no doubt it would be pretty average to have our first pick at 22 in this draft... but let's be honest- in this draft their are 2 standouts- cotchin and Kruiser. by pick 4 we could have picked up an extremely highly rated youngster- Ebert, henderson, Masten... but noone can honestly believe that any of these players will come even close to being as good as Judd. Judd at 24 is in the top 3 players in the afl>>>>>>>>>>any first round pick we can get.

i just found this article in the adelaide advertiser----it is awesome next for the demons. we will be getting a highly rated 20 yrold ruckman pick 8 in 2004, with huge ability for basicalyl nothing!!! seems like pick 37 and Jamar/Miller will be enough considering we can get him for free otherwize!!!! http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/s...-21544,00.html Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said the Crows would now negotiate trades for Meesen and Hudson with both the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne. Trade week opens on Monday week. "There is nothing further to be done with Ben Hudson other than to do a deal with the Western Bulldogs," Reid said. "John Meesen gave genuine thought to his future at Adelaide - which did change with Ben leaving the club - but has decided to join Melbourne." Adelaide's difficulty in trade week is that neither the Bulldogs nor Melbourne are compelled to work a deal with the Crows. The Bulldogs can claim Hudson - without compensation - with the fourth pick in the pre-season draft. Melbourne can do the same with Meesen with the No. 3 call in the pre-season draft. Carlton, at No. 1, and Richmond, at No. 2, have declared they would pass up on Meesen and Hudson if they enter the draft as uncontracted players.

i already posted this on another thread so i apologize, but this is probably the more appropiote thread for this:::sorry guyz... for me the best possible trade week would be: trade 1: Judd to Melbourne. pick 4, pick 21 and johnstone to WestCoast. trade 2: Johns Meeson to Melbourne (in 'TheAge' is reported that the demons have offered Meeson a contract and he has been asked to be traded to us) pick 37 + a sweetener (maybe Miller or Jamar considering theyv lost 2 ruckman this off season) to Adelaide trade 3: Pick 22 and 38 to Melbourne Robbo to Bulldogs. overall: Melbourne Gain: Judd, Meeson (basically the same 2nd and 3rd round picks) Lose lose: pick 4, johnstone and Robbo means in the off season we'v lost 7 players 28 years and older, gained the best player in the afl, a promising young ruck to take over White. =massive win for Melbourne. ----trading robbo for picks will be important especially if we give away our picks for Judd. we dont want to end up with our first pick at pick 60
-
i know it doesnt mean anything, but all the rumours indicate the deal is Johnstone, pck 4 and pick21. this is a pretty fair deal imo, but obv we are getting Judd for under market value if he chooses us as his prefered club. Johnstone is a direct replacement for Judd in the WestCoast starting 18. without a tagger he will be awesome for them. pick 4 gets them a highly rated WestAustralian and pick 21 as well.

it has been reported that Adelaide will try to broker a deal with the demons to get Meesan to the MFC. this obviosuly depends of the judd deal (which could be pick4,pick21 and johnstone) which means the deal could be pick 37 and a sweetener- maybe miller or Jamar considering they have now lost 2 ruckman in this off season. Meesan will come cheap. he is still very young and talented. in 2006 he showed huge promise and ability playing first ruck for Norwood i think. reports were extremely positive. in 2007 with biglands going down he was set to have a huge season. in round 1 he was injured for 10-12 weeks. by the time he got back he had been taken over by griffen and Maric. pick 8 in 2004 has huge ability and could be a great get. obviosuly a little risky bc he is not proven, but could be a steal
-
The Age reported today that Melbourne have offered John Meesan a contract and he has asked to be traded to the demons. Adelaide CEO and recruiting manager have announced that they will try to broker a deal with the demons to get Meeson to us. 20 yr old ruckman- pick 8 in 2004 draft. he has loads of ability. 2006 playing 1st ruck at Norwood showed huge amounts of promise. at the start of 2007 when biglands went down injured it was believed he would take over ruck duties at senior level, however he was injured in round 1 for 10 weeks, and by the time he got back to fitness Maric and Griffen had gone past him. he is a little bit of a risk, bc no guerentee he will become a number 1 ruck, but most cost too much at all, and could turn out to be an absolute steal.

