Time to go Goody?
I think that's an oversimplification. Our list is alright. Certainly better than bottom 4 where we are currently placed. We've had a few injuries but nothing extreme. Others have certainly had it worse. Bulldogs have had far worse injuries than us and have handled themselves pretty well.

Training Ground?
I don't really get the Port Melbourne thing. Surely the Boroughs aren't looking to sell their ground.

The Logan Morris Thread
They had Reid at 10 so I wouldn't be putting too much stock in that.

The Logan Morris Thread
Is he homesick? Having a great start to his career. 2 goals a game average for a 19 year old key forward is nothing to sneeze at. Would cost at least a mid first rounder.

Training Ground?
Makes sense that he'd do a round of interviews while it's fresh news. I'd be disappointed if we had to wait six months just to hear from him. I'm still disappointed that we have to wait that long for him to actually start.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Odd that this wasn't mentioned in the club statements last night...

The Quarters Ladder
We haven't won a single last quarter for the year, right?

Looking forward to hearing Maher ask a question for half an hour.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
I was always under the impression that he was a Melbourne person but I could be wrong. I know very little about Guerra so I'm going to reserve judgement for a while. I'm looking forward to hearing more about him and from the man, himself. I'd be keen to know how he presented to the board and what set him apart from the candidates to land himself the job.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Such a bizarre story to be made up and get reported on. Seems like Morris didn't cross-check his mail.

I feel like the final requirement is the most important for us right now. Cameron Schwab met the first three fwiw.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Not sure about Richo. Had the footy boss job thrust upon him and never really seemed cut out for it. Josh Mahoney was Peter Jackson's favourite to take over after him a while back though. A footy boss getting the top job would give a decent amount of industry experience that would work in their favour but they might need to learn more of the business side, just as a CEO from outside the industry would need to learn about the AFL industry. Don't think either option is inherently superior to the other.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Footy boss to club CEO is a pretty common pathway. Makes sense as they are basically running the most important aspect of the organisation.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Surely it's pragmatic to appoint someone who has racing industry links over someone who is going to potentially rock the boat with some of the stakeholders due to an issue that has nothing to do with football.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Doesn't take much to get a good review during pre-season. He is clearly not as lean as he was when he was in career best form. He might be doing everything right when he's at the club but he may not be doing all the extra little things away from the club that he was doing a few years back. He's been starting on the bench the past couple of weeks and losing minutes in the midfield to other players. He's down in the pecking order right now.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
I think Oliver's biggest issue right now is that he isn't fit enough. 78% game time is well below what he was doing at his best when it was 88% on average, also think he has lost a bit of pace and power. Doesn't explode out of contest like he used to. I'm not sure if there's a good reason why he couldn't get that fitness base back though.

TRAINING: Monday 28th April 2025
Halfway to the bye and a trip to Perth is about a good a time as any to rest Gawn.

Next Generation
Not worried about who rucks after Max. We'll find someone servicable to do the job. Key forwards and key backs much bigger issues.

Melbourne Football Club - The CEO
Wasn't this due to be wrapped up by the end of the month? Feels like things have gone silent.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Anyway if Cats reckon Oliver completes them then they can probably do better than offering us a late first rounder in a compromised draft.

I really enjoy First Crack but not sure why Jay Clark is on it. It's supposed to be a post round game analysis show. Surely there are enough footy shows where journos give us their hot takes already.

Time to go Goody?
Hawthorn sacked Clarkson with a year on his contract. Carlton sacked Teague with a year left on his contract. Neither would have had the Covid discount the AFL put in for a few clubs.

Time to go Goody?
Yes I understand that, but there is no way he's getting $1.6m next year a good chunk of that would be his remaining payments for this season. If he got sacked this year whatever he is to be paid this year doesn't really matter (It's unlikely he would be sacked until late in the year anyway). His salary next year would be the thing that would be more of a challenge to deal with but a team paying out a coaches contract for a year is hardly unheard of.

Time to go Goody?
How much of that is this year and how much of that is next year?

Time to go Goody?
$500k was the starting point for a senior coach fifteen years ago. A lot more money in the game now. I would be surprised if there were many senior coaches on less than $600k these days.
