  1. Premiership players are not all superstars. Premiership teams all have their quota of what Jack Dyer called 'good ordinary footballers;.
  2. Kaiden Brand?
  3. Tomlinson has elite endurance which is an entry level requirement for a winger today. They have to be able to run from back pocket to forward pocket all game long. They need to be able to help out defenders when they're out of position, be a forward option when required, be a target out of defence and to provide width so we can release into space from centre corridor. Tomlinson is good overhead, should have an advantage in the air over most opponents. He may not be super speedy but will be a better wing option than out of position inside mids like Jones, Tyson, Lewis and Brayshaw. And we've given up no draft assets to get him.. And we'll have speedy wing options with Langdon and Baker to mix and match with.
  4. Lions are moving to purpose built facility at Springfield.
  5. Frost is better than average at chase down tackles, running and carrying. Frost is worse than average at choosing and executing right decision with ball in hand, one on one versus a key forward. A metres gained player who turns the ball over. A key defender who struggles one on one with positioning and body work against key forwards.
  6. Mahoney has made it clear that told Frost/Manager what our contract offer terms would be and Frost/Manager indicated our proposed terms were less than what Hawks were offering.
  7. When Clarko wants a player from another club the Hawks do the deal even if they are paying a high price ie O'Meara and Wingard.
  8. In a salary cap league he'd be a back up tall defender at a few clubs...
  9. Oskar Baker, Steven May, Joel Smith, Jake Melksham?
  10. The problem with having too much of a contract in incentives is that it makes it hard to budget your salary cap.
  11. The Pies do have 3 small/medium forwards best suited to leading out of the goal square in De Goey, Stephenson and Elliott. This would be a factor in Elliott's decision in 2 ways if he decides to leave. Firstly, where is he in the pecking order for rotation time deep forward? Secondly, how much of their cap do the Pies want to invest in that type of player? De Goey particularly, and Stephenson will both want substantial contracts. How many dollars does that leave for Elliott's contract? On another matter if we accepted rumours about what clubs are offering players no club'd be anywhere near under the salary cap. I doubt we have offered Elliott $750,000 a year.
  12. Copeland trophy tomorrow night may stymie that.
  13. May, Petty, Lever, Tommy Mac can go back. Oscar Mac as a backup had a poor 2019 but has played better in previous years.
  14. Hibberd in contract and we'd have to attach a pick to get another club to take on final year of contract. Frost out of contract.
  15. Hibberd will hopefully be depth only in 2020. He's just not as fast as he was in his prime.
  16. You'd pick Frost over May and Lever? Can you get a list management job at another AFL club so the Dees can trade with you! May and Lever are much better footballers than Frost. May did turn up overweight but from day 1 of preseason worked hard on the track and adopted a better eating plan to strip the weight off. For mine his weight issue should have been picked up at time of trade so the changes made from day 1 of preseason started in October. A more gradual remediation may have also meant he avoided the groin and hammy injuries. May will start preseason in good nick which should set him up for a good season.
  17. Frosty has the athletic profile of a running half back flanker but not the skill profile of a running half back flanker. Can run and carry but poor game sense/disposal means he does not capitalise on his metres gained. He has the height and build of key defender but not the skill set. Is not great one on one under a high ball, either spoiling or marking. What is that profile worth dollarwise within the cap?
  18. The 9th pre season's a charm!
  19. Ryan Burton and a first round pick which if I recall correctly became Xavier Duursma.
  20. Elliot is a free agent so no need to trade the Weed.
  21. I am ok with Suns getting priority pick and other draft concessions. AFL took their eye off the ball, and now we have to pay the price. We need to fix ourselves.
  22. Clarkson may not be stupid but he does make mistakes. Frosty would make a great forward in rugger, with his build and speed. Pros He is tall, super quick and durable. Cons His marking, kicking and positioning are inconsistent. He has yet to show that he can play as a genuine key defender. How much of salary cap do we pay?
  23. In the NBA a team can trade a contracted player to a destination of the team's choice. If we pick up Tomlinson with intention of trading him next year he would have to agree to the trade.
  24. Are there any 'elite' outsiders available? We are desperate for elite running power on wing and flanks. Tomlinson does not have to be a superstar he just has to have the attributes to play his role. His status as an unrestricted free agent means we don't have to give up any assets. Salary cap wise there is no talk that current admin is overpaying players as rumoured in past. Langdon and Tomlinson fill a pretty obvious need. Baker is promising. Who knows we might not play inside mids on the wing in 2020. Imagine that!
  25. Petracca will be boosted by actually playing running half back flankers and wingers who he can kick to in space when he wins the ball. His passing can be lethal.
