  1. people have him pinned to Brisbane bc he is a QLDer and was captain of Qld under 18 team...maybe he would like to head home, or maybe Brisbane would like to have a homegrown talent added to their list if they see him making a contribution. Brisbane this year have really only had J.Brown as a big bodied forward this year. Brennan has been played their with inconsistent success, but with Brown being forced to play closer to goal, perhaps they could use Miller 80m from goal... who knows...though i tend to agree it doesnt seem that Brisbane really need him...Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs with their current structure seem better fits to me
  2. the weird thing is, that looking at that current sandy team....they would be really competative if they played the selected MFC team to play freo this week. they lack abit of class...but i would be really interested to watch sandy vs Melb currently. just shows how [censored] we're travelling atm with injuries
  3. Well said demons 32... none of know how other club recruiters will access our players, we can only speculate. I strongly think that Miller, with a bit of clever coaching and hard work, could become a really good player for another club. i see the Western Bulldogs as a good fit, they could really use a big bodies, strong leading forward at CHF to help with their quick, lean running players. Port Adelaide is another one. Tredrea is declining, and i see Miller as a better version of Damon White. i reckon we could be offered a 3rd rounder would be fair (around pick 40ish) and would be a win-win for both clubs. Miller has no place in our current structure and has been taken over by Bate, Newton and Sylvia as hard leading half forward flankers.
  4. i think people are under valuing Brad Miller of the Afl trade market. of coarse he isnt worth much! obviously! however, he could be a legitimate sweetener to a deal, and a few clubs would look at him for a 3rd round pick. Miller= 194cm strong, athlete, extermely hard working key position player. 70 games experience at only 22 years old. he has shown (vs fremantle elimination final, and his first 2-3 season of afl) that he has some of the attributes to be moulded into a good player undert the right envt. i honestly believe miller could become a good player at a different club. he just doesnt fit into our team and because he's been in and out of the seniors he has now lost all touch. most clubs would see something in miller. - also...bruce is 28. he has no leadership skills, and despite being a fantastic footballer, his possessions do NOT hurt the opposition. he is, however, extremely highly rated in afl circles as an elite footballer and thus has trade value. i would much rather pick 5 in the draft to get an 18 yr old potential captain/star than bruce considering we will not be vying for a premiership in the next 2 years.
  5. funnily enough i agree with YM on both those trades. (i dont think ive eva agreed with YM before haha). I would sign up Sheedy as coach for sure. i assume we have pick 2,18,20,36,52,68 TRADE PERIOD: Bruce and pick 36 FOR pick 7-10 (most probably to Western Bulldogs, Stkilda or Collingwood) Brad Miller (QLDer) + pick 18 + pick 52 FOR Cameron Wood (brisbane) + pick 58 Mark Jamar FOR pick 50ish (any club that will take him... i honestly suspect someone will) DRAFT PERIOD: pick 2: Cotchin/ Morton pick 10: Rys Palmer/ McEvoy (if he's available) pick20: Best Ruckman Availabel pick 50ish: ??? pick 58: ??? pick 68: ??? PSD: ??? INS: 8 players: Cameron Wood (10 yr number 1 ruckman) Cotchin Palmer Pick 20, 50ish, 58, 68 PSD OUTS:8 players Bizzel (retired) Warnock Neville Brown (retired) Pickett (retired) Jamar (traded) Miller (traded) Bruce (traded) (Nb: Ward, Holland, Ferguson are the borderline players i kept on the list bc they are necessary depth.) Conclusion: We bring in a 10 yr ruckman to replace White long-term, and bring in 2 absolute gun midfielders to add to our stock pile. pick 20 and lower to be used on utilities and KPP, or maybe even use pick 10 on a guy like Henderson if he slips down the order. We lose Bruce, which sux, but of all our senior players he is most expendable because he has poor leadership and his possessions are NOT damaging. Jamar and Miller are dead wood cut off and overall bring in a crop of players under 20 for our aging 30 somethings.
