What they're saying down at Windy Hill (Pregame)
Skuit replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
And there's your answer if you've ever been curious as to what the plural of Petracca is. Still not clear however if intended as plurale tantum or an irregular plural though. Anyone know if Trac has a brother on our list? Maybe an easy mistake: I'm pretty confident that we have the most ever brothers on our list with brothers by number playing in the AFL. -
This is a great shot Bing. Demonstrates how difficult footy is and how important back-line cohesion is. Swap the colours and the outcome to an intercept mark and everyone is annoyed that our boys didn't compete and held off looking for a cheapie. Split-second decisions. We were playing in front. How many games have these three played together in the back-line? Smith first game down back in however long? I know it has been going on for years. Here's the thing. Everyone is angry that Goodwin and co. haven't coached it out of them. But the anti-Goodwin brigade should be even angrier, furious even - he has been coaching it into them. At least on three occasions over the past couple years I can recall players saying that Goodwin has told them to back themselves to leave their man and get across. He wants most of this to happen. We just need to be better at it. And hopefully gel and trust. Would love to watch the footage again and see if there was any hesitation from any of ours. It's a bold move to fly while your man stays on the ground and needs total confidence and commitment.

I should have phrased it better. Fans aren't asking for a rebuild. But by demanding Goody's scalp they will get another compromised one.
-
Outside of the bolded the rest aren't likely to contribute to a flag (Melksham I don't know). If we get close it will depend on what the remainders contribute on the day of any given final. That is: they can't even be relied on to just fulfil a role. I doubt any other club has a list of seniors that looks anything like this. And it dates back through multiple coaches. Bailey set out on a rebuild and we pulled the plug and went for another rebuild. By the time Roos came on board he had to stem the tide rather than set off on another complete rebuild, and so brought in some experience at the expense of additional young talent. Compromised rebuilds. That rolls on to today. Fans are asking for it to happen again.

I’ve been with Goody from the start. I can see his qualities as a coach, and they’re the ones I think are important in contemporary football. I don’t always agree with his decisions but I can also recognise the logic in certain ones. Something I have failed to properly understand but which I think he does is that we are still in the process of a rebuild, due to the depths that we fell into in the past and the longer-term structural issues around our list that it has caused. That’s why he continues to act as if in teaching mode. Jones TMac Melksham Jetta One might be forgiven for thinking that was a list of our bottom four players on the weekend, whereas it’s our four most experienced players. The next two in line – May had a stinker and Hibberd was dropped. I’m afraid four of those six may be just about done. If we can’t get consistent input from senior players then our rebuild has a few more years to run yet. Take a look at the AFLCA votes for example and you will see 150+game players almost across the board. We have a crew of 80-game players carrying our team. This is a serious generational issue, and it’s a difficult one to address and manage. Goody has to find a way to bridge the gap between ailing seniority and the development of youngsters while building a winning culture. Thus juggling to find a way to manage the short- and long-term. Through that lens, you can maybe see why Harmes is at half-back. Jones is the most damaging forward among our midfield group and looked promising in the pre-season. A few extra goals from Harmes across a season is hardly going to make a difference to our fortunes. You can appreciate perhaps why Jackson was drafted and selected early if you think or were aware that TMac’s body is shot. We desperately need to blood this kid now. Goodwin already pulled the trigger on one senior player for a debutante in Rivers. It seems to have paid off. Calling for the heads of senior players is all good and fine, but that can breed cultural issues and then we also have a bunch of 80-gamers leading the new kids on field. Those complaining about Goodwin and culture probably also complained about James McDonald being let go. Firing Goodwin is a bad path, and it probably can’t be done now anyway. He’s grappling with the same issues that we are on here. How to get something out of TMac and Jones? How to forward-plan for our KPFs? Should Meksham or Jetta be dropped? What are the repercussions?

These are the exact and only stats I looked up this week. It was an issue in 2017 and I believe we lost close games due to it (and thus missed the finals). Then in the off-season they got Hogan and Gawn ultra slim and fit. In early 2018 suddenly we were top two for contested marks from memory. It's not the pack-marks. It's the outlet and release valves at half-back and on the wings which are needed. Edit: apologies to @Wiseblood who had already noted we were second for CM in 2018.

Sorry OD. Was talking about the upcoming corresponding match vs. the Bombers. I recall some time last year TMac going back and me being as frustrated as ever. But can't place the match.
-
Can someone help with my memory? In the corresponding game last year, my recollection is that Goodwin did the following; Ran Melksham through the centre bounces early where he was forced to apply some effort and had an immediate impact. Sent TMac down back in the second quarter after which we went on a seven-goal blitz.

Hey My name is legion. Did you watch the first quarter?

The difference was that is was two crap teams going at half pace. We showed we were capable today.

I think this is most infuriated I have ever been after a game of football. Definitely after a win, except for maybe Gold Coast last year and I think Brisbane circa 2016. Thank you for reminding me of some of the positives from this game DZ. Rivers was fantastic. Trac showed he's ready to be a super-star of the competition. Oliver is close. Goodwin/MFC nearly manufactured a scoreless half against the opposition. Does he get credit for that or just blame for our capitulation? Where's all the ANB and Hunt haters tonight? I'm angry but i still love my football team. Go Dees!

Neogilistic portmanteau fail. I may be a bit excitable at the moment.

I had a crumpet for the first time in probably thirty years. Hoping it's not a omentaphor for our defensive structure.

The top ten things I would like to see during this game to make me feel better about MFC 2020: 1) Luke Jackson commit one act of brutality and at least one demonstration of unprecedented athleticism. 2) Harley Bennell not to pull up with a ping. Like whatever the opposite of that is. 3) One or hopefully more of Viney, Petracca or Oliver to turn it on as if other-worldly possessed. 4) Eddie Betts frustrated and complaining to the umpires and funny shorts. 5) I like Levi Casboult. I don't mind if he kicks a goal at some stage. But balanced by a hideous miss. 6) Some sort of space-time continuum malfunction where Pickett runs out with the team and no one mentions it. 7) Melksham to show that he cares and then does something about it. 8) Football journalists drafting articles on how Fritsch is actually the best key forward in the game. 9) Lots of goals. Preferably a mix of boring ones and exciting ones. TMac can have all the boring ones. 10) Steven May to kick the best kick that ever happened. An 80-meter stab-pass maybe.

The harshest words a parent can speak: I'm not angry. Just disappointed.

They forgot the mighty Thomas Bugg.

Yippee ki-yay my mother-[censored] weirdo MFC internet family. I love you all. So excited to open Demonland and see a gameday thread - whereas before I would avoid them like the plague.

I still can't comprehend both Hutchy and the existence of Hutchy. I need someone to explain it to me. I can get away with being drunk at my job, but I'm not on the TV or the radio. How does this work? Is there not HR at SEN?

Sounds like a [censored]-up of New Coke proportions. I'm probably more toward the hipster end of the bogan-craft beer scale, but the one thing I always miss when overseas is a VB or Carlton Draught from the tap. I arrived back in Oz on the day of the lock-down, so no go. But I did notice the diminished status of both beers at the bottle shop and had wondered what happened. This somewhat explains it I guess.

I'm new to Australia. What happened to VB?
-
Probably best left forgotten, but I know your sadist mate Uncle Bitters will get a kick from the refresher - so here you go:

Round 2 the Harley Bennell vs Jack Martin show? How many more goals than Bennell does Martin have to kick to justify the difference in outlay? By my calculations its at least 50 to Bennell's one.

The Bali clash was in 2017 Moon. Although I do agree.
