  1. Perhaps you are correct, but without a time machine, we will never know 😁
  2. Well now is the certainly the time to pull the trigger on Caulfield if that is the preferred option because the Racecourse is being redevloped, with or without MFC. It is now or never (for Caulfield). I say its a great location, not just becuase I am a short train ride away 😎 It would certainly give the Dees a 'true home' and it would be in the old recruiting zone with its fan base relatively close by.
  3. Not everyone makes the correct call 100% of the time. The Dees were bundled out of the finals last year relatively easily and the forward line had issues for a big chunk of the season, it needed something different to change course. Anyways, the lad made a pretty good debut against Sydney, well done 👍
  4. Looking forward to watching JVR in his debut. He should have been blooded in 1 or 2 games last season, better late than never.
  5. Or Alan Jaković in Croatian ... and the subject of this thread would be Oliver Šestan (pronounced Shestan) 🤓
  6. When Sam Walsh and George Hewett are playing in midfield and when Harry McKay improves his kicking accuracy.
  7. Last year when holidaying in Croatia I used Watch AFL app on my phone and it was good for live matches with decent resolution (same as if watching Kayo in Australia).
  8. Agreed. It is a question of building increased engagement from fans from season to season. The casual tv supporter gets a 3 game membership. The 3 game membership person upgrades to all home matches membership the following season and goes to say 8 games ... ... you get the idea ...
  9. Happy 87th RDB Jr! 🎂🎉🍺😊 Not only was he a legendary ruck rover in many an MFC Premiership side, he was also a top quality coach who re-awakened a sleeping giant and brought the first silverware to a struggling small club 🏆🏆🏆🏆
  10. I thought the USMC 1st Marine Division camped at the MCG after serving in crucial battles at Guadalcanal in 1942. Perhaps US Army units were billeted there later in the war?
  11. End of Q2 CAR 7 - 5 - 47 COLL 8 - 1 - 49 Even a bit of biffo for a 'training simulation' 😁
  12. Blues 31 - Pies 13 at Q1 Harry McKay with 3 goals. De Koning in ruck and taken a few speccies with a goal as well. TDK looks built up physically compared to 2022.
  13. I thought Carlton were the "founding tenant" football club in 1885 at the MCG as the MCC had MFC playing next door at an oval in Yarra Park at the time? I think MFC started using the MCG as a home ground in 1890? I think CFC started playing at Princes Park in 1897 when the VFL commenced. http://www.demonwiki.org/1885 https://blueseum.org/1885 Anyone have any authoritative sources on this opaque period of MCG tenancy history? Anyways, Collingwood are definitely late comers to the MCG.
  14. I have no inside knowledge. I have only been to the Caulfield Cup once and sat some Monash University exams at the racecourse many moons ago, however I do pass the area by train regularly. I remember parking for my exams where they new apartment complexes are and doing panic last minute cramming in the car 😁 I suspect that any MFC training facility would be located in the red areas I circed. That is the southern, Glen Huntly end of Caulfield Racecourse, close to Glen Eira Secondary College. Allowing the school some level of access to some facilities may even bring in some decent government funding ... something to think about 🤔
  15. What is owned by the MRC and what is Crown Land at Caulfield Racecourse. The main training oval (with MCG dimensions) inside the racecourse and perhaps a secondary training oval at Glen Huntly oval with indoor facilities/ administration where the stabling yards are (height of the building/structure is not an issue there).
  16. Excellent analysis! The interesting question for the Blues will be how much further players like Cerra, Cottrell, O'Brien, Young, Boyd, De Koning etc have developed from last season. If they can stepup to another next level, watch out for the Blues in 2023.
  17. I pass through Caulfield Station several times per week and I see the bulldozers are currently out in force at Caulfield Racecourse! I sincerely hope the MFC Board are not napping and day dreaming of a quality facility in the shadows of the MCG that will probably never see the sunshine. The more I think about it, this Caulfield Racecourse opportunity is potentially a real gift horse [pun intended] 🐴
  18. I also live in the City of Glen Eira and the redevelopment of Caulfield Racecourse has been in the local media for years, it is not something new, it is definitely worthy of consideration because the land inside the track area is large and is not currently used, it really is dead space. There would be room for the Demons training base and also other community facilities/hospitality venues. In terms of location, it is near Caulfield Station which serves the Frankston, Pakenham and Cranbourne Lines (and the currently being rebuilt Glen Hunty Station on the Frankston Line is also just to the south of the racecourse). Also the area is really well served by Trams (64, 67 etc...) and buses. Community use aspects could easily be incorporated with different initiatives from Glen Eira LGA and also Glen Eira Secondary College to the south and Monash University (Caulfield Campus) to the north, border on the racecourse precinct. It wouldn't take much creativity to come up with development proposals with a community use angle that could attract substantial government funding. Also, Glen Eira LGA is a major area of Demons fan support and in the old MFC historic recruitment zone. If there was one LGA in Greater Melbourne where the Demons had a demographic core, Glen Eira is probably it. This could be a once in a generation opportunity for the Dees, it must be closely examined!
  19. I too like her commentary! Hopefully she returns in some capacity to MFC down the track.
  20. Wow, now I feel I can 'come out' too 😁 Actually, I am the flipside ... a Carlton supporter whose second team are the Dees! [Maybe even a minority of one?!? 🤔😆]. I supported Carlton since I was a young kid but grew up in one of MFC's old suburban recruiting zones. Demons players used to come to our primary school footy clinics. Robert Flower taught me how to handball. Am a Carlton member but still watch many Dees games on tv and occasionally even catch a live game at the MCG. There ... I am out of the closet now 😊
  21. I found out about the "secret" TISM shows via some TISM fan pages on FB. The info was with short notice and I have a toddler in the home so I wasn't able to duck out to see them on short notice but am really looking forward to catching them tomorrow as well as Regurgitator (missed their gig in Moorabbin earlier this year) and the Cosmic Psychos (who I have caught live a few times recently, they are always great value) 🤘🍺😎
  22. They may well be ethnic compatriots by ancestry, Jakovich's ancestry is Croatian and Sestan is a common surname in Croatia (well a friend of mine shares that surname). Looks like a decent rookie pick, worth a shot 👍
  23. Has any thought ever been given to Elsternwick Park (where Elwood, Brighton and Elsternwick intersect)? On Brighton Rd/Nepean Highway (good road transport), near 67 tram (Carnegie to Melb Uni tram) and Elsternwick train station (good public transport links), spacious location (can easily have two ovals) and close to MFC's traditional supporter base in the inner Sth & inner Sth East ...
