  1. Funny that, I went to school on the same school bus with Izzy Dye and my son went to school with his daughter.
  2. And that's that folks. Since we started the Player Review series, we've always "pinned" the particular player's review on top of our pages for a few days to honour his contribution to the club and to keep the focus on the player in question for a few more days and then unpinned the thread to allow others to go up instead. Even did it with Brock McLean when he went to Carlton and declared the drive to Casey for training was too much for him. At least he gave of himself to the club (and more when he donated to the Debt Demolition). However, in the case of Scully, we've decided that he's has had enough exposure on Demonland. Goodbye Tom or Ned or whoever you are. This thread is locked by popular acclaim and it won't be pinned.
  3. I remember going with a few mates to a dance called Penthouse in North Road, Ormond when the great Laurie Allen and Bobby Bright were on the bill. It was 1964 and the pair were popular artists on the The Go!! Show as well as a couple of popular music programmes emanating from the Channel 2 studios at Ripponlea. To use the modern vernacular, the night of the dance was "massive". Hundreds of screaming young girls turned up and they outnumbered us males by 5:1. We thought, "how good is this?" Problem was that when Bobby & Laurie were done, so were the chicks. For the rest of the night the males outnumbered the females 5:1 and alas, the three shillings spent on entry went down the toilet. On reflection, it was a pretty good time. The Demons were on a roll, virtually invincible and on our way to a premiership flag, we could safely hitchhike wherever we wanted to go and we were young and free. What a time it was!
  4. Is that a "pass" Bob?
  5. Over at Carlton they've just delisted O'hAilpin. For their own good though, don't tell the kids who support that club that there's no Setanta.
  6. Perhaps if he adds a Lynden Dunnesque mostache it might be worth looking at.
  7. Which would surely have indicated that he didn't really want to go home for the reasons he was giving GC so I'd discount that possibility. I reckon we couldn't get to talk turkey with GC because they were locked in mediation with Essendon and when that finished it was all too late.
  8. Well, that was a fairly dull, colourless finish to the trade week. Thankfully, we have the Oracle around to put his spin on the final day or so coming up soon.
  9. I think Seb Gotch might be lost to cricket. Hit 120 playing for the Melbourne First XI in Premier Cricket and I suspect a state berth awaits him soon.
  10. You're right. We did get a different cat and now this thread will go into the unpinned regions where who knows if and when it ever surfaces again.
  11. it's not compulsory but if you want to participate in the main draft you need to keep at least three places available. The short answer therefore is that unless you have an unusually high number of retirements or trades, you're going to do some delisting.
  12. Amazing. Club b & f, 19 Brownlow votes and a leadership group member and yet substantially fewer views than for Lucas Cook who hasn't played an AFL game yet!
  13. And what point is this hack writer trying to make? Why didn't he tweet that if Clark was at GWS he wouldn't be in the three highest paid footballers at that club? I think I can include Izzy under the category "footballer", can't I?
  14. If Warnock wants to get to the Hawks then it could be done as part of a deal that gets Jordan Lisle to Brisbane. After all, we've been very chummy this week and its time to start scratching backs.
  15. As much as I'd like to help I'm in Frankston at the moment and can't work miracles although I might be able to duck down the road to Seaford and see what I can do with Brendan Goddard. The complication is that GWS can activate ten uncontracted players under the rule and most are spoken for. They signed James McDonald last month and have traded six so far this trade period (Steven Morris, Marty Clarke, Jamie Elliott, Ahmed Saad, Terry Milera and Luke Brown). They are expected to keep Western Jet Adam Kennedy and Casey defender Tim Mohr which leaves one spot open. I understand that Sheedy would love to get Andrew Lovett into the club but he has to convince his board who aren't so keen. And I'm not sure that the GWS are going to be easy to deal with over their last choice under the rule. Still, we've just learned what perseverance can achieve.
