  1. It shouldn’t need a summit – it shouldn’t even need a request. It should be just standard practice you would think to put training details on the website.
  2. Casey's current population is about 235,000. It will grow to 350,000 over the next 15-20 years if the Urban Growth Boundary stays in the same place. If it moves out further (and the govt has promised to keep 15 years supply of land within the UGB) then there will be even more growth. That is the key to the success of the move to Casey. As far as a tradies paradise is concerned, that's spot on. Not only does the growth drive significant employment in the building industry, but a heck of a lot of tradies live in Casey. They have money and kids!!
  3. 124 x 52 = 6448 In fact the 12 month's growth to June 30 2007 (latest available I think) was 6844. That = 132 people/week. I don't know whether Nugget (or someone else) transposed the figures prior to doing a calculation, but it seems too co-incidental that the same digits are involved. The 6844 is ABS stat for Casey's growth. http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/Lo...;num=&view=
  4. I know, and it's a bit frustrating for everyone that it's not up on the MFC website. The club must have advised the Council, but it would make far more sense if it put it up on its own website (subject to change). Hopefully that will come. And when the club does modify it, hopefully they'll pass that onto the Council so that the Council website can be updated. Lots of hoping......
  5. There was a total of $998,000 available from Council, AFL Victoria and the State Government for sheltered, tiered spectator areas on the outer side of the ground and toilets. Of this amount $350,000 has been redirected into the MFC project. Therefore there is still $648,000 available. There has been a delay in proceeding with the project while the MFC/Council agreement was unresolved because MFC wasn't sure whether it still wanted to commit to Casey for 30 years (until it was certain how much, if any, of the funds would head over to the other side of the oval to contribute to the MFC project it was impossible to scope the project on the outer). Now everything appears to be back on track. Because of the delay, there's no prospect of the shade areas being completed by late Summer/early Autumn 2009. It'll be there by 2010 though.
  6. According to the City of Casey's website, MFC training starts at 8:30am on the following days at Casey Fields: November: Monday - 10, 24 Wednesday - 12, 19, 26 Friday - 14, 21, 28 December: Monday - 8, 15 Wednesday - 3, 10, 17 Friday - 19 source: http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/whatsonatcasey....asp?Item=13899
  7. There is a mound running around the ground that provides a view over the top of other patrons. I didn't hear of any criticism about impeded view when there were over 10,000 at Hawthorn v Essendon (I did hear about delays getting cars out of the site). The people were quite densely packed on the grandstand side of the ground. Similar density on the outer side would have meant a crowd of over 15,000.
  8. The main VFL carpark was full, but it only holds about 300 cars. There is plenty of other land at Casey Fields which was used for parking, as well as some vacant farmland nearby (but that is now having houses built on it. Since then an area has been set aside for carparking and it can hold about 3,000 cars. Carparking itself won’t be an issue at Casey Fields – there will be some major parking areas established throughout the site. It might require people to walk a few hundred metres, but that would be the price of a big crowd. The biggest issue is the access. Presently there is only one access point, and it was pretty slow to get out when Hawthorn played Essendon (10,000 crowd). It was pretty easy when MFC played the Kangaroos (6,000 crowd). In a few years there will be 3 access roads into the complex, 4 lane roads on the perimeter and traffic lights.
  9. It was quite packed, but mainly on the grandstand side. It was far thinner on the outer side. The Scorpions are planning some spectator cover and toilets on the outer in the next few months, so the outer side will be more attractive for spectators. You would probably get close to 20,000 at a squeeze, but a comfortable figure would be 15,000. However, there would need to be considerable car access improvements before a crowd of that size could be accommodated. The Council website says training is at 8:30am on the days specified.
  10. If you read the information on the Frankston Council site most of it is way out of date and relates to the Saints originally planned move to Frankston Park before the poor evaluation, feasibility and due diligence undertaken ended up blowing that project out of the water. A smaller amount of the matters relate to the alternative Belevedere Park location. The most recent posting is mid-September. At least the Casey Council site already has an up to date page with MFC's training times at Casey Fields to the end of 2008. I'd be pretty sure that the strength of the community partnership between the Council and MFC would see something similar on the Casey Council website(hopefully considerably better than the Saints have on Frankston Council website). http://www.casey.vic.gov.au/whatsonatcasey....asp?Item=13899

  12. And MFC would pursue a sustainable geographic support base where? And MFC would be aligned with which VFL team, now that Sandy has given it the flick? And MFC would have a stable summer training base where? If you think that the Casey move is the biggest mistake since 1980, I assume that you would be happy to see the club continue to slide and eventually dissolve. It can't keep going like it has for the last 10 years, let alone the last 20-30 years and hope to survive. As Roost It asked, can you explain why you feel that way?
