  1. The amount of top 20 or top 21 picks (a lot of hope in Maric) is only relevant because that is where most of the stars of the game are grabbed. We haven't been great at developing these good players into stars of the game in the past and it is ironic that our only 'star' is off the RL and and most exciting young player was nabbed in the PSD. But with two development coaches, or one-and-a-half with Williams being the midfield line coach aswell as DC with O'Donnell, we are desparately trying to improve in this area.
  2. I know many on here believe we should pay him out but I think a contract is a contract. Would this informant know of any desire to move him on during October? My sources tell me that the FD would like to 'give' one or two away.
  3. It didn't go over my head, I just cannot be effed writing "Pick 18 equals approx. pick 24 - 30 in any other draft with the normal 12 month age parameters." There is no hard science, nor have I claimed any. The draft is shallow because of the changes, it is shallow by approx. a third, and using rudimentary math (basically multiplying each number by 1.5) - 'Pick 18 is Pick 27.' It gives a simple and easy way to compare and judge a pick's worth.
  4. Chairman Mao used to say "It always darkest... ...before it's completely black" Effing commie. Well said CB. Looking forward to a future worth the pain of the recent past.

You are missing the one name that will be the focus of midfield tags against every team we play - Aaron Davey. Opposition sides will only put more time into him, and it should allow others to shine, hopefully.

He got 24 touches, 6 clearances, 8 tackles, and an assist against Essendon at the Dome. He has been a lot better than the perception, and I suspect his Bluey results will reflect that.
  7. Isn't this great? What has happened to Demonland in the last few weeks? The strikerate on here has certainly diminished, and 45HG16 and I have had a few laughs but it's frustrating to say the least. What can anyone say about the 'Kaiser Chief' generation? "It's cool to know nothing..."
  8. Bate, Jurrah, Green, and Sylvia are all capable of kicking 40 goals in 2010. Watts, Davey, Maric, Petterd, Wonaeamirri, Jetta, and Jamar are all capable of kicking 20 goals in 2010 (permitting their roles allow time forward). I don't know the make up of who will kick the goals but I do believe we are capable of kicking 15 goals agianst most teams.
  9. Then I don't know why you keep mentioning Jamar. If you know PJ isn't a ruckman, but a forward, then you should be comparing him to Bate, Jurrah, Petterd, and Robertson this season as they play the same forward 'lead-up' role as PJ. How does PJ fit in to our best 22? (keeping in mind Watts will take Robertson's spot in the forward line.) Jamar turns 26 this month, he is only a few months older than Moloney, Davey, and Warnock. What do we do with them?
  10. I just threw up a little, JL. Bad taste in the mouth...
  11. If you need any convincing over why the 2009 draft is shallow - read my signature. This is not opinion, it is fact. You can still pick up a good player at 27... I just don't think it is as inviting to clubs as trade bait, nor to Barry Prendergast, who has already commented on the shallowness of the draft.
  12. With all due respect - are you even trying to convince anyone that PJ is a superior ruckman and should be retained? Because if DB asked me to play 20 games next year I would. You know, just to pick up the slack...
  13. Pick 18 is effectively Pick 27 so I would be throwing that around a little bit if there was someone we were after.
  14. I know it was a throwaway, but I have had a few conversations with people who want to put Morton, Watts, Grimes, etc on silly money now to reach the threshold without thinking about what effect it has down the line. What CC is doing is that if a player is on 400k over two years, they would get 250-300k this year and 150-100k the next year. You reach the threshold and you don't ruin your wage structure.
  15. If we put kids on silly money now, what happens when we become half decent and they come out of contract? Their agent is going to say "you gave us this much at 18, 20 we think at 23 he should get 20%, 50% more. We should frontload, and give your midrange (24-28) players more.
  16. We are only going to get him if he nominates us anyway, and if we are his nominated team that is what I would offer. With PSD1 there it gives us the upper hand during trade week if he nominates us.
  17. Of course it is. DD36 is in a committed relationship with a solid wharfie named Chet. He's just kidding Chet...
  18. We are having to frontload contracts to get up to the 92.5% minimum. You have to pay someone.
  19. So you want to get rid of Jamar because PJ is a better ruckman but you want PJ to play as a forward? That doesn't make any sense. And BTW, PJ is, at best, a small lead up target because he doesn't impose himself on contests. He is 200cm and 100kg but it doesn't mean a thing when you don't use your bulk and impose yourself when going for a mark. He has skills and is athletic, but he is a classic tease. Adequate at everything, good at nothing.
  20. I would trade for him with Pick 18 or Bell and 34 or Jamar. If PA baulk then pick him up in the PSD. And we are paying Cam Bruce $500k+ in 2010, so $600k for Burgoyne isn't silly. As I have said before - Gotta pay someone. There is a minimum to the cap. And Burgoyne is not PA's best player; Kane Cornes is.
  21. This is where you run past your argument and trip over. He is an injury prone dud, but played above himdelf in an injury ravaged year? Apparently, I am not allowed to much more than disagree with you or else I am a bully but I will lay down some facts for you and the general public to gorge on - Jamar is our best ruckman, Martin is a best back-up ruckman, Spencer and Meesen are raw ruckmen fighting for Jamar's spot, and Paul Johnson is a wingman in Tarzan's body - he is not a ruckman. With that in mind, Jamar is a required player and I sincerely hope that this bloke who turns 26 this month has an injury free year at the Dees next year.
  22. This thread intimates that I had a choice? I don't remember a conscious decision. All I remember are cold days at Waverley, cold days at the G, Garry Lyon, Allen Jakovich, Damien Gaspar breaking his foot while kicking out from a behind in the twos... Sorry, laughing now... What were we talking about? It wasn't really a decision to go for the Dees, but it was an easy non-decision. If that makes sense.
  23. I'm still not certain of what you have seen.
