Agree that it's a massive endorsement of Brisbane. That must encourage the AFL re GC's dire position. If they can get the admin and fundamentals right then Qld can be an attractive destination. It shows that getting the fundamentals right is key to turning around FCs, not priority picks. See MFC for example. GC is really the AFLs only major problem and this shows it can be sorted. Carlton are a temporary basket case which will eventually resolve.

Hates playing under Ross Lyon is one trite explanation but that's hard to reconcile with consecutive BnF finishes of 1st, 2nd, 1st. Btw, I do think that values him very highly in the trade market. Maybe he sees no imminent sucess at Freo and that's what he craves. But despite Brisbane's optimistic outlook and improvement curve they did finish bottom 4, below Freo. It's confusing to me.

It's very interesting that BnF Neale wants out to a bottom 4 club not in his home state. He doesn't appear to have been offered the mega deal say Gaff has been offered at North either although he appears equally qualifed. Not much appears to be made of this move in discussions or the media. I guess it's because it's WA to Qld and it's out of direct view in Victoria. It's a massiive move IMO.

Farewell Dom Tyson
The starting midfield rotation is Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Harmes. If they each play 75% gametime that's 100% of that role covered. The issue for Tyson is that he is at least 2nd in line for this preferred role after Jones. He needs at least 2 inside mid injuries to play that role. Not saying that can't happen.

There's a more appropriate place for Jones discussion probably in his upcoming main board review thread but suffice to say people have very short memories. Along with Clarrie he carried our inside midfield at the start of the year before Brayshaw blossomed, Viney's first stint and Harmes amazing development. The BnF results are testament to this. Sure he has been legitimately pushed out of the starting set to the wing which doesn't suit his game but he's too good not to be in the 22 and is 1st cab of the rank to fill any starting inside vacancy. People should show due respect.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
May is only 6 months older than Gaff 1/92 vs 6/92.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
With 2 & 3 already this year maybe Freo's 1st next year suits them. It's likely to be in the vicinity of the compo pick they would get if they held on to May. Then the question is: is it better to have him there or not in 2019? GC really need to get value for him now and start to make progress but as you say @Lucifer's Hero how many 18 you do they need? In 2016 they had 4 picks in the top 10 Ainsworth, Scrimshaw, Brodie, Bowes - none have come on really strongly unfortunately and Scrimshaw is on his way out. However last year none in the top 10 because they traded 2 for Lachie Weller. Maybe 3 in the top 5 of the "superdraft" is the best plan they've got? Craig Cameron is a smart, experienced operator who was at Richmond for their rebuild. He's no nonsense too so I think they are in good hands. But what a challenge with both co-captains leaving in one year! Hardest job in AFL. Maybe it warrants it's own thread - what would you do if you were GC List Manager?

OK BnF is an event to get past.

Is Gaff really still trying to decide between North and West Coast?

How many times have you seen him live in action?

West Coast have up until Monday 15 October to match any RFA offer and force a trade: Friday, 5 October: Restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period starts. Monday, 8 October 10am: NAB AFL Trade Period starts. Friday, 12 October 5pm: Close of restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period. Monday, 15 October 2pm: AFL restricted free agency matching offer three-day period ends. There's time for plenty of water to flow under this bridge.

It could get ugly if he nominates the Eagles though. They have Gaff cap space too.

Weak troll. It might seem like a cute joke but the ignorant here will believe this and run with it. You should know better.

Correct and well said but you shouldn't need to do it. I have already posted this in the thread and it's far from the first time. It is hard to understand why @Dr.D continues to post wrong information about historical trades and then makes incorrect assumptions based on these errors. The real information is easy to find on the internet. Mahoney and ream have done a tremendous list management job recently, not least creatively trading up for Oliver and Weed. We had @goodwindees telling us we should be "harder" and more like Essendon. When I challenged him to provide a list of Dodoro's trading coups all I got was crickets. There's an agenda of unjustified outrage among some posters who use misinformation and ignorance as fuel.

Totally shiit attitude. Hysterical premature lachrymation. #ETjellyfish

Too much assumption in this thread Freo can get Ports picks. Freo's best pick will be 5 and Lukosius and Rankine are tipped to go earlier at GC 2 or 3, Saints 4.

If you were Norf's list manager what would you do? They are in draft no mans land. They could trade out say Goldie keep Preuss and go to the draft. But they probably wouldn't get enough difference in the deal. I think they've got to go for it. It could be California or bust though.

Andrew Gaff
Can't knock Norf for having a dip. Otherwise they are locked in mid table mediocrity. They have a solid base of senior talent across the board with Tarrant, Brown, Goldstein, Higgins, Cunnington. Add genuine talent in Gaff, Polec and Hall and they could jump up to contend. Relatively weak teams have been winning big lately. The biggest issue for them may be the disparity in pay for the newcomers vs the incumbents. They must've sold the ultimate success dream to the incumbents and if it comes everyone is happy but if it doesn't - even finishing 2nd - cracks will form. They've gotta punt though I think.

Unrealised potential.

Sorry, I didn't have the adjusted picks after Academy and compensation picks so it was actually a bit different in the wash (I've corrected it above now): Treloar + 33 for 9 + 8 (next year) + 63 Treloar + 563 for 1469 + 1551 + 112 means Treloar for 2569, pick 2 = 2517
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Just to be completely clear it was Treloar + 33 for 9 + 8 (next year) + 63 A 2nd rounder came back to GWS.

it's the nature of the beast. I should add Ben Kennedy and Pat McKenna in there too

I think there are 3 kinds of trades for players: Blockbusters with early picks and big salary involved: e.g. Lever, May Role players for known quantities: e.g. Vince, Lewis, Hibberd, Melksham, Garlett, Tyson, Bugg, Preuss Speculation for players that have unrealised potential: Frost, Balic, McKenna, Kennedy, KK In some ways #3 are most interesting

Norf fans on BF claiming (in the Preuss thread) they have Josh Kelly in the bag next year too on a handshake deal with GWS, even with Gaff, Polec and Hall coming in this year. Must have bottomless salary cap.
