  1. I doubt this will happen - it has already been suggested that it will involve a swap of draft picks as well - but it could well stir the pot where the Dockers are concerned. This very much depends on how Jesse Hogan looks at the situation given that the Gold Coast might present the new start in his life that he’s been looking for as a result of the difficult times he’s recently experienced in his life.
  2. No wonder the SA clubs are falling over each other to get high draft picks. AFL Draft Power Rankings: SA jet surges to No. 2
  3. As I recall, we didn’t have too many good players on the day.
  4. • Fremantle appear to be out of the running for Dees spearhead Jesse Hogan. Their football operations manager stated late today that the club will be ceasing their pursuit of the dynamic tall forward because, "what Melbourne would be seeking for a trade would not be possible for our club to meet." (In other words, the Demons refused to consider their shake down deal). • This could change the landscape of the NAB AFL Trade Period, with Melbourne potentially now out of the race for Steven May. • Tom Scully has announced that he wishes to be traded from the Giants to Hawthorn and has completed a medical with the Hawks. • When it came to deals done, Dean Kent made his way to St Kilda, and Dom Tyson and Braydon Preuss completed a straight swap. • The Blues landed another ex-Giant, with Will Setterfield heading to Carlton (along with pick 71) in exchange for pick 43 and a 2019 second round pick. • Premiership Swan Dan Hannebery joined the Saints on a five-year deal, with St Kilda trading pick 39 and its future second-round pick in return for Hannebery and pick 28.
  5. I'm not sure if this has been fully played out but I am sure that we being the public are not privvy to all of the machinations of this saga. However, if Jess Hogan remains at the club for 2019 then I would hope that there is a concerted effort on the part of the club to retain him for longer than one season and that will depend on the professionalism of the club and its employees which includes the playing group. On playing ability alone however, we know what he's worth - this is not a good start for Peter Bell and the administration at Fremantle who, based on what I've seen, have conducted themselves deplorably.
  6. • The news that Dayne Beams wishes to return to Victoria and play for Collingwood dominated today on NAB AFL Trade Radio. While he has not yet requested a trade, Beams would like to get back to the Magpies if a trade can be worked out. • Collingwood still has some waiting to do with defender Tom Langdon, who is yet to recommit to the club. Sydney and Fremantle are going hard at the 24-year-old, and that in turn is delaying Dan Hannebery’s wish to be traded to be St Kilda. Many felt that trade was set to happen today, but Saints fans should still be confident in the deal getting done. • Port Adelaide traded into the top 10 of the draft as part of their likely bid to land the best South Australian talent in the country. They handed over picks 11, 23 and 30 to Fremantle to get their hands on pick six. The Dockers will likely use these selections to help pick up Rory Lobb and potentially Jesse Hogan.
  7. Perhaps it should have read giving “up”.
  8. • Six players found new homes today as the action started to heat up. • The biggest move of the day saw Adelaide’s Mitch McGovern land at Carlton, with help from Sydney. The Crows got their hands on pick 13 from the Swans as part of the deal, who in turn received picks to help them land father-son prospect Nick Blakey. • McGovern officially joins Blues in the three-team trade, and Saints agree to send Hickey to West Coast with the Eagles giving us their second-round pick. • Sydney also acquired North Melbourne midfielder Ryan Clarke as part of another three-way deal. The second aspect of the trade allowed Gary Rohan to get to Geelong. • The Roos lost Clarke, but gained Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard, exchanging pick 11 to the Power for the duo.
  9. Life just got a little bit less complicated for our recruiters. And now for ...
  10. • Dylan Shiel finally nominated his destination of choice - Essendon after being courted by Hawthorn, Carlton and St Kilda. • Terry Wallace believes the Bombers’ first round selection (pick nine) and their 2019 first round pick would be what he’d consider a fair trade. • GWS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell confirmed North Melbourne’s interest in defender Jeremy Finlayson, but added other clubs are still in the mix. • Scott Lycett officially joined Port Adelaide today, with West Coast electing not to match their offer.
  11. I know Solly and he's not a lawyer. He's a dentist.
  12. • Several quick transactions got the 2018 AFL trade period underway today with three moves on day one. • Brisbane acquired Lincoln McCarthy from Geelong for pick 42 and an exchange of fourth round selections. • The Cats then on-traded pick 42 to Carlton for the rights to state-league player Nathan Kreuger from the SANFL. • Meanwhile, Richmond traded midfield pair Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis to the Gold Coast, along with a future third round pick. They’ll receive the Suns’ 2019 third rounder in return. • The Tigers also unveiled Tom Lynch in a Richmond guernsey with the restricted free agent officially joining the club today. • GWS pair Rory Lobb and Will Setterfield requested trades to Fremantle and Carlton respectively. Lobb has previously stated his desire to return home to Western Australia, while the Blues and Bombers jostled to win Setterfield’s nomination.

  14. Sunday Round up: • Andrew Gaff knocks back North Melbourne's offer and stays at the Eagles.
  15. Q: What's the difference between a lawyer and God? A: God doesn't think he's a lawyer.
  16. Mr. Leg, Remember the bet we made about someone attempting an old third rate lawyer joke? I win. You’re f.....d!
  17. The Jake Best who I remember playing for Casey was a small forward. If he’s been picked at full back then I guess they don’t have too many key position size players up there on the Tiwi Islands?
  18. We’re in a restaurant and Redleg is about to order the banana fritters. After he eats it, he’ll be f.....d.
  19. Quiet day at the office • Port Adelaide has officially lodged paperwork to secure West Coast premiership ruckman Scott Lycett on a five-year, $3million deal; • Reports have been confirmed that Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis are set to leave Richmond, the Tigers are not expecting much back in a trade.
  20. Correct - you can have 3 category B rookies (but only one can be in the Irish recruit category). Problem is that Melbourne has shunned the Irish experiment that produced such greats as the late Jimmy Stynes and Sean Wight. I raised it a couple of years ago at a club function about recruiting and was told that at least at that time, there was little interest.
  21. Combine wrap: Strong results sees some bolters
  22. Austin Wonaeamirri is still running around in the NTFL for the Tiwi Bombers and has been named to play on a half back flank in today’s season opener against Wanderers at TIO Stadium, Darwin. The team:- B: 23. Kim Kantilla – 24. Jake Best – 7. Ross Tungatalum HB: 39. Austin Wonaeamirri – 3. Dion Munkara – 30. Aaron Daniels ? 21. Tom Schneider – 16. Harmit Singh – 6. Patrick Heenan HF: 11. Norman Pangiraminni – 19. Michael Wilson – 29. James Warlipinni I love the way that some of those player’s names just roll off the tongue.
  23. Knightmare’s Phantom Drafts always make good reading and, of course, will take on more significance if Melbourne can trade into a 2018 first round pick and then keep it until the draft takes place. Chris Doerre's first round AFL Phantom Draft
  24. Some good judges have Smith as a top 5 pick.