i think more likely trade for robbo would be pick 22 and 38 from the bulldogs (2nd and 3rd round picks). i think this is probably a fair deal for both sides, especially considering robbo is 28 (turning 29) and we will probably need to release him to ease the salary cap pressure if judd comes to Melbourne. for me the best possible trade week would be: trade 1: Judd to Melbourne. pick 4, pick 21 and johnstone to WestCoast. trade 2: Johns Meeson to Melbourne (in 'TheAge' is reported that the demons have offered Meeson a contract and he has been asked to be traded to us) pick 37 + a sweetener (maybe Miller or Jamar considering theyv lost 2 ruckman this off season) to Adelaide trade 3: Pick 22 and 38 to Melbourne Robbo to Bulldogs. overall: Melbourne Gain: Judd, Meeson (basically the same 2nd and 3rd round picks) Lose lose: pick 4, johnstone and Robbo means in the off season we'v lost 7 players 28 years and older, gained the best player in the afl, a promising young ruck to take over White. =massive win for Melbourne. ----trading robbo for picks will be important especially if we give away our picks for Judd. we dont want to end up with our first pick at pick 60

Judd to Melbourne would be the biggest coup at the club for decades. the best player in the afl chooses MFC in his bid to help them win their first premiership since 1964!!! if Judd goes to MFC we will be startin 2008 season: - New innovative exciting coach - the number 1 player in the afl what a way to start a new culture at MFC...for too long we have been mediocre. Judd would increase sponsorship and membership substantially as well which would help us get our finances back on track as our onfield performances skyrocket!

id 100% prefer to have Sylvia stay than Johnstone. sure Johnstone is a genius when he is at his best. but he 27 years old now and has still not fulfilled his full potential. he dominated about 5 games a season but this is not enough output. he has onyl one top10 in b&f...truely pathetic from a player of his ability. sylvia is 21 years old, and has all the attribute to become a champion- highly skilled, decent pace, terrific overhead mark, strength and goal-kicking ability. he has yet to complete a full preseason. i would like to persevere with him, because if he can complete a full preseason and get a motor good enough to play midfield, he could become a Recuitto type player. keep sylvia. if we release him we could massively regret it. with johnstone we know what we are losing. for the next 4-5 years johnstone will be a classy/ inconstistent footballer who is brilliant at times. WestCoast would love johnstone slotting into their starting 18 getting no tag and dominating the wide open space of subiaco. our go at the premiership will be in 2-3 years time, when Rivers, Jones, Mclean, Sylvia, Bate, Bartram, Judd, Dunn, Newton, Davey, Bell and Frawley are hitting thir straps. WestCoast's time in now, so Johnstone is perfect for them. pick 4 and Johnstone for Juddy!
-
dont be silly. Mclean + 4+ 21 would be a masssiivvveee rip off for us. 3 players for 1 (inclding our star 21yrold future captain)---are you a WCE supporter? if Judd chooses MFC as his prefered club we will be getting Judd for under market value. if he chooses us WestCoast are basically forced to deal with only us. the deal will be: Sylvia + 4 Bruce/Johnstone + 4' Davey+ 4+ sweetener (maybe 21 or Chris Johnson). id say the only players off limits for the demons are Mclean, Rivers, Bate, Jones
-
How about this idea? If both Meeson (pick 8 in 2004 but has been ravaged by injury) and Judd both choose Melbourne as their club. Melbourne: Gain: Judd, Meeson, Lose: Pick 4 + Aaron Davey + Pick 37 (a sweetener- how about Chris Johnson) WestCoast: Gain: Pick 4 + Pick 10 + (a sweetener- Chris Johnson) Lose: Judd Adelaide: Gain: Aaron Davey + Pick 37 Lose: Pick 10 + Meeson Seems pretty fair for all 3 clubs. WestCoast get 2 top10 picks plus a young West Australian. Adelaide get Aaron Davey (they want him badly) for not too much. We get a blistering midfielder and a promising young ruck that could possibly solve our future ruck problems. Basically we trade Davey for Pick10 + Meeson and we'll chuck in our 3rd rounder...this seems fair for both teams. if Judd chooses us, we will probably need 2 top10 picks to get the deal done. while I would prefer to keep Davey, wev'e got to lose something good to get Judd.
-
Sylvia and Dunn should both move into the midfield. Sylvia to develop a motor big enough to play as a permanent midfielder (what he was drafted for), and Dunn to play as a versatile tagger/tall midfielder/wingman. Green and Bruce should replace Sylvia and Dunn on the Half Forward Flanks/ mobile CHFs. Davey to play as a forward pocket- i wish we had someone else so he could be released more up the ground, but we desperately need a forward pocket. Bartram/Bell/Pettard to play the attacking halfback roles with the loss of Ward and Brown. Whelan to play as defensive backpocket- he would be a great recruit if he can play a full season. Bate to play true CHF and dvelop into one of the most promising young CHFs in the business. Newton to play deep forward- we need to develop him into our next FF post Neitz. it's useful that he is versatile enough to play the wings, but i prefer him deep. Frawley to be developed to take over Fullback- keep giving him the big tasks...its the only way he will learn to become a great backman.

