2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
2021 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think we wait and see who slips through to our first pick. We could be pleasantly surprised. If not, we still have options. We should be fine at 6, and I'm sure we had a good plan when we traded up to 11. -

Didn’t mention Leake, in regards to our first pick -

Also, Cal thought pick 1 would be traded to North. This would mean WC would be taking Curtin, which would leave us with Sanders or Watson. That would be a great result at our first pick, and I would expect it to be Sanders. -

Just watched the "Gettable" podcast. In terms of the Dees 1st pick, Cal said we would wait to see who was left out of: Curtin / Sanders / Watson. He also said we would have an eye on Caddy (as he is a forward) and Windsor (who he described as the "flyer"). -
Don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned here, and I’m not saying it’s my opinion, but I remember someone saying that we might try to trade up, to get ahead of the Watson pick, so we can draft him.
-
I know on Gettable, Cal said every club had talked to Leake, but has Cal specifically mentioned MFC anywhere?
-
- 1st pick: Caddy (when Watson is still available, I don’t agree with that) - 2nd pick: Leake

Yeah I think think this is how it will play out, if we don’t trade. -

I think at 6 we may just wait, and take whoever is left from that top tier. That said, JT does like to do his own thing, so we could we'll end up with someone unexpected. -
Gone from being 100% sure he's staying next season to 99% sure. Will be glad to see him a Dees player at the end of the Trade Period tomorrow night.

Which pick?

I think Sanders might be available at 6 anyway

Seems like we will take whoever is left, out of the initial talented group (with our first pick). Should be interesting to see how it plays out. You would suspect we will end up with one of Sanders or Watson, or even with Curtin as a smokey. -
Have been hoping we would draft Watson all along, believing we were never really going to get Reid. He would be great to watch, and would have instant impact round goals.

I think we should find out about the compo pick tomorrow -
Thanks for that. Does anyone have the Herald Sun article?
-
Summary please
-
Would be a great get. Would def. fit our needs.
-
Sounding like we’re adding a ruck & pick 10 so far
-
The other day on a podcast Cal said if the Dogs get pick 4, then us & North are a chance to go after GC pick 10
-
Where picks being pushed back hurts us, is their points value gets worse, if we are trying to trade for pick 4, for example
-
Also apparently it was Tom Morris who said this, not Riley. Also, one again, the following quote wasn' mine but from DL: The AFL also gave North the right to an additional two rookies on the list - a measure aimed at allowing the club to keep younger players while bringing in more mature talent. Sources familiar with the AFL’s draft assistance package for the Kangaroos said the future picks had to be used in trades this year or they would cease to exist. North Melbourne have not had the problem of key players leaving the club.
