POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
If Goodwin and Co were supremely confident we’d go 5-1 to finish the season (despite a loss last night) and hence a certainty to finish top 2, then the answer to your question is no.

CHANGES: Rd 18 vs Port Adelaide
Laurie currently 22 and 2 gls. A chance to replace one of our small forwards?

CHANGES: Rd 18 vs Port Adelaide
Hard to believe this break into the Port game is the same length as our mid season break. In - Weid, Rivers, Dunstan Out - Bedford , Bowey, Oliver, Hunt (sub) Haven’t totally written off Clarry due to the long break.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
And at the same time potentially costing ourselves a top 2 spot and thus the most efficient route to the Gf? If it was round 23 and we had our exact finals spot confirmed then sure, show them nothing tactically, but it was essentially an 8 point game last night. I would’ve thought we were playing for sheep stations and all chips were in from a tactical point of view.

2022 Injury List
Round 18 2016 Vs Gold Coast. MCG. The early Sunday game. We won by 2 points with Tom Lynch failing to make the distance after the siren to snatch the win. Vanders had a big 3rd with 3 goals. He’s been so durable. Goodwin won’t know what to do with himself without Oliver in his lineup.

2022 Injury List
If Mark Thompson was still coaching Geelong he’d be blaming Oliver’s thumb for trying to break Selwood’s foot. Hopefully it’s just the one week and we can adequately cover him for the Port game. A shame he has to break his 130 game streak due to a reasonably careless kick from Selwood.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Is he going to do a Tim Kelly? ”I’m desperately homesick, all my family and support network are in WA. I can only see myself playing in WA” ”Oh and by the way, I am only willing to play for West Coast”

Viney’s heading towards an extremely high finish in the Bluey.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
We will make finals because we only need one more to qualify (13 wins) And that win should come next week vs Port. However to beat one of Freo, Collingwood, Carlton, Or Brisbane we’re going to need to step up our game in all sorts of areas.

6) Viney 5) Petracca 4) Brayshaw 3) Oliver 2) Lever 1) Hibberd Special dishonorable mention to Max and the $1.5 million man who took 1 mark between them while their much less heralded counterpart ruck combination in Stanley and Blicvas managed 5.

FYI - Nick Dal Santo gave Viney 2 votes on SEN postgame. (3-2-1 system)

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Even in 2020 when we avoided them in Geelong, we were actually originally scheduled down there for a late season Saturday twilight game until they had to rip up the original fixture. We clearly have to play them down there every year to pick up the slack as they simply won’t fixture Hawthorn, Collingwood or Richmond down there. Either spread the load or play 11 home games down there.

Farewell Luke Jackson
He wouldn’t cope well in the MLB. On Monday you could be playing for the Boston Red Sox. By Tuesday you could be traded and uprooted to the San Diego Padres (the furthest thing from Boston) and then suiting up for the Padres by Thursday.

Farewell Luke Jackson
The big question now is what will be the level of booing and angst that young Luke will receive at the G next year when Freo come to town: Peter Walsh 0/10 “happy that he found a new club” level Sam Frost 5/10 “we’re ok that you found a new home but you’re entitled to an obligatory boo” level Jeremy Howe/James Frawley - 7.5/10 “you traitor” level Tom Scully - 11/10

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Geelong
Sitting in the MFC area in the HFF on the outer side, the missed tackles by us were extremely noticeable that resulted in Geelong scores. This has been a recurring theme in our losses this year and either demonstrate a lack of hunger or lack of fitness. This just didn’t happen nearly as much last year. Geelong were just too good for us and wouldn’t let us breath all night, aside from a few 5 minute cameos of “Melbourne” football. A few MFC supporter are gettIng ahead themselves if they merely think we can rock up to the G against them in finals and get an easy win. Disappointing result, we’ve lost more games this time than last year and we’re making a top 2 finish hard on ourselves. Really hoping that magnificent Brisbane effort will be the norm in the coming weeks rather than a once in 6 week event.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Geelong
That's probably a net profit for Geelong. De Koning and Stengle have been influential additions to their side. Henderson was on his last legs and Ratagalea has minimal influence in most games. JK and O'Connor are useful soldiers to their side so net each other out.

Farewell Luke Jackson
The hype around Jackson – burnished by excessive praise for his grand final ruck work in the third quarter – is a further sign of a footy culture in which players are often paid or purchased on perceived potential rather than proven performance; Jake Niall - July 6, 2022

What They Are Saying at Moorabool Street
For 2020 we were actually fixtured to play Geelong in Geelong in a late season Saturday twilight game but the fixture obviously got torn up when COVID hit. We eventually played them at the G in front of nobody. So we've actually been fixtured at Kardinia Park 19/23 times since 2000 if you count the original 2020 fixture. For some reason in 2001 we got to play Geelong twice at the MCG, and won them both.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET
The round 4 win was a ripper IMO. Kind of signalled that we meant business for 2021.

NOT Taylor Walker
He also gave away a free kick to Tim English despite SWYL’s claims that he denied the Dogs the ball in the centre.
-
NOT Taylor Walker
LJ had a direct hand in one of our 7 goals by way of a beautiful clearance to Oliver. Every other goal was manufactured by others. Gus, Oliver, Fritta, Viney and Trac were epic in that quarter and it does my head in when people claim that we wouldn’t have won the GF without Jackson. It does a total disservice to his teammates.

NOT Taylor Walker
No he didn’t.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Geelong
BBB and Hibberd spent portions of the game on the bench with injury issues which was mentioned on the broadcast. Given it's a 5 day break, you'd suspect at least one of those three mentioned might run out of time to get up for Thursday night.

Petty up forward?
I love our defence and I love Petty in defence. So I wouldn't move him. We just have to hope that our outstanding defence and outstanding midfield is enough (to win a flag) to offset our average forward line. We've averaged 106 points in the last fortnight so things aren't that dire up forward.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Adelaide
Despite the mid season hiccup, you could argue we're tracking even better than this time last year. Last year we were second but on equal wins with the leading Dogs at 12-3. This year we are clear top albeit with the same win/loss. Our percentage was 12 points lower last year compared to this year. This year we are 2 games and a truck load of percentage clear of 5th. Last year we were a game and a tiny bit of percentage clear of 5th.
