  1. I could come back at you with where did you get those numbers from? Salary, b+f, games played play a factor. I say Band 3 because Chaplin and Pearce were Band 3 and I really do not think they would be on the kind of coin that would seperate them from Colin.
  2. I was being facetious about the Evil Nexus... My point is that just because someone has ties to the club, does not mean that they are not capable and/or not desired at the club.
  3. 2 and 21 for Shuey and 8? I hate when I spitball. Gets my hopes up...
  4. Really? ... Band 1 is the pick behind a teams 1st round pick. Band 2 is an end of 1st round pick. Band 3 is the pick behind a teams 2nd round pick. Band 4 is an end of 2nd round pick. Band 5 is the pick behind a teams 3rd round pick. Do you get it now? Because the brick wall to my left is saying 'rp, we get it, we get it. Enough already'...
  5. We can only get 'second rate' players because we have been a terrible club for 7 years. Wheel will turn and with it will FA. It isn't biased. If you have the money and the pitch - you can get the player.
  6. It would have been without COLA. If the AFL got rid of he allowance, Buddy would be in orange and charcoal like they have been dreaming about.
  7. Do you have me on ignore or something? The bands are set. The die is cast. Band 3 is pick 22 for us. Band 4 will be around 37. Band 5 around 41.
  8. If you knew who was actually in the Old Boys Club you would not be so smug.Viney fell out with the oh-so-evil Lyon-Stynes-CC-Schwab Nexus and left the club for Hawthorn as a heralded Assistant Coach (if there can be such a thing), and then poached back to Adelaide before we got him back to run the Development and Player Strategy a couple years back. At some point we are going to have to stop culling and start building and while there may be a hatred of everything related to the MFC at this club it doesn't mean you get to just lump Viney in there without more evidence than vague illusions of his various roles.
  9. There will be 17 first round picks (I believe GWS has a mid round pick, and Ess and Ade are out of course). Thomas and Franklin will be Band 1 if no trade is done - Pick 12 and 19 respectively. Pick 20+ is where Band 2 picks are placed. There might not be any... So GWS Pick 20, MFC Pick 21, MFC Band 3 Compensation Pick 22, et al. That is how it works and I expect it to happen.
  10. DA and WJ - the reason why we got shafted last year is because we tried to 'up' our net loss last year as the AFL said that you will get a pick of the net players lost with the net value lost - so we thought we were turning two third round picks into one 2nd round pick by getting Byrnes. And I know Moloney was a decent player but we dropped him in the latter part of the season, and he isn't on much coin in Brisbane and that gets taken into account of course. The AFL effectively ruled we didn't want him... We played the colin situation much better, played the entire year and we actually tried to keep him unlike when Neeld said goodbye to Moloney as FA opened.
  11. Yes. But we can trade for them or get DFA players.
  12. NFL has a hard cap. The AFL have tried to emulate what the most even football league in the world does. For example - 32 FA picks where handed to 16 teams last time around. Highest was a third rounder. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0ap1000000151670/article/nfl-awards-32-compensatory-draft-picks-to-16-teams The highest they give is a third round pick. And they give as many picks as net loss of players just like ours, and it is based on salary (and playing time and honours in finals). We have a very suitable, soft FA that people should try to maintain. Otherwise they might find it lose the compensation aspect and become even more unpalatable.
  13. All they have to do if they want Dew is to name him and say he will take over at the end of his Swans contract, he will be released from said contract the next day.
  14. He would be on more coin than Colin, more years, but you make a point about the b+f. He might be Band 2 - Pick 18.
  15. We will get Pick 21 for Colin. How is that not much? And we have a very soft FA right now, you and others should wrap your arms around this model, as other critics of this FA we have want to get rid of the compensation aspect entirely. Other draft, salary cap, and FA regulated leagues don't have any compensation, or if they do, it's minor to the point of irrelevance. Embrace it.
