Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Whispering_Jack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
The noose around the necks of NRL and AFL dope cheats is tightening:- Hopes of escaping dope ban near zero I suspect the final paragraph will make the Bombers feel uneasy given recent reports that the off-site clinic where their players were being injected last year was under surveillance. -
I still have mine in a cupboard somewhere. Reckon it's turned into vinegar by now if it wasn't to start with in the first place.Up in the NT, Aussie's Tiwi Bombers started off well enough but were overrun by St. Mary's in the NTFL grand final. Best on ground was Willie Rioli Jnr with 5 goals for the winning team. No doubt, he'll be keenly sought after at this year's draft.

More innuendo from the First Lady of muckraking. Dons did not check Dank "Dank was sacked by Essendon late last year and mystery surrounds his employment over the summer months. Melbourne has repeatedly denied he briefly consulted to the Demons, although several players have reported seeing him at the club's AAMI Park training headquarters." Actually, IIRC Melbourne made it clear that Dank applied for a job and was rejected. That's consistent with someone being seen somewhere when applying for work and nothing more. If there was a skerrick of truth in Wilson's inferences, she would be telling us that players reported that he treated them, which is not the case. There's far more truth in the rumours surrounding one of Richmond's favourite players. Wilson should concern herself with those.

NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE
Whispering_Jack replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm only guessing but if James Frawley pulled out before the game then we were one player short to start with and then losing Garland at the main break would have left us two down. Both are tall defenders and with both out and less players available to rotate, we would have been at some disadvantage. If someone knew how to access the match stats this could easily be confirmed. -

Our third quarter fade out is even better than our second. -

Now 22 runs shy of first innings points with one wicket in hand. David Hussey just got his ton.

The only AFL practice game that's being broadcast today is Port Adelaide v Sydney by the 5AA team (I kid you not!).It's definitely worth tuning in for a bit of a laugh. -

Whispering_Jack replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
The start of the game has been delayed by 20 minutes as a result of Melbourne rocking up late. No reason given why they were late. -
I just passed a building with a sign advertising "fmd architects"! gees, and I thought lawyers were on the nose!

Talk about 5AA! The local Gold Coast rag doesn't have much interest in the opposition today either. Rested big guns return to Suns Suns' showdown for ruck hopefuls -
PRACTICE MATCH: CASEY SCORPIONS v FRANKSTON
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 18 players not in the squad for today's GCS game: 6. Chris Dawes (injured), 7. Jack Viney (injured) 9. Jack Trengove (injured), 11. Mitch Clark (injured), 17. Sam Blease (injured), 23. Josh Tynan, 25. Tom McDonald (injured), 28. Joel Macdonald, 33. Dominic Barry, 34. Dean Kent, 37. Max Gawn (injured), 41. Troy Davis, 43. Rory Taggert, 44. Rohan Bail (injured), 47 Tom Couch, 48. Some others might be carrying some niggles or will be rested today so Casey will start the season in much the same way as it usually ends for them - with very few AFL listed players. Expect a few more next week. -
NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE

... which is just as one might expect from a backwards state that has one less hour of sunlight every day of the summer and part of spring & autumn as a result of refusing to do the right thing by adopting daylight savings. ... and going by that signature of yours, I don't think it helps to weave your curtains out of banana skins. Have you been visiting the no T$ thread lately? -
NAB CHALLENGE: GOLD COAST SUNS v MELBOURNE
Whispering_Jack replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
G'day Vagg - and in between, perhaps a report on the players and the game?Just to clarify ... 11.30AM means 12.30PM in the civilized parts of the country like Melbourne, right? Cheers -
The NAB Cup's over and, despite the fact that it's not taken seriously by all and the system of deciding the grand finallists has its deficiencies, I would think the majority of people (barring Carlton supporters) would be pleased with the outcome. The Brisbane Lions took some pretty handy scalps with them on their way to the winning the silverware - Hawthorn, Collimgwood and finally Carlton who they exposed last night for both fitness and ability. I know you can't take all that much away from pre season competitions of this nature but I reckon the highlight for me was the overhyping of the Blues throughout the competition to the point where the pundits on the footy show (now there's an oxymoron for you) had them finishing on top of the ladder after 23 rounds, ahead of the Swans, Hawks, Eagles, Cats & Pies. Their road to the grand final was fascinating; they scraped in with a late surge against GWS, flogged two uninterested sides in the Swans and the visiting Dockers and lost to Adelaide (who had nothing to play for and put up stumps at ¾ time). The commentators were saying last night that they were at full strength except for Waite and Garlett and if that's the case, they're in trouble because they are Melbourne in reverse. They have a very good midfield (which didn't fire last night) a couple of good small forwards and nothing much else. They're in trouble as far as I'm concerned and if Richmond finally get their act into gear for an opening round game, the Blues could be staring at 0-4. Brisbane looked good. Some of their bit players are kicking on and they handled the game and the interchange rule far better than their opponents. They're a chance for the top 8 if they can keep that up. The other thing to come out of the NAB Cup to me is that the Hawks could be in trouble if their injuries continue to pile up. The Suns are improving but I still question the Giants who have stockpiled on young talent but don't appear to have the mature bodies and personnel around them to help them make the grade. As for Melbourne - we're taking some small steps after the clean out. The coach has made the bold moves that were definitely necessary after the tumultuous period that not only preceded him but "welcomed" him in his debut year at the helm. I'm sure he never expected it to be so hard for him to develop a team that he wanted to be the hardest team to play against.

Sometimes players from the out of Victorian States tend to fly under the radar but, over the past couple of weeks, 24 year old Dayne Zorko of the Brisbane Lions has recently taken over centre stage from my point of view. He was overlooked completely in the 2007 drafts after captaining the Queensland Under 18 side and went on to win four successive best and fairests at Broadbeach before he was drafted by the Lions. I thought he was BOG last night and his is no longer a new story after Barlow, Podsiadly and to a lesser extent our own James Magner but it seems to me that if Matt Jones can continue to impress, he can add something to our impoverished midfield. He has his chance to impress today.