and also, i think Judd will lose alot of respect from the footy world (which means alot to Judd) if he only chose 1 club as his only preference. i mean after all, his reason to go back to Melbourne is to spend time with his family. obviously he has te right to have some preferences of who he wants to play for, but y would it matter if he plays for Collingwood, Melbourne or Carlton. Whatever club he chooses, hell still get to be in Melbourne with his family. he'd be a bit of a d*ck to back WestCoast into a corner like that. (that's unless he picks MElbourne as his only preference in which case he is a legend of the highest proportions!!haha)
-
surely judd will do the right thing by WestCoast and name at least 2 clubs he has preference to play for. if he names 1 club, he really stuffs WestCoast up, bc they have to try and conjure a deal with that club, leaving no competition and leaves WCE at a distinct disadvantage. It seems logical that Judd would want to go to collingwood. they have unbelievable facilities, loads of cash, room on the salary cap with clement and Buckley (probably) retiring, have a strong culture, play at the MCG and have a huge supporter base. they are also most likely to have strong on field performances of all the 4 clubs... however like the article suggest, collingwood will need 2 top10 picks (or 1 top10 pick and a player worth a top 10 pick) to get the deal done and WCE wouldbe loathe to trade with the magpies. i think our best chance of getting Judd would be if he announced his preference to be either Collingwood or Melbourne and then we are almost certainties to get Judd's services bc we have pick 4 and plenty of players they'd be interested it (Sylvia, Johnstone, Bruce, Davey...) it would very difficult for Collingwood to make a trade with WestCoast. probably their best chance would be to offer pick14, Brown (pick10 in last years super strong draft and twin brother of Mitch Brown) + Rusling...any less than that and WCE will laugh at them and trade him to Melbourne for pick 4 and johnstone.

Maguire signs for 2 years with St.Kilda
sylvinator replied to The Fergburger's topic in Melbourne Demons
McGregor played something like only 9 games this season bc he is so [censored] he couldnt even crack into the starting 18 at the crows. anyone who wants a 27yrold mediocre player who can only sneak into his afl side 9 times in a season is simply stupid. firstly, dont draft anyone over 25 years old secondly, dont draft anyone who wont fit into our starting 18 thirdly, dont accept mediocrity. we are entering a new era where mediocre players are no longer acceptable. fourthly, mcgregor=mediocre. i have hope that Bailey is leading us into the right direction and thus will steer clear of this mediocre hack who is sanfl player at best -
hardwick was in our top 3 candidates... so basically we got the best coach, and essendon got what was left over...
-
i know its hard...but i think people should just wait for Judd to announce which club he picks. its getting abit rediculous people guestimating which club he's already supposedly chosen. hell prob announce it in the next few days...patience!

Question- if we managed to trade for another top 10 pick (to Stkilda, Adelaide, Bullies or Essendon) using Davey, Johnstone or Robbo as trade bait... a) would you prefer to have Judd B) or would you prefer to have the 2 top10 picks. In this draft, that could mean Henderson AND Rance (setting up our spine for years to come) or Morton AND McEvoy (adding a super midfielder and solving our ruck problems)...basically 2 top10 picks in this draft could solve alot of problems. sure, none of them are likely to be anywhere near the calibre of Judd, but are 2 great players>1 superstar???? if we got pick 4 and 7 i would be reluctant to give up those selections bc if we use them in the draft we could get 2 absolute guns. however WCE will demand both of them and realistically we'd have to give up both these selections for Judd... i think personally id have to go for Judd purely bc u know he is in the top 3 players in the afl, and draft picks could be anything. however if we dont get Judd (bc he nominates another club) i still think we should try to trade Johnstone,Robbo or Green for another top10 pick. interesting times coming up in the next 2 weeks