  6. Godfrey is injured as well...isnt playing at sandy.... so that neville and weetra the only ones not selected in the 22 or as emergencies... honestly u gotta be feelin the pressure if u were neville
  7. I do not think ruckman are overated...it has been bloody obvious that a good 2-team ruck devision is vital to premiership success. just look at recent premiers. Cox/ Seaby, Ball/Jolly, Lade/Brogan... Sydney wouldnt have won their premiership in 2005 had it not been for Ball's deft tapwork in the sydney forward line (reminder: Nick Davis' goal). However, i believe that a midfield that knows how to get clearences is just as important. I honestly believe that if we had Kerr and Foley in our team, White would have the same amount of hitouts, but we'd have double the amount of clearences...getting a midfield clearence is a skill.
  8. i think its fair to say that any players that arent injured and arent playing firsts are either gonna delisted next year or are in severe development mode. players not chosen and arent injured: Bizzel, Warnock, Neville, Garland and Weetra (Garland and Weetra first year rookies so theyre let off) Bizzel, Warnock and Neville...is there any surer sign that these guyz are the first 3 going to be delisted at years end? sorry but if players arent getting chosen with so many injuries they are GAWN.
  9. statistics may not tell the full story, but the bombers have been average for 6 years now, and they have had 4 out-n-out champions in their side (hird, lucas, lloyd, fletcher). most clubs dream for one champion. the question remains...y has EFC been so average over the last few years? some would justifiably argue it is because sheedy has lost his edge as a coach.
  10. i like the fact that they arent simply jumping at sheedy bc he is a big name. since 2001 he has had a 40% win/loss ratio...up until then his record had been extraordinary. why have the last 5-6 years been so average for the bombers? Especially considering they have had champion players like Hird, Lloyd, Fletcher and Lucas playing during this period. MFC doesnt have 1 chamption, Essendon have 4 yet they have still not performed well of late. i also think sheedy's drafting has been somewhat questionable of late. for example, why pick up heffernan, cole and camporeale? my worries about this aspect have been put to rest when looking at last years drafting however. The bombers were the best performed team at drafting last year in the afl. They picked up Gumbleton, Jetta, Hislop, Davey, Houli and Riemers all in the one draft. an unbelievable effort. i personally think sheedy should be given a go. from my perspective, every time we look for a coach in the future, someone of the calibre of Bailey, Hardwick and Connoley will be availabel. there are probably half a dozen assistant coaches who would make fantastic senior coaches. however a legend coach like sheedy becomes available to a team like MFC once in a life-time. If he fails, we will still have the opportunity to pick up a Bailey-esk coach in the future. If he succeeds, Sheedy has the potential to rebuild our club into a dominant club in the afl. he could revamp us and change our culture and bring us premierships. id go for sheedy personally...if not, then id go for the opposite side of the spectrum. i young promising up n comer coach in Bailey.
  11. carlton has alot more to lose than melbourne. they lose a top 3 pick...we lose a pick arond pick 20 (and move down the order from pick 2 to pick 4...big deal)
  12. Your in depth analysis of the opposition and possible match-ups make u a prime candidate for the job. i particularly liked ur in depth explanation of plan A, but also plan B and C in case something goes awry...you're hired! actually on seconds thoughts...ur not... the exersize was not to simply name ur best 22
  13. Melb 22 v carlton: FB C.Johnson Warnock Buckley HB Garland Holland Ward C Brown Godfrey Jones HF Davey Miller Bizzel F Dunn Ferguson Weetra FOL Neaves Bode Neville INT Bode, Jamar, White, 'A carbon rod' guys i honestly think me and my mates could beat this team! lol if we field this team we are sure to fark up carlton's chances of getting pick 1 (and us gaining PP as wel after 1st round)
  14. im not a connoley fan. i dont think he should be coach! i agree he didnt get the most our of a team with much greater resources than ours! HOWEVER... if the demons go for him, of coarse ill still buy a membership. Positives of Connoley: 1) he is still young. you could easily consider the last 6 years at fremantle as a learning curve apprenticeship. he now has 6 years under his belt as senior coach, and will no doubt learn from any mistakes he made in past years to grow into a more complete coach as a second club. He wont be the first coach to be more succesful after a stint at another club! 2) his record is really not that bad. finals 2 out of 6 including a preliminary final last season. once again, i dont think he should be the coach. i would go bailey or sheedy. that decision depends on whether u go for a young up n comer or a tried and true legend. both are good candidates. honestly ppl should buy a membership no matter who is chosen as coach. id buy one even if [censored] Pagan was chosen. if connoley is good enough to impress more than sheedy and all the assistent coaches then he must show something. people should be loyal to MFC as a club. not be fickle and just bail out when their prefered coach isnt chosen.
