National Under 18 Championships - 2015
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for that CJ. Any idea why they didn't stream or televise the SA v Vic Country game last week given it was the feature match of the carnival to date? -
The thing I liked about watching last night's game was Dustin Martin. Three goals and over thirty touches wasn't enough to get Richmond across the line but having a human dynamo like him in your team doesn't hurt. It certainly whets the appetite for the day when one Christian Petracca finally steps onto the field wearing the red and blue.

North Ballarat v Casey Scorpions
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Roosters also have their share of injury problems - Roosters skipper out for vital Casey clash. -
My interest in these Friday night (and in the case of this week Thursday night) games, has risen considerably in the absence of one sided Carlton contests. They must be due for another one soon.

2015 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remain an optimist about how we will finish off our season but the chances are that we will finish bottom four or five. The chances are also that we will be raided by other clubs making huge offers for players like Jeremy Howe and perhaps Colin Garland and I can see us getting heavily involved trades. This also looks very much like a draft where you want to have a couple of picks at the pointy end in the top 10 and beyond that, who knows you might get a Nat Fyfe or a Luke Tapscott. Darcy Parish stands out to me as the player for Mrlbourne to get (have I said that before?) -

National Under 18 Championships - 2015
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Division 2 Championships kick off this week. The early favourite was NSW but injuries have hurt the cause. Here's a rundown of The 10 Division 2 players to watch in the Championships -
Our injury list was longer in 2009 and we were not only accused of tanking - we were charged with it and found guilty of employing a person who joked about tanking. So please, treat all discussion on this subject as deadly serious or you could cost the club $½m in fines and get the CEO and football manager sacked and Roosy banned.

Somebody said they were wearing the gold jumper in honour of flamboyant wrestler Dusty Rhodes who passed away earlier in the week. Who knows what goes through the minds of these ijits?

On behalf of the people, I have amended the team from the OP. All bases now covered. -
North Ballarat v Casey Scorpions
Whispering_Jack replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Correct - it happens on most weeks when a 7 man bench is announced. When Casey is playing at least a day after Melbourne it's a little different and of course they don't have to hold players over for the AFL games. That's not happening very often this year so the Scorpions can be at a slight disadvantage in their games. -

Hogan and Brayshaw won't be rested - good news. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12
Whispering_Jack replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 3.20 pm was the killer for me. Puts the game finish time at close to 6 pm on the shortest day of the year which means that if I stay to the end I'll be driving home on that dark godforsaken stretch of highway in a foul mood. Still, I hope the boys can hear me cheering them on from the loungeroom while I watch the game on Foxtel. -
Once upon a time they used to describe that sort of thing as incontrovertible evidence of "tanking" and "match fixing" and leading sports journalists like Mr. Mark Robinson would produce double page exposes on the subject. Others like Miss Wilson called it scandalous and demanded mass sackings at the club's highest level. We need to be careful about who we let into the vault to discuss these matters.

THE SAGA CONTINUES - WADA APPEALS
Whispering_Jack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
In order to fully understand the role of the AFL Integrity Officer you need to read George Orwell. I fully endorse that. Jim will seriously fulfill his role in reaching a fair and just decision and will be right on top of the evidentiary issues in this case (I'm sure that the other two will as well) and not be influenced by the vested interests of the sporting body or of the club involved. -

THE SAGA CONTINUES - WADA APPEALS

Text messages between Dank and Alavi about mixing Thymosin and AOD but I don't believe the AFL Tribunal was comfortably satisfied that Dank went as far as administering TB4 into the players' bodies. He just ordered the stuff from a Chinese supplier which manufactures TB4, bragged about it to the media until told it was S2 and talked to the compounding chemist about testing something on players but the Tribunal got him for something else. A bit like getting Al Capone for tax evasion but not for all of the other crimes he committed. -

Of course we do and I assume you mean supporters as well as players. I'm willing to bet that if Max Gawn's tap had ended up in a scrimmage with time running out before the ball got to the St. Kilda end, most of us would be celebrating the victory and few would have been critical as many are at the moment. Yes, it was a monumental stuff up and showed up a lack of organisation from the coaches and the team leaders but it was one (albeit important) passage of play in 100 minutes and I take a different view of the game which was one we would possibly have won with some more experienced players on the ground. Leaving aside the injured, we could have had Matt Jones, Rohan Bail and the Russian in the 22 instead of ANB, Billy and Max and we might have plucked the game out of the fire. But from a long term perspective, the decision to go with the younger players will pay its dividends well in the future. Despite the length of time we have suffered, we need to understand that a bit more short term pain will be offset by long term gain.

Who is the genius at the AFL who decided that GWS should wear the predominantly white guernsey against Collingwood? I would have thought their mainly orange number would have suited better as a clash strip myself.
