  1. I'm all for the tactic - we are doing an abridged version - where we get in known commodities over the speculative players in late picks - having said that - it can turn badly quickly when you don't replenish your list with young players and, yes, I am aware that 'big clubs are taking all the players!1!' but are they? And who did the big clubs get this week. Are they the club changing A graders? Dangerfield is. But no-one else is.
  2. So a Bird in the hand is worth the two players we have got? Seriously, though, not getting Craig Bird is the deemotivator? Really? If you are looking for C grade HBFs - Jake Melksham is already there.
  3. You can be aggressive as you want - but if you cannot convince players of note to come - they will not come. Which player that changed clubs should we have acquired and why? Where should we have focussed our aggression?
  4. He was sub 12 times in 25 games... If you look at Time On Ground % - Toumpas averaged 72% compared to Kennedy's 59% in 2015. Kennedy hasn't averaged more than 59% TOG in his three years. In his 3 full games last year he had 15, 12, and 15 touches. Not prolific but they would play different roles these two - similar but different.
  5. There are endless picks. If we trade away all our picks - there will be more - enough to fill our list - that's why clubs have multiple 'passes' at the end. GWS had about 6 'passes' a couple years ago.
  6. Hopefully that is the last absolute balls up with high picks...
  7. We have Hogan and McDonald. Why reach for talls?
  8. Yeah, you always do that for good players... I have no doubt that we saw his value to GC as a boon - but we really didn't see him as a player to keep and that is how Collingwood got him at market value... This isn't the disaster you are spruiking that it is...
  9. Well, if you are going to get paid a similar amount, you may as well play for a club that wants you...
  10. He has missed 34 games in three seasons mainly through injury and at 20 in 2014 was very impressive on a HFF. I thought he performed his role consistently for a young player dealing with injuries. Kent is effective because he makes things happen and makes his touches count. I don't see Kennedy as that type of player - hence why he is at the club.
  11. Yes, I hope both Toumpas and Kennedy pull something out of the fire.
  12. Wasn't close to getting dropped? We just moved him out of the club?! You do realise that we did not want to keep him, yeah? We never really tried to keep him. If your not in the 44 it's going to be difficult to be in the 22... Note: Do people realise that we never really wanted him? Just a question - I thought we as a fandom were aware that clubs lowball players and offer them contracts they couldn't possibly sign, and value them so low, they couldn't possibly stay.
  13. The AFL has made the points system based on salary which is a better measure of quality in my opinion than games played. But the use of that system in all trades is fraught and I wouldn't recommend fans doing it to judge what a player is worth, or how their club views a player.
  14. What if Toumpas was playing for us in 2016? What is the difference? Both from the same draft... both haven't done much... is it because one was taken at ND4 and the other at ND19? Coz you know that means nothing, right?
  15. Toumpas was about player number 34 and Howe was pushing himself out of the 22. Melksham has removed him from the backline, and forward - Howe is a liability because he plays from behind and doesn't work defensively. We haven't improved the list much, but we have improved it.
  16. I would have been disappointed to trade him just to trade him but we targeted a kid from the same draft year to play a similar role but who has better characteristics from a footy standpoint, in Ben Kennedy. I look at it like Kennedy slightly improves the list at the expense of Toumpas and Melksham does the same (and a bit more) with Howe. Let's see what we can do with ND6, 29, 46, 50, and 64.
  17. You do realise that we didn't have ND32? That was Adelaide's pick. We gave up only Howe and Toumpas.
  18. I honestly don't care if all we are left with is ND3 - it will tell me that the club wants to bring in known commodities and superb talent and that's it - no more projects. I. Love. That. Idea.