  13. One of the benefits of Casey Fields you might recall is that it is in a rapid growth area. Along with growth will come improved infrastructure. Public Transport There's already bus service (TrainLink) which meets every train from 5am to 1am and goes to within 700m of Casey Fields. Anyone who catches the train to Cranbourne and walks to Casey Fields has to walk past the waiting bus at the station. There's also a promise to extend the metro service and build a station at Cranbourne East. Car Access to Casey Fields The current entrance road will be a signalised intersection with a 4 lane north-south arterial road crossing the existing road. There are planned to be 3 access points to/from Casey Fields to the north-south road. The traffic signals and the first couple of entrances should be built within 3 years. The blue lines on this plan show the proposed principal roads in the area: http://webadmin.gaa.vic.gov.au/Assets/File...t%20network.pdf

  15. I'd be pretty sure that there would be a NAB Challenge match there on 14 March 2009. If MFC is not in the GF of the NAB Cup then it will be MFC v ?? at Casey Fields at 2:00pm that day. The only sticking point could be the building works under construction at that time, but given how long it has taken for an ageement to be struck between MFC and Casey Council it is likely that the building works won't have started by then. I think I did hear that MFC sought an opening round NAB Cup match (would have been better than Launceston), but I think we'll have to wait for 2010 for that. It was a great day at Casey Fields for the NAB Challenge match earlier this year. 6,000 people, and next year would presumably be considerably more with MFC making prior forays into the Casey community. This year there was hardly any pre-publicity locally - next year I think there would be heaps.
  16. Certainly an historic occasion. We could look back in 20 years, and recall the day that MFC first set up at Casey Fields. By that stage it might be a boutique stadium, and MFC might be playing some of its home matches there. Who was there when MFC played its first game at Casey Fields (Saturday 8 March 2008 v North Melbourne)?
  17. Unfortunately I'll be interstate.
  18. More like an intraclubs practice match
  19. You could, though, play a novelty match where 2 teams made up of players from both clubs played each other. Bit like in the school yard where teams were picked turn about. That could be a family day, promotional game played at Casey Fields.
  20. I doubt that MFC v Casey has any legs, although I guess if would be a filip for success-starved MFC supporters. It would be a % booster too. Casey is competitive with other VFL teams only when it has AFL players added to its pool of VFL players. Take out the AFL players and the resultant team of Scorpions players only would be a very weak team made up with a lot of players who play VFL reserves. Hardly competition for an AFL club.
  21. An article in the Herald Sun today goes on and on about Chris Johnson, but then concludes with this paragraph: “The Demons start their summer training stint at Casey Fields on Thursday.” http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...0-19742,00.html Blues poised to snare Chris Johnson
  22. CC got him to Freo in 2007 as an assistant coach.
  23. Nothing has been "discovered". If you follow the Council reports and the history of the site you would know: * the Scorpions have a 10 year lease * the proposed MFC arrangement is for 30 years, with occupancy rights through consecutive licences from the Scorpions (as leaseholder) or from the Council * the recent report was about providing certainty for the Scorpions that they would at least have a licence from the Council beyond the first 10 years if the Council decides not to provide a new lease.
  24. I did read in one of the local papers a few weeks ago that it was going to be today (November 1), but more recently I have see reference to next Thursday (November 6). I have been told that it will be at 8am, although I only have that second hand. You would think that the club would have a blaze of publicity about it locally, including promoting it as a before school opportunity for kids to welcome the team. I know that the target of establishing in the growth area is the young population, and you can hardly expect them to come before the school clinics are well entrenched, but for the MFC supporting families in the area I reckon it would be a good opportunity to welcome the team to Casey and to get good community photos. I think, however, unless the club hits the SMS and e-mail real quick, the opportunity will be lost.
