  1. You agree with LH or with me? Personally, I need subtitles whenever Clarry opens his mouth, and I don't think he much enjoys being in front of the camera. I love him to bits, but I don't think he'll ever get close to the official captaincy - which today is as much an off-field role as on. The fact that Jack Viney has him easily covered for eloquence speaks volumes. Here's a sample from our own website, which would present a challenge for most transcribers: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/238959/clarry-s-life-burgers-swimming-and-fifa
  2. Haha Daisy - I'm one of the most positive blokes on here. Had us pencilled in for a four goal win before corona.
  3. I'm not ignoring the umpiring bias Pates but I think it's being overstated on here (at least where it concerns us). Our last outing there we won the free kick count, which doesn't mean much but it's what a lot of people point to - and I even recall us getting the rub in that crucial late-season win in 2018. Much prefer the uniform bias out west than the seemingly personal with Nicholls. What I think is being wildly understated however is the crowd influence on the players, whether it's boos or cheering. Levels of alertness and adrenaline for elite performers simply require that noise. We all know that rush in ourselves when the crowd roars, and even as just a spectator I'm expecting to be bored witless watching the game for three hours with no cheering. So my conclusion was based on both teams being rather flat - contesting in a glorified training run. They are presently the better team, don't have to travel across a continent, and I presume get to train at that ground or at least know it far better than us. I believe these are the deciding factors with the hype of the crowd taken out of the equation - the hype which I think is especially important for us. So in my opinion the lack of crowd favours them, even when factoring for the ordinary crowd/umpiring advantage. I wouldn't back us to travel over there and win a pre-season game (see 2017?), and this is exactly what it will feel like if not worse. Also of further note: many believe the West Coast bias stems from the umpires being mates with the players as much as the crowd influence.
  4. For those sticking to the narrower topic and celebrating an empty Optus in curtailing crowd and umpiring influence - I think you are all rather misguided. I can't be bothered with a statistical analysis - but remember how we're always complaining the the MFC loses the unloseable? It's usually in front of mostly empty stadiums at far flung locales (including Marvel). I'd suggest our big game record in recent times is probably better than our smaller stadium efforts, and we have in fact fared relatively well in Perth over the last three or so years. The MFCSS part: apparently we've been training with blaring music to mimic a game-day scenario, and so now what? I was optimistic heading into round one, but with no crowd I'm expecting a flat MFC and an at least six goal loss. This crowd ban favours them.
  5. The latest installment of Demonland/Demonland Demonland: Melbourne are crap! Somebody else: Melbourne are crap Demonland: Somebody else is crap!
  6. I gave 45 cents to the guy who made my coffee at the airport today. But I really should have tasted it first. Still, early clubhouse leader.
  7. Spelling errors like these remind me that I'm still not yet a mature adult.
  8. Would have been nice if someone had intercepted Brandon Zerk-Thatcher's parents en route to the birth registration office.
  9. Essendon. Always felt the yucky Nazi vibes from their black and red. And then they started with the human drug testing.
  10. Cheers man. I really do appreciate you taking the time to respond and clarify. Who was that bloke running around with the headband then?
  11. Cheers dee-tox. It's nice to get a response from a vetted source. If we didn't miss our season pre-brief I would have probably expressed confidence for the season ahead - and that we can kick winning scores - but with reservations re. our contested marking talls. The on-field to date hasn't done much to allay these concerns. Hopefully Jackson can come one quick-smart.
  12. Crazy-busy emergency-what-not so only got a glancing look at the highlights - but it seemed like Hunt was in everything Elsewhere, May looked super-rusty and Frtitsch seems to be edging toward the super-star status I've been quietly expecting. Jackwho is my new nickname for Bailey. I think he may be about to break the mould - can't think of a ready comparison. My questions for those who did watch - did Petracca follow-up or was he maybe taking it easy? Was May actually [censored]? Also - the TMac-Weid-Jackson-Brown nexus - do we have issues? Can these be overcome by our mid-fleet on a reg basis?
  13. Vanders strikes again! Living out his rehab revenge fantasies.
  14. Although a professional sports journalist should have a better overview of the league, it's likely that most on here would have a far better gauge on our club than this lot (albeit with greater biases). All else being equal, the simple maths can paint a picture. If professional life consists of 40 hours per week, divide that by 18, and a footy journo has a little over two hours to dedicate to each team per week. Most tragics on here would invest more time than that on the Demons per day. Factor the additional time on the weekends, and it's the equivalent of at least a part-time job dedicated to learning about a single club.
  15. My memory - which isn't remotely reliable - was that it was from a big tackle v the Crows, maybe on Jacobs during that famous win in 2017. And demonstrates some of his worth off hb not currently being credited.
  16. Gawn looks like he's demonstrating our lack of premiership trophy to hold up.
  17. I haven't forgotten who Petty is. This bloke right? (Just Josh'n with you 58er - my apologies)
  18. You can delete the irrelevant parts from the quote to shorten the length. So long as you don't drastically alter the meaning I think it's mostly okay.
  19. First you reply curtly toward another poster and now you harry me in response?
  20. Seems a rather harsh assessment of Yung Blood's fairly positive contribution.
  21. Except that he actually seems to have been suspended by Twitter, which based on Drumph's ongoing efforts must take the bigliest immaturity in history for that to ever occur. Although, after scanning the site's guidelines, the suspension of Christian's account may have been due to his Dusty impression on the weekend. Among the Twitter rules: "Impersonation: You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations in a manner that is intended to or does mislead, or confuse others." The Crows seem pretty confused.
  22. To tiers, There's a quote function located on the left-hand side below each post. You can also add an @ symbol before a poster's name to get their attention. Like this @tiers. Yours sincerely, Skuit.
  23. An article floating around somewhere said he had previously deactivated it for a period to focus on footy. Maybe he's gone that way again - via 'suicide-by-cop' to avoid the temptation of returning?
  24. I don't want to be a downer Pates, but so did St Kilda, Western, and Gold Coast - all of which struggled to kick goals for the most part of last year. Meanwhile, last year's two highest scoring teams - Geelong and Brisbane - notched sub-80 scores.
