Outside 50? I'm sure a limit of maybe 35 or 40m kicking range is essential. But if a player can kick passes of 30m with amazing accuracy, successfully mark or tackle whenever the ball is within 10m or convert every ground ball into a teammate's possession maybe long kicks don't matter.

Maybe we lose the GF to Bulldogs in heartbreaking fashion which makes 2022 a lot harder and then upon bouncing back in 2023 have extra pressure from the 21 GF loss and the dip the next year and now being 59 years into the drought lose a 2nd GF in 3 years and by last year are copping way more flak than the premiership-winning team that just got bundled out in straight sets twice. And who knows, go back a year to the end of 2022 and in this scenario off "that" GF loss and the recent 10th finish Nibbla and Kozzie leave and our [censored] board sack Goody. It may well have been sweeter beating Collingwood in 23 GF in a parallel universe. But I'll take what we got, thanks.

But did anyone know Brown would be a lost (injured) cause a couple of years later, or that a player that didn't quite make it went even worse at a second club but somehow would then improve miles at a 3rd club? Surely such a turnaround is very rare.
