He would be on more coin than Colin, more years, but you make a point about the b+f. He might be Band 2 - Pick 18.
-
We will get Pick 21 for Colin. How is that not much? And we have a very soft FA right now, you and others should wrap your arms around this model, as other critics of this FA we have want to get rid of the compensation aspect entirely. Other draft, salary cap, and FA regulated leagues don't have any compensation, or if they do, it's minor to the point of irrelevance. Embrace it.

Deyes - I don't pull them out of my arse, the Bands are set an 1, 3, and 5 follow the pick in the first, second, and third rounds of the team that loses the player (Bands 2 an 4 are end of 1st rd and end of 2nd round respectively). We should get Band 3 and Hawthorn Band 1 and our pick will only be a handful of picks behind that Hawthorn pick because that is how the system is designed. Oh, and Hawthorn should threaten to meet the contract and trade him but I understand the desire to not play chicken with Sydney.

I am pretty happy with where we are at as a site in terms of politeness and respect. You struck a nerve on GF day with a great number of posters incl. myself. It's no big deal, we all move on and enjoy the ability to discuss the Demons with other Demons.

We have to sign or trade Frawley prior to end of trade period
rpfc replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Threaten to match it and do a deal. Or not. And I would prefer to keep him aswell, but the point I made was that there are options next summer, there is no need for us to put an ultimatum to him this October. -
DJ - Sydney got him because of their allowance. Otherwise, he would be at GWS where he is sorely needed. I wouldn't put it past The Bloated One to stop it even this late and send him there. FA is without bias, the clubs that have room and a good pitch can get good players. We haven't had a good pitch, but that tone will change with Roos will it not? Moloney was not wanted by the MFC and while we can all hide behind Neeld ruining him, I don't think his departure hurt at all. His lack of leadership, finger pointing, front running, and inability to get to contests wore thin with me as I wrote in his last couple of years. Rivers was playing forward for us in his last year for all those revisionists - we had moved past him. The Sylvia situation was played well by the club. Roos wants to imprint a culture on this place and Colin would be more of a hindrance than a help. Of all his transgressions I know that not all were actually reported. And the club, and FA, should deliver us Pick 22 for Colin so don't just dismiss that chance to suit your argument. Should Frawley leave next year he will net is a top 5 pick or a very good trade. FA rewards smart clubs, oddly enough I think that Port has been the smartest; they got two second round picks for Chaplin and Pearce, traded for FA Monfries, and have already been on the attack with the signing of Matt White. We are worried because we have been a terribly run club, but how about we try and be a well run club instead of worrying about a system that will not leave.
-
No they don't, Young Dee. Now open a window and scream it to the people.
-
As a club we have worried about perception for far too long. If we pick a talent at 2 then great. If those experienced bodies have to wait a year. Then that is fine. If Frawley decides to leave, we will make him rue the decision and move on. I don't care if we don't get respect or things don't go exactly to plan, just develop a backbone and some ruthlessness and make some good decisions.
-
Boo hoo. He has left, and he may bring more in leaving than he would have in his last three years.

If he leaves next year he will get us a top 5 pick, so no need to trade him now on that risk. And we will pay him a wage that will be near to te best 6 at other clubs because we all have to pay at least 95% of the cap. Again, don't be scared of FA. Embrace it because it is here and it doesn't care if you hate it or not. -
If we say that Dew will be hired as Senior Assistant in 2015 and Head Coach in 2017 today, he will be released from his contract with the Swans tomorrow... He'll, maybe they want a trade, a head coach in te NBA was traded for Pick 26 a few months ago...
-
I don't think that Sylvia's wage is going to be at the level of a Thomas (certainly not Franklin) and that plays a part in determining the bands. With hat said, he will be on a wage similar to Chaplin at Richmond and he got Port Band 3 comp. Things that flow from this; There will be no trade with Freo. They have no leaving FA from what I can see that would warrant a trade with us. Which means... We will wait and get a pick at the end of FA with a week of trade week to go. Mahoney will sweat on the compensation decision as he will make assumptions to all and sundry about what we have to play with in that last week. Probably Pick 21ish. We will not sign anyone in FA. This doesn't mean we won't target them but we will get them in a trade or DFA or the PSD. Pick 2 will be spent on an experienced mid. The desire to get that player just went up I sure. Our ability to do that trade also went up... Time will tell what this meant to the future of our club. The medium term could see us benefit from Colin's decision.
-
Didn't one of the best players from the Premiers leave in FA? It is only a disaster if you don't work out how to use it to your advantage. I will let you whinge for a couple years, but at some point you are going to have to build that bridge because it is here to stay.
-
If Coll wants to keep pick 11 for Thomas then we could do something if they wanted Sylvia. But the sweetener may be ours as they would lose more should we not agree. Getting Shaw for effectively pick 21 is overs. The same pick got us Dawes and he will be of more, and better service than Shaw. Long ways to go before this is something to stress over however.
-
It's inevitable in sports, and we have a soft one with compensation, and that comp is tailored to the lower clubs when they lose players. Tinkering can be made and should be done, but FA is here to stay and it will not destroy those not already heading for destruction. There is no evil here.
-
I don't think too much weighting is given to past contracts. Only the new one. And Jara - FA is new, and it will hurt some teams that have talent. Nobody is immune and St Kilda, Hawthorn, and Collingwood are finding that out. Dawes was a trade, he was not an FA. If a team does not want to come off second best in this environment then treat your players well, and try to make good decisions on players to bring in. You have at least 8 years before they can just '[censored] off' and it will not just mean that the best teams pick the bones of the worst teams. It won't. It's not the end of the world.
-
The formula is the AFLs and they don't just give it away. But weight is given to B+F results, the size of the new contract, and a couple of other less meaningful criteria. I say Franklin is Band 1 because he is a star and on huge dollars, I say Sylvia is Band 3 because Chaplin and Pearce got that for Port, and neither of them is as good as Sylvia. So the compensation is weighted to the worse teams as B1, B3, and B5 follow the clubs pick in the first three rounds. Franklin for pick 17. Sylvia for Pick 21. Watch it happen if they both leave.
-
That is mooted somewhat by the fact that you like to spam am entire board of threads when you are bored with content simply stating that you are bored.
-
The Hood and others - you either need to do proper research or simply look for my posts; the Bands for compensation are; 1 - the pick after the clubs first round pick. 2 - an end of first round pick 3 - the pick after the clubs second round pick 4 - an end of second round pick 5 - the pick after the clubs third round pick Therefore, Franklin will net Hawthorn pick 17 for Band 1 and the MFC for Sylvia pick 21 for Band 3 (IMO). That's if both clubs don't do anything else in FA. Which is seperate to DFA, but don't get me started on that.
-
Rumours please. Everything else stop.
-
= getting no-one to the MFC
-
Shaw and 10 for 2... It's not good, it is the kind of thing that we will be told over and over again is fair though. If Shaw gets 4 years it will be his last contract. It's not how you build a list. And that is why I don't think it is on the cards. I can see Roos giving up 2 for a couple of fringe mids who are young. Shaw is neither.
-
The formula to decide what 'Band' a player is considered is secret, known only to the AFL executive and the Commission. With that said, and what I have said often - Pearce and Chaplin each got Band 3 compensation for Port. I expect that.
-
Crows fan?
-
I would get him. I would hope that they delist him to make it easier for him to go where he wants, but if not a minor trade will get it done. Same with Cross. The hard part is getting them to want to come, the easy part is bringing them here without affecting any comp or Sylvia.