  15. Geelong: Backs: Milburn, Scarlett, Harley H/Backs: Enright, Eagan, Wojinski Mids: Mackie, Bartell, Corey H/Fwds: S.Johnson, Mooney, Chapman Fwds: N.Ablett, Ottens, Stokes Rucks: King, Ling, G.Ablett Inter: Blake, Selwood, Kelly, Hunt Melbourne: Backs: Whelan, Carrol, Frawley H/Backs: Bell, Rivers, Wheatley Mids: Johnstone, Mclean, Green H/Fwds: Bruce, Newton, Bate Fwds: Robertson, Neitz, Davey Rucks: White, McDonald, Jones Inter: P.Johnson, Sylvia, Moloney, Dunn (unlucky to miss out were Bartram, Pettard, Yze and Holland...i chose Dunn ahead of them bc of his versatility) Back matchups: Wheatley vs. S.Johnson Rivers vs. Mooney Frawley vs. N.Ablett Whelan vs. Stokes Bell vs. Chapman Carrol vs. Ottens Notes: 1) if we need an spare defender to quell a period of geelong ascendacy, then Green to play as a floating extra backman across half back and in front of the leading forwards 2) If one of Geelong's big forwards are dominating, then try switching around our tall backman. Otherwise give Dunn a job of N.Ablett or Mooney. If there is still one dominating, then try something different by playing Bell on N.Ablett to see if he can run off him (ala Campbell Brown). Midfield matchups: McDonald Tags Bartel Green Tags Ablett Mclean Tagged by Ling Johnstone vs Mackie Bruce vs Corey Jones vs J.Selwood notes: 1) Moloney, Sylvia and Dunn rotating through as well. 2) If a Geelong midfielder is dominating then give Dunn a go at shutting him down. Davey and Bate to spend time up on a wing. Forwards: 1) Neitz and Davey to play out of the goal square leading up. Newton and Robertson also to spend time leading out of the goal square. 2) Bate and Newton to spend most of the time playing the lead up role of CHF but play close enough to goal to be dangerous for a couple of goals. Sylvia and Dunn also to spend time around CHF. 3) PJ to spend 5 minutes a quater in the forward line out of the goal square. (5-10 minutes a quater in the ruck relieving White) Other notes: - All the usual emphasis on 1%s. Huge emphasis on tackling. When we were on top of the ladder round 18 2006 we were the best tackling team in the competition. - Geelong blast out of the blocks most games so huge emphasis on being competitive and hard at it in the first 20 minutes. - Go dees BTW: - i delisted/retired/traded 8 players over the summer: Neville, Warnock, Bizzel, Ward, Pickett, Brown, Jamar, Miller - i brough in 5 draftees, 1 PSD, 2 rookie elevations (Bode and Neaves). - another possible thing i would do over the summer is trade Bruce for a pick around pick 8-12 (no worse). If this trade was done then i'd offer pick 18 for someone like Ryan Murphey, Cameron Wood, Brent Prissmall...
  16. i think sheedy will get the job...he would be good bc he is a proven great coach, but could also change the culture of our club by helping reshape how we are seen by the afl. his marketing and selling of our club would be invaluable. in that sense he is a once in a life time opportunity. however i like the fact that Bailey was the defensive coach of Port Adelaide when they won the premiership, and he is midfield coach this season when PAs midfield has been phenomenal. Bailey is young, has had success as a coach and seems like he has the coaching nous the be great. i dont think conolley or riley are a chance to be honest. MFC members would crucify a decision for either of those 2. it basically come down to either choosing sheedy, an old tried and tested legendry coach, or go for a young, new up n comer. 2 different approaches...who knows who will be chosen
  17. Captain : Brad Green Vice captain: Brock Mclean, James McDonald (Neitz still remains as spiritual leader) Coach: Sheedy or Bailey Delisted players: Neville, Warnock, Ward, Jamar, Miller (Nb: i would try to trade Jamar and Miller for 3rd round picks if possible. i believe they have some market value) Retired players: Brown, Bizzel, Pickett First draft pick: Cotchin or Morton Football manager: Connoley 07 Bluey: James McDonald
  18. id like to see Chris Conolley offered football manager if he isnt appointed coach
  19. honestly people he' 21 years old. he's allowed to have a few drinks on a sunday/monday night. give the guy a break, he's allowed to have a life. as long as he's not breaking the law or getting into punch ons then people should stop getting neurotic about a 21 yrold bloke going out
  20. given 8 weeks, if they accept with an early appeal will be reduce to 6 weeks. he's a dog and deserved his season to be over. he could have broken bells neck. we do not want this kind of act in the afl and he in puncihsed accordingly
  21. i dont like the idea of multiple captains. i think the importance of a captain is underated. of coarse there must be a leadership group, but give 1 person the responsibility as captain.