  16. Well ... we got our man against the odds and the fallout is likely to be far reaching. The perception of the club both from within and without is going to change dramatically. The detractors will be less likely to claim that we stand for nothing. The skeptics will no longer claim that we're incapable of getting things done. The people involved in getting Mitch Clark to the club will have enhanced their reputations - people like Tim Harrington, our much maligned CEO Cameron Schwab and our new coach Mark Neeld were all involved in the very impressive reputation that flew to meet Clark. Jade Rawlings was in it too. Our chairman Jimmy who was the inspiration behind the debt demolition and people like Don McLardy and Garry Lyon who backed him to the hilt. But it also means that there will inevitably be those whose departure from the club will be hastened. The ones mentioned in trade week talk will go - surely even Bater will get his wish to join fellow ranga Adam Cooney at the Dogs. Jake Spencer and Robbie Campbell look shaky. And I reckon we might have heard the last of the campaigns to get Fev and Setanta to the club.
  17. Many years ago, when I was at university, I studied economics under a lecturer who was a bit of a rising star in the academic world. He maintained that the study of economics was a science and I scoffed at the idea during a tutorial. We were in the middle of the Poseidon share boom and the price of shares in minerals exploration companies was defying all economic theory and all logic but he was the tutor and I was the student so he won out. Some time later came the stock market crash of 1987 and my former tutor was now one of the experts called upon on a nightly basis to explain the events of the past 24 hours and to predict what was happening next. Invariably, his predictions were wrong and I felt like contacting him and saying, "aha!" This is economics. It's all about people, their expectations, greed and money. Don't expect logic or an ordered universe. Economics is about exact a science as whatever drives that crystal ball of yours. There used to be a wrestler called Ted DiBiase who achieved fame by buying the World Wrestling Federation championship belt from Andre the Giant. He had a saying, "Every man has his price." Now, there was an economist ... and that's how you explain what happened!
  18. Er ... anyone for another name change to this thread?
  19. I'm not usually a fan of highlights videos but that was superimpressive. If he's 20 years old and playing in the main comp. in Tassie, then he can be traded for an uncontracted player pick from GWS. Well worth doing, especially if we can trade out a couple of players.
  20. Bananas is already a tag for this thread and you're right - anyone who maintains their loyalty for the red & blue for a long time in the circumstances has to be bananas and a bit of a fruit loop. The fact that Redleg and I post here just confirms this as a fact.
  21. I really wasn't going to open this thread because I had a feeling what was inside. I think Fev made great strides in his recovery both on and off the field in 2011 and he was very good for the Casey Scorpions. He really did it hard at times when opposition supporters struck hard from their safe havens behind the fence making nasty, sometimes highly personal and uncalled for comments that would have hurt at times when he was down on form. I suppose that's what you call doing penance for the sins of his past. Some wouldn't call them sins because they can be categorised as illness and Fev did it hard after he was found drunk in the early hours of New Years Day. He had some help from friends and is working his way back with their help and a fair amount of effort on his part. He slipped up a little when reported in the VFL semi final and in the reports of the end of year celebrations. He deserves to get a chance and I think he should get it at Tigerland where the captain is his good mate and can help him enormously. I always thought he might end up at GWS where the coach wrote a book about second chance heroes. However, Sheedy has ruled out taking him which shows you that he's a hypocrite.
  22. Sounds like he and GWS are perfect for each other.
  23. I too develop a wry smile when I hear the name "Scully" mentioned. Do we mean the very promising player whose performances in his debut season and in one pre season training session in January had me pronouncing him a future superstar or the one with the injured knee who in 2011 missed half a season, played one or two good games, looked uninterested most of the time and displayed no commitment to his employer or his team's fans? If I want to replace a player, then he has to have some credibility so, if you're asking me, I'll tell you plainly, I don't think Scully needs to be replaced at all. If we were thinking that O'Meara or Crouch were the next Scullys then Gold Coast and Adelaide can have them. The fact is we already have a young bloke in their age category. I've seen him play, he's committed himself to us and those two would have to be bloody good to better him. We have something better than a Scully replacement. As for where we're placed if we don't carry out a recruiting coup in trade week, we're in a good place to challenge anyone for a free agency placement in 2012. Better than the Giants with their concessions and their AFL patronage. We need to pick our marks, start working on them as early as possible and get our deals done. If the other clubs involved are disrupted for the year, the blame for that lies with the AFL which creates the laws.
  24. No relation to the bloke who runs the chicken franchise, I take it.
  25. Now changing to "Not a TS, JO'M, BC or MC Thread" to cater for that bloke from the Lions who prefers Yo ho Freo to It's a Grand Old Flag. He's got to be a cretin, surely?