  16. Deyes - I don't pull them out of my arse, the Bands are set an 1, 3, and 5 follow the pick in the first, second, and third rounds of the team that loses the player (Bands 2 an 4 are end of 1st rd and end of 2nd round respectively). We should get Band 3 and Hawthorn Band 1 and our pick will only be a handful of picks behind that Hawthorn pick because that is how the system is designed. Oh, and Hawthorn should threaten to meet the contract and trade him but I understand the desire to not play chicken with Sydney.
  17. I am pretty happy with where we are at as a site in terms of politeness and respect. You struck a nerve on GF day with a great number of posters incl. myself. It's no big deal, we all move on and enjoy the ability to discuss the Demons with other Demons.
  18. Threaten to match it and do a deal. Or not. And I would prefer to keep him aswell, but the point I made was that there are options next summer, there is no need for us to put an ultimatum to him this October.
  19. DJ - Sydney got him because of their allowance. Otherwise, he would be at GWS where he is sorely needed. I wouldn't put it past The Bloated One to stop it even this late and send him there. FA is without bias, the clubs that have room and a good pitch can get good players. We haven't had a good pitch, but that tone will change with Roos will it not? Moloney was not wanted by the MFC and while we can all hide behind Neeld ruining him, I don't think his departure hurt at all. His lack of leadership, finger pointing, front running, and inability to get to contests wore thin with me as I wrote in his last couple of years. Rivers was playing forward for us in his last year for all those revisionists - we had moved past him. The Sylvia situation was played well by the club. Roos wants to imprint a culture on this place and Colin would be more of a hindrance than a help. Of all his transgressions I know that not all were actually reported. And the club, and FA, should deliver us Pick 22 for Colin so don't just dismiss that chance to suit your argument. Should Frawley leave next year he will net is a top 5 pick or a very good trade. FA rewards smart clubs, oddly enough I think that Port has been the smartest; they got two second round picks for Chaplin and Pearce, traded for FA Monfries, and have already been on the attack with the signing of Matt White. We are worried because we have been a terribly run club, but how about we try and be a well run club instead of worrying about a system that will not leave.
  20. No they don't, Young Dee. Now open a window and scream it to the people.
  21. As a club we have worried about perception for far too long. If we pick a talent at 2 then great. If those experienced bodies have to wait a year. Then that is fine. If Frawley decides to leave, we will make him rue the decision and move on. I don't care if we don't get respect or things don't go exactly to plan, just develop a backbone and some ruthlessness and make some good decisions.
  22. Boo hoo. He has left, and he may bring more in leaving than he would have in his last three years.
  23. If he leaves next year he will get us a top 5 pick, so no need to trade him now on that risk. And we will pay him a wage that will be near to te best 6 at other clubs because we all have to pay at least 95% of the cap. Again, don't be scared of FA. Embrace it because it is here and it doesn't care if you hate it or not.
  24. If we say that Dew will be hired as Senior Assistant in 2015 and Head Coach in 2017 today, he will be released from his contract with the Swans tomorrow... He'll, maybe they want a trade, a head coach in te NBA was traded for Pick 26 a few months ago...
  25. I don't think that Sylvia's wage is going to be at the level of a Thomas (certainly not Franklin) and that plays a part in determining the bands. With hat said, he will be on a wage similar to Chaplin at Richmond and he got Port Band 3 comp. Things that flow from this; There will be no trade with Freo. They have no leaving FA from what I can see that would warrant a trade with us. Which means... We will wait and get a pick at the end of FA with a week of trade week to go. Mahoney will sweat on the compensation decision as he will make assumptions to all and sundry about what we have to play with in that last week. Probably Pick 21ish. We will not sign anyone in FA. This doesn't mean we won't target them but we will get them in a trade or DFA or the PSD. Pick 2 will be spent on an experienced mid. The desire to get that player just went up I sure. Our ability to do that trade also went up... Time will tell what this meant to the future of our club. The medium term could see us benefit from Colin's decision.
