Trade week is bloody important, but it is a risk I am willing to take. The coach will coach whatever playing stocks we have. Surely Prendergast and Harrington can work on any 'holes' they see.
-
We are leaving ourselves open to a massive let-down if we appoint someone before the Pies season is over, aren't we BB? I hope we wait and test his resolve. We can still pick up some very good assistants in mid-October if we need to - let's wait. WAIT CAMERON, GARRY, AND DON!! I apologise for my raised voice...
-
I hope they don't. If you want Malthouse - the only time you will know for certain (outside of SEN-like whispers) will be in mid October. I am happy to wait and I want my club to test his resolve by waiting.
-
Yeah, but I am really struggling with the metrics and validation rules for the 'Skinometer.' And the HUN rarely publishes skin-fold measurements week-to-week...
-
I will get to it. And stop bumping it - you're annoying the hell out of Robbie F...
-
He was where a senior coach has to be - straddling both sides.
-
It hurts... But Old's right... (sigh)

I understand. I think the passion for the club was part of the problem that some saw with him. As those Whiteboard sessions suggest - he is adamant about the Premiership Model that they have tried to deliver - young list, peaking at the same time, move on older players. And I agree with his direction, but not the fervour with which he and CC were going about it. I believe the senior players were upset with said fervour but CS and CC could point to those senior players and say that they were more to blame for the 2011 failure of the model rather than the decisions of teh club to move on experience and not play seasoned, if terribly inconsistent pros. I understand I am getting into another area of argument here but I see it as so wrapped up with the future of CS and CC it is unavoidable.

It's just the marketing department palying on Gen Y, X, Z, Pepsi, et al. Not too bad. Although 1 in 40 Generation D are known to be blinded by ludicrous amounts of money and move to western backblocks...

You commit a pick before trade week. So you cannot trade out of that 'committed' pick. And that pick will be our first round pick as clubs will make us pay the premium for Viney as we have already stated we will take him. It is just the propoer thing to do from their perspective to make us pay the highest price for him.
-
Yeah, how you would tell a proud Todd Viney to be caretaker for another for a whole year? If Malthosue wants to coach again - he can. In October 2011. Otherwise, we move on.
-
I wouldn't sell Cam's love for the club short. He's been around but he is a Demon. He is really enjoying working for the club, and he if wished to move on - the issues a few months ago would have been the time to leave. I don't know whether he will be around after 2012 but he wants to be here and he loves the club.
-
We will be made to use our first pick on Viney. We have committed to him and another club(s) will make us pay the premium. As for your option/scenario I agree that they are the 'high-level' options available but I would be trading for talent.

Morton, Martin re-signed; Green soon to happen

I believe Nasher is saying that we go on about loyalty, or the lack thereof, but when one player - often derided - decides to show some loyalty we don't show our appreciation for said loyalty. I guess we only care about good players showing loyalty... As long as the royals are loyal, the serfs can get stuffed. -
Do nothing for three weeks, grab a coffee with Malthouse and ask him whether he would like a chance to go out on his terms rather than Eddie's. Those exact words will enrage the egomanical bastard and he will agree there and then.
-
Well this is a kick in the teeth... Don't know whether to be bemused or horrified. We should have walked back and kept him when Bruce left - still maintain that. Oh, well. (sigh)
-
How about dithering for about 3 weeks? I want us to sit on our hands - interview every assistant that we can find - and then talk to them again. I don't care what Malthouse's people say and I certainly don't care what Eddie says. He has little power to stop him. Aedlaide can get Burns, WB can get Cameron, and we can wait to try and convince Malthouse - even as late as mid-October that he can coach Melbourne or he can retire - two choices. You become irrelevant very quickly and as great as MM has been - a year is an eternity in football and there is no guarantee a club will be available. If he wants to go out on his terms - rather than Eddie's - then in the second week of October tell the MFC you will definitely coach them. I want us to dither on this.
-
Ha. Yeah... I don't know him. Loved him as a player as we all did. Loved his arrogance. Has an issue with not thinking through what he is saying but who doesn't? With regard to the Scully stuff - I had no problem with what he said, only the importance that a few had in what he said. With regard to MFC concerns he is harsh at times but why not? He's a Demon though, as we all are.

A 3rd rounder for such an investment? I don't know. I heard that Morton was not happy with the way Bailey played him (when he was playing). I would like to see what a new coach can do with Morton. -

Disappointed, they understand, good luck, go dees in 2012. That is as much as they have said and as much internet space as I will give to what they have said on twitter... -
I don't think he was being dismissive. Horse had bolted on GWS or GC taking kids at that stage. GC decided to at least be slightly competitive in their first few years, GWS don't think it matters. I think they are taking a very NBA Live 2K11 approach to it all - and I think they will regret it, but we will see. As for the OP - welcome to Demonland or welcome back? Definitive styles are used by a few and giving oneself the moniker "Voice of the Common Fan" leads me to a certain conclusion...
-
You're right. Place nice for the next 13 months and then steal a kid from them.
-
I don't give a frack what emotion other fans have... And I for one don't want empty words at an emotional press conference. You want counter punches? Then wait and see what happens with the compensation, whether we can land a player in trade week, and the hiring of a coach in October (hopefully). Substantive action is what this club needs.
-
I think you are glossing over some of the stronger statements that have been made. What do we want from here on in? - Maximum compensation Schwab and Lyon have both said they will be aggressive with the AFL. - Attracting players in trade week Lyon and McLardy both said that was the focus now. I thought we were fine. We could have sounded churlish and appeased a few on here but what's the point? We have to deal with GWS if we want to get in on the mini-draft and we need to be aggressive but respectful with the AFL as we play in it...
-
I thought he would stay - so I thought more of him in that respect. But the "lying all year" question is yet to be resolved or proven either way. It doesn't really matter though does it? He has chased the money and we move on, I am looking forward to trade week and the new coach. I don't really want to utter the two words again. Scully is now back to being an Agent of the FBI for me...
