  1. From the AFL site: His raw numbers stacked up: he led the League in handballs (21.9), was second in contested possessions (15.6), fifth in total disposals (659) and eighth in average disposals (30), 10th in clearances (6.6) and 11th in tackles (6.9). Oliver's handball rate helped, but his disposal efficiency of 77.1 per cent also ranked second among the top-10 ball-winners and fourth in the top 20. Demons co-captain Nathan Jones was among those surprised at Oliver's omission. "It's obviously an opinion of the selectors, but from our perspective he's been a terrific addition to our team," Jones said. "He's taken a huge leap for a young player … and he's probably pretty stiff to miss out this year, but I'm tipping he won't be too far away." Oliver perhaps needed to kick more than four goals and average more than 199.4 metres gained – the new buzz statistic in the AFL world. The pacesetters rack up 500-plus metres, while Hawk Tom Mitchell, for comparison's sake, amassed 313.4. Oliver's like-for-like competition was probably Matt Crouch, Rory Sloane, Joel Selwood, Dylan Shiel, Mitchell and Josh Kennedy. Kennedy played 19 games, Selwood 18, and Oliver is with the rest all on 22. Only Kennedy averaged more clearances than Oliver. Only Mitchell and Crouch averaged more disposals. None of that group won more contested possessions. Only Sloane out-tackled him. Digging deeper, they all bettered Oliver's three inside 50s per match and, damningly, crushed him in average metres gained. The reasoning, valid or not, for Oliver's snub is suddenly clearer. His critics – and we're not talking about Damien Martyn – consistently stated he would be more impactful if he kicked more. The All Australian selectors clearly agree.
  2. Hope so.
  3. Haven't seen DL this fired up, but understandably so. I am so p-ssed off I actually don't want to watch any finals even including the GF. I just couldn't care less. Have even stopped watching 360 and AFL tonight.
  4. Wow, 2nd best contested possession player in the AFL, one of the leading clearance players and more handballs than anyone in AFL history, 4th best tackler and 5th in disposals, all in his 2nd year and he cant crack the AA squad of 40. Players like Jonas, Roberton, Ross etc must be superstars of the game then.
  5. And we are. Consistently disappointing supporters.
  6. Our club and its players continue to disappoint. That is the one constant.
  7. Can I send my account to you care of the Romsey Post Office?
  8. Well, there we are, beat Pies and play first finals since 2006.
  9. Yes, I will write to the club and suggest it.
  10. Fairly simple aim this week, win and play finals.
  11. Well the rumours are starting, I suppose we are getting to that time of year. If you examine carefully the way Goodwin spoke about Watts in the after match this week, your rumour could have legs. I heard today that Kent and Frost are the players to Carlton, with the rest being the same as yours. Who knows?
  12. Well we need to win and hope for the miracle suns win tonight, to round out the weekend .
  13. Would have thought a fair bit of water has to go under the bridge first: He has to leave Adelaide. He has to select us as his new club. We have to do a deal with the Crows.
  14. A big win over the lions, with big losses by Dogs and Eagles, would make it a good AFL weekend. Bombers dropping the unloseable game against Suns would top it off nicely.
  15. Yeah Crows are really struggling.
  16. I was not a fan early this year, but he has improved, possibly due to becoming familiar with our style of play. He does have the ability to kick long on both feet and that makes him a little unpredictable to the opposition. Turning out a good get for us.
  17. Think you will find it is dollars over his footy career and well paid work after it ends.
  18. Kelly will be a Blue.
  19. We probably haven't got great value from him so far, but I think Goodwin, Viney, Taylor and Mahoney will back the talented players in and we need more good users of the ball not less.
  20. Salem is as shaky as The MCG. Really you need to think before you make some of your statements. The best user of the ball in the club and you think because of a couple of suspensions and a poor game he may be traded. Toby Greene must be absolutely gone then.
  21. I've never got it wrong.
  22. Well we are, so please win again.
  23. Condolences to family and friends. He and Tommy Lahiff were a football institution.
