  1. It's ok - just go and wash your mouth out with soap (I barracked for Collingwood in a match once, and had to do it every day for a week before I felt clean again).
  2. Hope so; they'll have to be non-MFC members though to boost the gate takings. Match is at 7:00pm next Saturday night v Port Melbourne (who beat last year's Premiers [North Ballarat] today by 78 points). It's our only night game for the H&A season.
  3. Red text on the blue background would be the appropriate colours for clarity and appeal. The opposition can be in white! I'll pass it on.
  4. Just visited the Casey Fields website and found a couple of photos and a report of the day: http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/caseyfields/ar....asp?Item=15022
  5. Seems like optimism abounds - the same optimism in relation to future membership projections as is applied each week to crowd number projections.
  6. They'll buy the paper to see if it's their friends involved.
  7. The ground's in great shape - I had a walk on it today and didn't even get my runners damp.
  8. A bit of midnight number-crunching or analysis is good to induce some solid sleep later. Goodnight
  9. Bartlett got the bullet after the 1991 season. CS was GM of Richmond from 1988 to 1994. CS turned 28 in December 1991. I didn't hear it on the radio, but if Caro knew CS's age offhand, she has gone even further up in my appreciation of her knowledge. I reckon she does a great job in a really blokey environment, and holds her own in a verbal tussle.
  10. The crowd was 28,707. Our predictions were: 29000 Nugget Jones 29432 pringle 29463 redlegger 29990 rusty kingswood 30000 Dee tention 30011 harry 31222 Casey Scorp 32473 condemned 84 32768 Cooka for Charlie 33276 gOLLy 33742 TheOx05 35000 rpfc 35000 Al's demons 35000 Dreamin Demon 36287 Morton2Watts 36912 Distance Demon 37578 why you little 38991 montasaurus 39331 High Tower 43459 tooly
  11. Now just go careful on creating a new myth. North did not finish in the top 4 last year – they finished 7th after the H&A, and were officially placed 8th after losing the 2nd Elimination Final to Sydney.
  12. I missed singing and the guard of honour. But, I recall that the Demon Heartland kids were to sit near the cheersquad. The club may not have implemented it yet (depends on the level of support by members for the initiative). I also know that at least some of the kids who got to go on the guard of honour simply responded through the club's website. The ones I heard about don't live in Casey, and weren't Demon Heartland kids - they were MFC junior members.
  13. Went to St KFC v Sydney last night. Talked to another Saints supporter who is a teacher at a Berwick primary school (which is in Casey). She said that a couple of Melbourne players came to the school and did a clinic, and one of the kids in her grade has now latched onto Melbourne. It’s all starting to happen, as planned. Incidentally, she said that the players said they love Casey Fields, and they couldn’t understand why St KFC let go the opportunity.
  14. Moved to avoid clash with MFC, so that listed emergencies can get a match on the weekend.
  15. MFC home game against Kangaroos in 2008 was Round 17 - crowd was 21,330. 6 matches later, things have changed dramatically for the Dees. A lot of supporter enthusiasm, no doubt buoyed by an unbeaten record so far this season, would lead to a prediction of > 30,000. I'll go 31,222.
  16. The works on the outer are worth about $650,000 and they'll go ahead independently of MFC signing up. The works which are related to MFC signing up are extension to the pavilion ($2.1 million, of which the Council is funding $1.25 million).
  17. There are lots of reasons why the Saints could be seen by the Zebs as a better partner than the Demons: • the historic Trevor Barker connection • their home base is in the next suburb • they are doing well in the AFL at the moment. But, with a closer look, they aren’t a strategic basis for making a decision. Despite the TB name connection, it never assisted in fostering a closer relationship between the two clubs in previous years. The redevelopment of the home base in Moorabbin has been the subject of disputation with the owner of the land, the Kingston Council. The Saints, despite having over 30 years left in the lease, have made a decision to pull up stumps and establish a new home base in the backblocks of Seaford. A strange decision indeed, and even more perplexing given that Casey Fields (the home of the Saints then aligned VFL team, the Casey Scorpions) was available to them at the time. The issues with the Seaford base are another story in itself, and there’s plenty of comment about that on Saintsational. Results in the AFL are cyclical as teams re-build and wane, so you wouldn’t base a decision (you wouldn’t think) on where a team was in the cycle at any point in time. In terms of relationship, the Scorps have a far better relationship with MFC than they ever had with the Saints. So I’m not sure what the major coup has been for the Zebs. Particularly if the Saints decide to dump the Zebs and realign with Frankston once they get down there – then where will the Zebs be?
  18. Casey RACE To reflect the speed at which you race down the water slides - fearfully quickly I'm told by someone who has piloted them. Also Recreation & Aquatic CEntre
  19. They were built to last a couple of weeks, but there seemed to be genuine community affection for them so the Govt offered them to Councils. http://www.melbourne2006.com.au/In+the+New...3+Fish+list.htm Casey Council took 3 of them. There's the leatherback turtle outside the Casey ARC (the major aquatic facility in Narre Warren), the dolphinfish next to the South Gippsland Hwy in Tooradin and the Roach in the Casey RACE (the almost completed major aquatic facility in Cranbourne East). Because they were only designed to last 2 weeks they have cost Councils which took them a small fortune to get upgraded for permanent display. But they are certainly a feature. When you see them erected now, I wouldn't describe them as hideous. And they are certainly a cultural icon following their popularity in the river.
  20. They've already got the plan - they've just been waiting for a team to come along to share it with. <_<
  21. The pool is more than half finished; it's almost completed and will be open in June. It's just about finished, and then there's commissioning and training of staff etc. It'll blow your mind when you get inside it, whether you're a kid wanting excitement on the water slides, a little tot in the kids water playground area, seriously after fitness in the main pool and gymnasium or lying back in the sauna and steam rooms. One of the Commonwealth Games fish sculptures is inside on a wall. Works on a covered spectator standing area, toilets and a kiosk on the outer side start within the next couple of weeks.
  22. Fair enough. The club was all over the place during last year, and the eye wasn't on the sponsorship ball at the critical time - which is understandable I suppose. Realistically, key issues (like who runs the club) tend to take precedence. I agree - draw a line in the sand and move on. But I suppose its just a salutary lesson for players in the field.
  23. We're two-thirds of the way through the month and two out of four are ticked off: (iii) major sponsor (x 2!!) = Hankook and Kaspersky Lab (iv) #1 ticketholder = RD Barassi Hope there's announcements on (i) and (ii) before the month's out.
  24. He's talking of lost sponsorship revenue. If you have had a $1.2 million/year sponsor and the deal finishes, you lose $100,000 of revenue for every month that you fail to get a replacement. You can never recover that revenue. If you ultimately get a $1.8 million/year sponsor, you probably should have pushed the relevant buttons earlier. In the meantime you would have been getting revenue of $150,000 month extra if you'd got the sponsorship earlier. The goal is to have the sponosrship transition as swift as possible (include a clause in the deal regarding renewal, which gives an adequate time prior to expiry to agree an extension, or the Club can negotiate with others).