Gary Ablett seems like just a very unassuming, quiet type of guy who hates the limelight. he is the best player in the afl imo. the umpires will ensure an ablett will never win a brownlow. it's a travesty really.

when looking at the daniher era it is important to look at how at performances. we made the 3rd most final series in the afl in the last 10 years. clearly our results indicate that Daniher and CAC have built a strong list that has consistently been strong enough to make finals. however did they build a list good enough to win a premiership...one word. no! is this CAC's fault for not picking us a superstar? maybe. however it is important to note that we have had a number of players in the last 10 years who had the ability to become superstar top 10 players in the afl. the fact that none of them have been able to consistently play at the top of their ability is NOT CAC's fault. Bruce, Yze and T.Johnstone (maybe even Green) are all players who have played atleast 1 season to show that they have the ability to be in the top echelon of afl players. Especially Johnstone on ability could have been a superstar. The fact that none of these players have been able to consistently display their ability season in, season out, in not the recruiters fault. my honest opinion, is that the main thing that has been an obstacle to us moving up the level from 5th-6th to competing for a flag, is our lack of a player who has come on to become a top player in the afl. CAC has done a good job at building a list that can compete strongly, make finals and even preliminary finals. sure, he has made mistake (Luke Molan pick 9 in superdraft, Nick Smith, Aaron Rogers...) but which recruiter doesnt make the odd mistake!? the fact that our players with ability havnt turned into stars like we wouldv hoped is not CAC's fault. is it the coaching staff's fault? who knows... but until our most talented players (new generation being Mclean, Sylvia, Rivers, Jones) can turn out consistently great performances, we will not be true flag contenders. Mclean, Sylvia, Rivers and Jones all have the ability to be in the top 20 players in the afl. will they go down the path of Green, Jonno, Yze and Bruce and never fulfil their full abilities? let's hope that Bailey can turn it all around. Judd would help. he is true champion, and players who have the ability to become stars could follow his lead.

id trade pick 4 and Johnstone for Judd. i think this is a reasonable deal bc WCE get a quality midfield replacement for Judd who will slot into their starting 18 for sure, and pick 4 they can pick up a promising WesternAustralian (Palmer,Morton, Masten etc.). however we are by FFFAAAAAARRR the winners out of this deal. pick 4 could be a great player, but will 99% be half the player Judd is. Johnstone is quality. what he can do with the football is genuis and few players can change a game like he can. however, he is 27 years old, and in his entire career at MFC he has come in our top 10 in the b&f only ONCE!!!!!!! honestly how pathetic is that for a player of his quality. his career at the demons has been far too inconsistent. while he still has shitloads to offer any afl club, would love to see Judd at the demons much more than seeing johnstone and pick4 go. MFC have not had a player in the top bracket of the afl since flower and being 20yrs old ive never seen us have a player in the top 10 players in the afl. here we have an opportunity to get the best player in the league. we will get huge sponsors, membership and merchandize with him at the club which will outweigh any costs involved to get him. imagine a midfield with Judd, Mclean, Sylvia, Jones, Bartram, Moloney, Green, Bruce, McDonald, Dunn, Buckley and possible Bate. Considering this year we didnt have Mclean,Sylvia, Bartram, Moloney fully fit with full preseasons behind them at any stage this year, Judd makes our midfield look top quality.
-
lucky for MFC you are not part of our recruiting team. obv u need a certain number of keyposition, ruckman and midfielders in any afl squad, however with top picks you MUSTMUSTMUST always go for the best talent available. we picked up Luke Molan at pick 9 in the best draft in the history of afl when NickDalsanto was easily the best player available at that pick and was extremely highly rated. but we went for the CHF bc we needed key postion players. thank god Bailey openly stated that his draft policy is that he will pick the best available player. with top picks, its the only way to draft.
-
the kidz shoulda been playing the last 8 rounds, seeing as these guyz arent on the list anymore carlton can keep riley. he set us back a season of developing our youngsters
-
exactly right Kramer. McGregor cant kick. Bailey seems to specifically want footballers who have good kicking skills. note his delisting of godfrey and ward even tho they have good endevour. the new Melbourne Demons will be a skillful team. Dean Bailey doesnt have time for Y_M's love children in average players like Ken Mcgregor. he could only fit into the adelaide side 9 times this year ffs
-
Ken McGregor is [censored], is turning 27 years old and is exactly what we DONT need at MFC. we shuldnt trade for anyone over 25 years old
