Gets a lot of stick from 45HG16 but will be a great player. Hopefully, his back problems can be managed. A leader of men.
-
Why should 2010 be D/Year? He has one year, effectively half of that if we start poorly, and he is 'out the door'? Our talent are toddlers and some of our future hopes are not even at the club. I really wish people would stop using 'winning culture' like it has some visceral meaning - it is a made-up buzz word. Teams will win when they are good enough. He will have done his job if he gives games to Scully, Trengove, Pick 11, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Maric, Jetta, Morton, Spencer, Cheney, Grimes, Wonaeamirri, Jurrah, Frawley, Petterd, Bail, Martin, and Meesen. And if he is giving games to those players he is selflessly sacrificing his own record put games into the right players that will help us win that flag. 21 new players will be at the club in 2010 since Bailey arrived. Those toddlers need time.

If a team had PSD1, they should never complete their list at the ND. You never know what OOC player could find themselves there.
-
Yeah, and when he gets here he can join Maloney, Pettard, Batrum, Silvia, Meeson, and Wonnamerri. MacClean will be gone though...
-
Valenti or Spencer still must go through the ND without being picked up. I would think it's unlikely that they wouldn't be picked up, especially by teams like Richmond that are going to clear out a lot of players in a shallow draft.
-
I want to know how we can get rid of all our so-called 'list cloggers' and one very injured prospect, and get all these bloody picks?! Not every recruiting team in the AFL models themselves on Freo circa the 1990s. Just resign Davey, throw 18 around, see if we can get someone in the PSD and be done with it.
-
For a media darling, he gets a lot of criticism...
-
This goes over a few heads. They are adamant that the club and Bailey did the right thing, but now equivocate the 'right thing' as failure on a grand scale because of the old touchstones - the wooden spoon, and the win/loss record. 2009 was a perfect failure for mine, and its worth another year extension.
-
Yeah, you could do it to Buckley. We will lose Cheney or McNamara though as you have to go through the draft again. Buckley is the only one who wouldn't get picked up with his OP issues.
-
You know what this means? There is going to be a KPF picked up at 11 or after who is going to be an out-and-out gun. As Freak says none, there shall be one. At least... Kids always wrong is where I am going with this...

For those who cannot understand why myself, and others, have a lot of time for Bailey (it's hardly love), it is for these reasons: we (some sub-consciously) realise that the list he has helped build is getting better every year, and that he has been selfless with who is on the list, and who he has given games to. The players that have not progressed since DB has come to the club are Batram, McLean, Miller, PJ, Dunn, Bell, and Newton (I didn't include Buckley because of an impressive 08). One of those players is gone, and a couple others may go. I don't think that is a bad record at all. Buckley, Garland, Wonaeamirri, Martin, Davey, and Warnock all showed something and/or got better in 08. Jones, Bate, Frawley, Morton, Sylvia, Petterd, Grimes, Moloney, Cheney, Jetta, Jamar, Bennell, and Jurrah all showed something and/or got better in 09. I look forward to seeing how the club develops Watts, Maric, Meesen, McNamara, Bail, Spencer, Strauss, Blease, McKenzie, Scully, Trengove, Pick 11, Pick 18, and PSD1.
-
Bate will take some heat from those two but they will be decade long focal points - they have to get used to attention. Keeping players on purely to keep attention away from younger players is self-defeating. That is why Knights moved Lucas out of the team and Lloyd upfield.
-
Don't care about wins. And they will take care of themselves when you develop the right players. Watts, Maric, Scully, Trengove, Grimes, Spencer/Meesen, Bennell, Petterd, and Wonaeamirri to play 16+ games Strauss, Blease, Pick 11, and Jetta to play 8+ games. I think we are good enough to win between 6-11 games but unless players look like they are regressing there should be no magic win/loss record that defines our future.
-
I think he could be an A grade mid. But that's a long way from where he is now. Great awareness, lateral movement, smarts. Decent kick, but can improve. Hopefully, we can get him to stay beyond 2010.

One more player to follow Brock out the door!

Pretty certain you heard the news late. Hence Redleg's comforting sentence. -
I don't know how the club sees him. Another who is adequate at everything and good at nothing. Trade week may bring him a home otherwise - he has some work to do.
-
I agree with everything else you said. But this last statement looks like a jibe at those that think like I do - that development of Watts, Scully, Trengove, Blease, Strauss, Jetta, Bennell, Maric, Grimes, Morton, Spencer, Jurrah, and Petterd is more important than winning games in 2010. If pumping 16+ games into Watts, Scully, Trengove, Blease, and Maric means we lose 3 or 4 extra games then so be it. We should be building toward our flag window, and it will need the development of the above players. Development that needs to happen in 2010. Does that mean I think we will win only 4 games? Of course not. But if this development of players means winning 7 games instead of 10 or 11, I would still do it. I would sacrifice more wins to build that Premiership team.

I tell you guys, I was a bit worried about Cale but... Thanks, Freak. Put my mind at ease. Cale is going to be sh!tloads better than Mitch. Phew!

Bittnerness is fine, but you have to bite your tongue in public Robbo...

You're getting dryer by the day. Jamar was good this year, but will be 30 in 2013... Meesen and Spencer look alright as tap ruckmen but limited in every other sense. Martin could be back-up ruckman for another 6+ years (it's all about the aggressiveness and assertive style, needs to learn how to kick though). Do I have to mention PJ? If we trade Jamar, then look for a replacement. If not, see whether Meesen or Spencer can progress.

Answer the man's question: What negativity? The negativity that is the Ladder? Because that gets re-set Saturday Evening and we are back in alphabetical order! Yes! We're mid-table!!
-
'Strengthen' more than 'bring forward.' Apologies for the poor choice of words. What I am saying is that I am almost certain we would prefer to have 'Pick 11' from 2013-2020 than Brock McLean. Especially if that player picked is a KPF. Now to back that up: McLean would be 26-33 during that time and, I believe, superceded in the midfield by Bennell, Maric, Scully, Trengove, Blease, and/or Strauss. Given decent recruiting, Pick 11 could be 21-28 in that window and play an important role in our tilt. Pick 11 would have a greater contribution to our premiership aspirations than Brock McLean. (Although, as an afterthought, how old was Franklin last year?)

The Aaron Davey Scholarship that was launched a few months ago sets aside a RL spot every year for an indigenous fella from the NT. Please tell me if I am wrong about any of the particulars, people.
-
Who we take is important in judging this deal but the fact remains - McLean is not worth a pick in the single figures, even in this draft. Add to this fact that we are going to get two brand spanking new mids in the draft and suddenly we are selling surplus stock at retail prices. We have done well, and it strengthens our push to be a flag worthy side from 2013 onwards.

Great year. I think it will continue... Plays with an arrogance that very few of our players have. Bold. As our midfield gets better, he should get better and kick more goals. Relies on others to get him the ball, but is up there with Bate and Davey in terms of intelligent kicks into the forward line.
