  1. Yes it appears that way with Frost vs Petty and I was pleased for Frost, but I can't say that with 100% certainty. Frost may have been torched against St.Kilda and Petty may have played well last night - taking into account what happened further up the field and the quality of the opposition. Billy was very good and played with uncharacteristic confidence. His biggest problem previously has been hesitation with the ball but he really took the game on. If he can sustain that it will be great. I admire ANB for getting the most out of himself, but his lack of football skills could cost us a flag.
  2. I wish we tried JKH as small lock down defender, Neville backup / successor. He is clean, competitive, agile and a neat kick. It's his best chance of making it at AFL level. I know we're trying Dion there with some success. I liked Machaya, clean and competitive. Flash Gordon - oh boy - horrible.
  3. AFAIR Happy Hammond was on 7. Uncle Norman and Tarax Club on 9.
  4. I think our problems with defensive running and connection inside 50 have been exacerbated by some selection and role issues. I don't think Tyson can play that wing role, he has to play inside mid or not at all. I think we missed Fritsch in that wing role yesterday. I would have omitted Tyson, retained Bernie and moved Salem up to the wing with Fritsch. That gives us more defensive run and much better delivery into F50. I see Joel Smith covered the most metres and had 9 intercepts which is promising for such an inexperienced player. I was in favour of bringing Petty in for structure and as Goodwin said , the problems were further up the field. We need 2 talls in defence, Frost will never be a premiership player, just like Bugg - move on. Dec Keilty was out the previous week, Petty was the logical choice - I hope we persist with him against Freo. Defensive running is supposed to be ANB's bread and butter - he's a very honest trier who gets the best out of himself - I admire him but I'm not a fan. 1 tackle. Stretch may be the preferable option - he has great running power and has some good form at Casey which should be rewarded. It's a tough ask because he has been playing as starting mid at Casey and has been playing well and we'd be asking him to come in as defensive forward. JKH had the same experience last year and really struggled. I'm a Hannan fan but he had a shocker and has to go back to Casey. Spargo, Kent or Garlett are the potential replacements. Jeffy would be worth a try - 7 tackles at Casey is a promising return. In: Vince, Stretch, Garlett Out: Tyson, ANB, Hannan Earlier in the year we were scoring a lot of goals from close range with players sharing the ball. Opposition has woken up to this and defends that area strongly. We need to try scoring from longer range. I'm very positive about our prospects - we had a very young and inexperienced side again on Sunday, we'll definitely get there. The thing we supporters have control of is our own emotions.
  5. Would be a perfect pick-up for us - class, contested ability and leadership. He's exactly what we need. Is from the same draft as Nathan Jones, and subject to medical assessment can play 3 more seasons.
  6. Very proud Melbourne supporter. Love Simon Goodwin: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2018-06-23/rd-14-simon-goodwin-postmatch We were super hard at it and just weren't able to convert our opportunities. We were terrific in a hostile environment and the players committed to the contest incredibly bravely. We can correct the problems connecting with the forward line and we learn more from the losses in the long run. We do need an extra bit of class and experience. Marc Murphy would be a very good pick up for us.
  7. Collingwood- just another sleeper under the tracks as the Demon express powers on to the flag.
  8. Yes but it does illustrate that there is "a line" where the activity does not promote the greater good and it's shallow analysis to say that line is where the activity is breaking the rules. It's somewhere on the continuum between 100 x 100s and Essendon's drug program
  9. For me the issue isn't about the camp per se, it's about the lack of effective early communication. To be successful the whole organisation needs to be pulling in the same direction and the fact that the camp was cancelled so late indicates this was not the case. I know for a fact that it was planned since before the GF. The whole club needs to accept some responsibility for this. What I want to see is unity of purpose, I don't want to see a divide between FD and players, I want to see shared authority and responsibility. IMO the worst outcome in this would have been forcing the players to go on the camp - the club listening to player concerns is a better outcome, even if it happened late - better late than never. There's a glass half empty view but the glass half full view view is that this unites the club with everyone pulling in the same direction and everyone taking full responsibility for results. The players have put their hand up - let's see what happens next.

  11. I'd be very keen to hear Jordan Lewis' opinion on the boot camp. He's got perspective from seeing it all at Hawthorn from 4 flags to Kokoda.
  12. I think it is an issue because it highlights lack of early communication between the FD and the players. The outcome is not ideal because it indicates that the players feel that the FD weren't acting in their best interests with the Boot Camp and the FD was unable to make sufficient changes or assurances to convince them otherwise. There is likely to be a cost associated with late cancellation too. Those posting that it's a PR failure because it has been reported in the media are misguided, there's 100s of AFL reporters and there's nothing to report on at the moment. It would have got out one way or another and it's far better for the club to try to control the message.
  13. Training report information is very valuable and I'm very thankful for the effort the posters go to. But it's naive to expect that it won't generate wider discussion and elements of critique: Pedo is in good shape - can we play 3 tall forwards and where does Weid fit? Lewis is training with the backline - he has pace issues in the midfield, can he manage them better here? will he replace Bernie in the backline and can they both play in the same 22? TMac is moving to the forward line and Lever has arrived - what does that mean for the backline structure and who will be the key players? Salem is training with the midfield - does that have implications for other midfielders like Tyson?
  14. We badly need aerial contest coaching and training. We were pathetic in this area in 2017. Lever and a fit Gawn will help but we need a lift everywhere. We were massacred down the line all season long.
  15. I may be wrong but I think that was a reference to regaining full mobility in his ankle after losing it from an extended period in the moonboot. Maybe @Webber could advise?
  16. Someone has to take the kick ins and that someone has to play in the defensive zone. Bernard is not the ideal solution. Sounds like Salem is in the midfield group. They don't seem to like Hibberd for this. Maybe Lewis will take it on.
  17. Good on you for following the under age footy and providing an insight. What this illustrates is how meaningless talk of "2018 super draft" is. No-one really knows. It's only now that there's some real insight into the quality of the 2015 Draft - Schache, Oliver, Francis etc ...
  18. It's going to be interesting if we don't have many injuries - particularly to talls. Let's say Gawn, Hogan, TMac, Lever, OMac and Frost (I don't have him in my best 22 but many do) are playing at MFC It's going to be interesting to fit Pedersen, Weideman, Petty, King, T.Smith, Keilty and Filipovic along with Hutchins in the Casey team. I guess a couple of injuries are likely ...
  19. Thanks drunkn. I love the numbers. I know many could not care less. I think it's great that they've plugged the earliest available gaps, I'm not a fan of reserving revered numbers. Looks like 41 & 43 are the new remaining gaps with Josh Wagner 42, Joel Smith 44, Dec 45 and Flipper 47 beyond
  20. Should I value your judgement? Here's your post from earlier this year in the corresponding 2017 draft prospects thread (with their actual draft position in brackets added by me): How did that go for you? 3/10 in the top 10 9/20 in the top 20