  22. Summers has already been rookied on an afl list and failed. I actually spoke to him a year back and asked him whether he was trying to get a rookie spot on another AFL team's list like MFC. (I'm a Summers fan). He told me that when he was on an AFL list he didn't handle it well and he didn't have the drive to be an AFL player. He said that he was more than happy playing VFL and continuing other employment ventures as well ... This is coming from him mouth, I don't think he can be an AFL player. Valenti on the other hand is young and committed and it seems to me has the passion/skill to make it at AFL. I'd be more than happy to rookie him.
  23. I guess there could be up to 4-5 changes this week due to injuries. If those 5 were taken our then theyd be the first ones to come in. In: PJ, Buckley, Garland, Ward, Miller Out: Holland (inj), Davey (inj), Bell (inj), Bate (inj), Robbo (inj) No point playing Robbo and Bell if they are playing at 70% fitness ... better off getting games into PJ, Buckley and Garland. I also saw Newton limp off at the end of Friday night's game. Don't know if he will come up. Valenti must get rookied next season as reward for Sandy's players who perform outstandingly. How much more motivated will Sandy players be if they know they might get a spot on MFC's list if they perform well enough? Good to see Neaves and CJ in the best.
  24. it is highly likely that our new coach will appoint a captain other than neitz next season. this will not be a bad decision, i would be happy to see neitz play his last 1-2 seasons as a leader not necessarily captain (ala James Hird did this season). the question is, who other than neitz should be captain. option 1) Brad Green: he would be my number 1 choice. he is the type of player who id either trade him or make him captain. he has had a solid season, and every time he has been captain in neitz's absense he has performed outstandingly. i think being captain takes his game to another level. he rarely plays a bad game, always has great courage, and definitly does some team inspiring acts. he would be a great captain option 2) James McDonald: would be a fantastic captain. he always plays well and the way he plays inspires his teammates. the main problem is that he's 31. Making Mcdonald captain above Green would indicate that MFC doesnt believe Mclean is ready for captain yet, however it is understood he will take over in 1-2 years. option 3) Brock Mclean: Will 100% be captain in 1-3 years. however in order to be captain in 2008 he needed to have another stellar season this season (like 2006). however unfortunately injuries have plagued him all season. he has still had 5 outstanding games, but injuries have meant that he has not been fit enough to play in the midfield. People should not be worried about Mclean. he has the skill, impact on games and leadership ability to be our next great captain. however not next season. daylight... option 4) Cameron Bruce: i always hoped he'd be our next captain. he is without a doubt a fantastic footballer. however his posessions are not damaging enough for a captain and he has questionable leadership. i would look to trade him for a top 10 pick next year, otherwise keep him in the leadership group and hope he hits form. not captian material. option 5) Russel Robertson and Jeff White: both are too old (29 and 31 respectively) to be serious contenders to replace neitz and do not have outstanding leadership ability. both bleed for the MFC and are good players, but i wouldnt want to see them as captain. for the future: in 2-3 years i'd like to see our leadership group as: B.Mclean (captain), B.Green (V.Captain), J.Rivers, N. Jones, D. Bell, C. Sylvia (i have hope for Sylvia) Q- who would people choose as captain in 2008, not including Neitz and Why
  25. if we dont win another game then we do get a PP...it will be AFTER the first round. For example: If we win another game- pick 4, 19 If we dont win another game- pick 2, 18, 20 in terms of draft, we will be in a much better position if we dont win another game... (btw carlton's PP will be BEFORE the 1st round if they dont win another game...i.e. pick 1,3,19...this is bc they have had less than 5 wins for 2 years running
