Ok - let’s stay on topic (MFC training) in this thread and in future training threads please.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - MITCH BROWN
The maximum list size is 47 which figure includes up to 3 Category B rookies. You don’t draft Category B rookies - you select them if they fit the criteria. The discussion about drafting is limited to the primary list and Category A rookies of which we can have a total of 44 (currently at 39).

PERMISSION TO TRAIN LIST 2019
Not training until after the drafts.
-
WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - MITCH BROWN
I don’t know how that’s possible without further delistings (unlikely) as we have 35 on the primary list and 4 rookies making 39 of a possible 44.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - MITCH BROWN
I’m not sure if this is serious. We only have a limited number of vacancies (5) to go into the draft with and one has been set aside for Harley Bennell. If we are chasing Brown then it might be a sign that things aren’t working out with Sam Murray.

TRAINING: Monday 11th November 2019
Since we drafted Finlayson and Langdon specifically to play on the wing, it might get very crowded there with Sparrow.

The Brilliance of Robbie Flower
One piece is never enough - you have to see him in colour too. This is from 1984 -

The Brilliance of Robbie Flower
I came across this YouTube video of the late, great Robbie Flower today. A wonderful person, a fantastic player and always a pleasure to watch. This is from his first season -

Pick 2 in the Preseason Draft
The problem with drafting him in the PSD is that he has to be entered into that draft and I don’t think that’s the case. Sokol will enter the national draft.

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Matt Balmer (Fox Sports) presents his Top 25 draft prospects: Future AFL stars headline class of 2019 If the selections at the draft meeting follow his Top 25, the Demons will select - 3. Hayden YOUNG “Clubs: Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country Position: Medium Defender Size: 188cm, 83kg Bio: Young’s standout trait is his biggest weapon, with the left footer able to slice through opposition teams exceptionally well. His vision to find targets out of the back half makes him a top pick, with a number of outstanding highlights coming in the Under 18 Championships. The 18-year-old averaged 22 disposals and 5.3 marks during the carnival, playing behind the ball and controlling the play for Vic Country. He has remained consistent in the back-half of the year, with three consecutive strong outings against the Dragons, Power and Ranges — collecting 25 or more touches in each game. Young is also a strong intercept mark and reads the play well.” 8. Brodie KEMP “Clubs: Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country Position: Utility Size: 192cm, 89kg Bio: A ruptured ACL ended Kemp’s season in July, just as the 18-year-old was looking to push his case to be a top-five selection. Kemp’s Under 18 Championships were exceptional, finding a role up forward as he booted the matchwinning goal against South Australia. He has the capabilities to play down back and through the midfield, averaging 20 disposals and 6.5 marks during the carnival. Kemp wants to be a midfielder in the future and given his 192cm heights, clubs will certainly be watching him closely as they consider selecting the Vic Country prospect with a top-ten pick.”

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
A little while ago, I referred to Big Footy’s Pie4Life and his power rating chart. He has recently updated and expanded it to his top 60:-

Deven Robertson (Drafted by Brisbane)
Deven Robertson attracting top-10 interest ahead of AFL Draft after being likened to Joel Selwood “Robertson is more mature than your average 18-year-old – and it’s easy to see why the natural-born leader was named All-Australian captain after an impressive under-18 national championships for Western Australia.”

Poll: Who do you want with our first two picks?
Conventional wisdom among the draft cognoscenti is that the draft’s top ten is strong and the talent pool tapers off badly after that. If that’s right then 7, 8 and 10 sounds good, especially when looking at our recent experience with players drafted around 3/4 like Cale Morton and Jimmy Toumpas. As I said, it’s a pity we can’t travel in time.
-
Poll: Who do you want with our first two picks?
No. By the time the 2008 draft came around Cyril Rioli was, as you point out, a premiership player with Hawthorn. Cyril was actually taken in the 2007 draft and it’s debatable that he was “clearly” the best in his draft which produced Brownlow Medal winners Trent Cotchin and Patrick Dangerfield and the likes of Alex Rance and Harry Taylor. Still, given that we took Cale Morton that year, if we all had the benefit of hindsight, we might well have burned the place down ? but that’s the thing about drafting. We can’t travel in time (yet).

THE DRAFT POOL
With the drafts coming up later in the month, this looks like an excellent resource for those interested in the list of available players ~ AFL DRAFT CENTRAL: 2019 Draft Pool

Cyril Rioli
Possibly because that “retired” player took part in a game of football less than 24 hours ago and, at the age of 30, it’s not inconceivable that someone that age might be convinced to make a comeback?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
ROOKIE LIST: CATEGORY A Kade Chandler Kyle Dunkley Jay Lockhart Corey Wagner ROOKIE LIST: CATEGORY B Austin Bradtke
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
As per the previous posts, a rookie spot is all that would be required to secure Bennell so Geelong could reach the same deal as the one suggested. In fact, a sign that Melbourne might be edging closer to such a deal could be the upgrading of a current rookie to the primary list.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Essentially, this is what is being suggested that Melbourne wants to do with Bennell by having him agree to train with the club with a view to selecting him as a pre-season supplemental selection in March 2020 in the same way as we took Jay Lockhart as a rookie in March this year. Obviously, as part of the deal, he would have to reach the club’s required standards of fitness and conduct in that time.
