any luck at all, we win that QF and play off in the GF against one of Lions or Pies and possibly win it. Pies imo are well coached, but have had enormous luck this year and we had a lot of bad luck. Look at all the non Giants frees last week and Pies win by a Point. We haven’t won an arc decision in my recent memory.
-
Clearly we hoped BBB and Tom Mac would be ok until the end of their contracts next year and that Schache would somehow improve from his disclosed AFL form.
-
Carlton.
-
Coaches them for close finishes every training session as I posted a few days ago. They wouldn’t have lost the semi against Carlton like we did.
-
Hill by a fair way so far. Have to stop young Daicos or else.
-
And them. Someone needs to fix up Nick Daicos. He is setting them up constantly.
