The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Redleg replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Leaving aside the current debate, there can be no argument as to the value of a good coach. 3 of the acknowledged best, in Bevo, Longmire and Cameron, got their sides into the last 4, with 2 of course in the GF. I hope Goody is a great Coach, because we need one. -
Nickname(s) Cuts Date of birth 20 February 1995 (age 21) Original team(s) Oakleigh Chargers Draft No. 33, 2013 National Draft, Brisbane Lions Height / weight 190 cm / 85 kg Position(s) Half Back Club information Current club Brisbane Lions Number 26 Playing career1 Years Club Games (Goals) 2014– Brisbane Lions 33 (12) Is described as a running player, whatever that means. From Wiki: Tom Cutler (born 8 November 1995) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Cutler was drafted by the Lions with pick 33 in the 2013 AFL Draft.[1] He made his debut againstPort Adelaide in round 4 of the 2014 season. Cutler grew up in Balwyn, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, supporting the Brisbane Lions as a child. He played for the Greythorn Football Club, winning multiple club and league best & fairest awards. At the age of 16, he stopped playing club footy to concentrate on school football for Trinity Grammar, and to play basketball, at which he also excelled. Cutler had an injury ridden 2013 with the Oakleigh Chargers, although when he was available he impressed recruiters with his elite decision-making and athleticism. Tom debuted in Round 4 of 2014 against Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval. Despite getting thumped by the Power, Tom had a respectable debut. He went on to play 7 games for the year, his best of which being a 21 disposal effort against Richmond at the Gabba in Round 5. His debut season was cut short due to injury, soon after being omitted from the side mid-season, suffering from a groin injury and then having minor knee surgery. He is expected to be fit for a full pre-season with the Lions.

IMO a list needs a core of about 30 players who are AFL standard and another 10 who are either young draftees and/or players that could make the 30 in the future.

Actually they included his finals stats as well. Well we can agree to disagree on whether Boyd was an absolute gun in the finals. I don't think he was. I think he played a great game in the GF. -

And that is all Hogan's fault and all Boyd's credit. Do you think if Jesse was a Bulldog, he might have a medallion today? -
And they are the ones most of us want to move on and try and get better ones.

On that basis, Cowan of Geelong is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. -

Here are the stats of Boyd and Jesse for this year for those who like to compare. Have fun analyzing. Put even simpler, 1 in 7 of Boyd's possessions is a free kick while 1 in 19 of Jesse's is. Maybe if Jesse was a Bulldog he would have a lot more goals and possessions. He is a 200cm forward/ruckman on $1m plus a year. No goals in first 3 finals. 3.5 kicks ave in first 3 finals. 3 marks ave in first 3 finals. 15 disposals in first 3 finals ( not bad ) Hitouts 12 ave in first 3 finals. Anyway he has a medallion in his best game. -
He would think so.

Little whisper, the New Guinea Nutcrackers are being considered.

Correct at the time. Then appointed the right Coach and things changed over 2 years.
-
But even then he wouldn't agree to come to us on the Rookie list, as suggested by the poster, even if that was possible. But yes, if he was in the draft and wasn't taken, he could be rookie listed.

And for those that love stats. Boyd had played 34 games before this year's finals. An average of 11 per year. 9 in his first year with GWS. 25 with the Dogs. In none of those games was he considered to have been a star of the game. This year he played 11 of the 22 games. Form not injury was the main factor. He played a fair game in the ruck against Mummy and contested well, though again not starring in the PF. His breakout game was yesterday and happened to be the GF. He has not shown consistent good form in 3 years in the AFL. But on the strength of one good game, some on here hail him the new Polly Farmer/Tony Lockett rolled into one. FWIW, Jesse's stats are far more impressive and he didn't cost us $2m for the last 2 years. -
But he still has to get traded or go into the draft, doesn't he?

But isn't he contracted to the Eagles? So how do you trade for him, to put him on the Rookie list and why would he do that if you could?

If it were me I would be getting rid of Tippet and keeping Mitchell.

Beat me to the post. Boyd had a great game in the GF. First one that I can recall. Wasn't he dropped to the VFL for a large chunk of games this year, because his form was terrible? Played 14 AFL games this year. Was defended by the club for his poor form, while on a huge salary. The short memories dominate on here. -

Ward a mercenary? He begged them to stay. Wanted $50000.00 more on a poor contract to stay, when he had been offered double to leave and you call him a mercenary. Dogs have admitted it was their bad mistake he left. Cooney was dumped because of his bad knee, after playing his career at the Dogs and offers to leave and would have stayed if they wanted him. It's easy to attack people when you are not accountable. -

No one said he is the messiah. It's just the anger that has been directed at him, by so called Demon fans, when at this stage he has done nothing to deserve it. He is contracted for another year. Has never said he is leaving. He is apparently dealing with a family crisis. Yet, is the butt of anger and derision from some, because he hasn't extended his contract in the time period they demand. FFS. I thought we were meant to support our players, until or unless they do something that should end that support. What has he done wrong to deserve the anger of some? As usual, if he stays and does well, those same supporters will be the ones fawning all over him. -

When it's announced he has extended his contract with us, probably next week, some posters on here are going to feel very silly, given some of the ridiculous comments that have been posted by them..
